I've gone down the rabbit hole recently with loaded stretching. It's something I've done in the past as a way to end a workout but never the way I describe in this video.
Based on all the recent studies the best way to implement this is by doing it right after your last eccentric rep, there can't be any rest in between. Also, it works best for muscles that are type 1 dominant which is great because most people including myself have horrible calves so another way to target the coveted soleus is a dream come true. Finally, the amount of time you should stretch is roughly 20-30 seconds which doesn't sound like a lot but it is...

John Meadows preached this for a looooong time. He always liked to end his workouts with an exercise that did exactly that. Each set would make sense as well but obviously that man had tons of results on himself and those he trained with this very same approach. Very nice, going to give it a try.

Since you asked... I don't watch this channel for the science (and I love science, even majored in biology). I watch this channel for two reasons... 1. The insight you give around training is refreshing and produces results. Enhance why I've invested in all of your programs. 2. I love your sense of humor! This video was hilarious 🤣 Just my two cents.

At this point i really watch your videos just for the entertainment and art you put into these short films. The effort you put in is paying out! To be honest: i dont give to much on most of these researches as their groupes are often tiny and circumstances are not to clear and so on. But in the end of the day: everyone need to pick what works for him.

I see a lot of comments mentioning a lot of old-school bodybuilders were doing this. You are all right, they did what they called fascia stretching which is an active stretch right after a set. The bro-science was meant to be that the pump is so juicy that the fascia, the membrane surrounding the muscle, expands and allows for uninhibited growth. It seems like they stumbled into this information while chasing the pump. I've actually been doing this for arms and shoulders simply because it's so convenient to do (and the pump is insane indeed).

@@elifarmer2935 I have pretty small calves genetics wise but I've also injured my ankles and knees so many times in other sports that they have been a definate weak spot. I started working on my calves pretty much every other day a couple of years ago so it isn't exactly a fast process but there are 2 things that have especially worked for me. One is these holds at the end of a really heavy set on seated calf raises. (1-3 sets with the hold, 3-4 sets in total) The other is a maniacal set I've loved for my calves that I just sort of came up with inspired by Tom Platz and Ryan. I go on a leg press, do calf raises there with my legs straight BUT: 1st set really heavy, like 3-6 reps until failure. A 5 second pause. Hit it again for as many reps as I can. Drop the weight to around 60% of that and after 5 seconds do that weight until failure. A 5 second pause and again. Then drop the weight to about half of that weight and after 5 seconds I do reps until failure. Then 5 seconds and one more set with that weight. That is one set. I do 2-3 of those sets. Those really light my calves on fire and work for me, I don't know if they'll work on you. 💪🏻

I’ve always done this. Yoga, calisthenics or weight training. If your looking for tension in time why would you only want force collecting in your muscle while it’s short? 21’s are great for this concept. 7 reps with focus on eccentric contractions, 7 reps with focus on concentric, and the last 7 for the metabolic. (Or whatever order you want to do them in). Doing this really makes you put your ego aside. It’ll kick your ass.

one of the added benefits is if you know you're going to have to contend w/ a final effort at the end of your set, you're less likely to use the last of your fuel to finish with one of those dirty reps that always hurt more than help.
