In case anyone is worried about her business, there is a happy ending. From a podcast in November 2020 she says: "I went on [Shark Tank] and sales went through the roof." "[Since the episode...] Now, we are 300 times bigger than we were. Now, we've got a freeze-dryer. We are at capacity, at full capacity. The next freeze-dryer arrives at the end of this month, so that's another million dollars for a freeze-dryer..." Was worried about her so had to know since she seems said everything was on the line. She seems so sweet and genuinely passionate. Was anyone else worried for her?

Sarah Anderson it may appear that way but the American Shark Tank has a big issue where a lot of the companies that make a deal on the show don’t actually end up getting a real deal once they get to the board room to write up the contract. I think the Australian sharks simply don’t have quite as much money while still being incredibly wealthy so they are more careful with their investments.
@Logicsupersedes
@Logicsupersedes 4 жыл бұрын
@@108willl That's the truth. Not many of the deals actually end up going through. The difference between the 'shark tanks' and 'dragons den' is that the tanks are clearly geared more towards pure entertainment. A lot of jovial music, sob stories etc That kind of stuff doesn't happen in dragons den. There is no "nice" dragon there. There's characters on both of the tanks.

I agree. She needs to scale it so she can produce more to lower the cost. The Hills Vet Science Diet is that price for about 3 kgs I think from Memory. My cats love it. My mother who has money buys it for them, there is no way I could afford it, but if I could I would. They love it. They aren't fussy eaters but they go ape over it. I mix it with other brands to last longer, as they'd eat a packet in one day. Ihave a continuous feeder for their dry food, and if there isn't enough of the vet science in the bowl, they stick their paws up to pull out more.

Im not sure what planet you come from but you would be mad if you think you can compare population of Australia 25 million to USA of 350 million. They dont invest because the market is to small and manufacturing of goods at 100% capacity would be able to supply and sell maybe 50 million dog owners per week and this will not work in Australia. Also its to expensive and it would add to $150 per week extra just to feed a dog.

@@coolercool3074 I did not refute the fact that Australia is a much smaller market. Simply the part that the Australian Sharks get put off as soon as they hear someone ask for reasonably big bucks. They simply do not have the depth in their pockets or the risk appetite. Andrew is the only Shark to pull off a $2.5M coffee deal as a very rare exception, while their average investments are in the $50-200k range.
@josephmother2659

Well it’s ultimately a question of percentages. If someone had a 40 million net worth, their investable assets are somewhere below that number. If someone pitches a chance to invest 400,000, it’s like a person with a net worth of 100 dollars spending a dollar, on the off chance it becomes 3-5 dollars in a few years. The vast majority of people will try to spend less on investments to ensure lower risk. With the rate of successful startups as it is, it’s hard to pull the trigger on giving someone more than most people make in a year without concrete proof of sales and a clear roadmap to profit.

This was an easy deal for glen. Vertical integration, can sell out the her entire production capacity. Could have trial ran it in just a few stores to ensure the product is good. The ask was for 608k of which 500m was for equipment with multiple uses commercial uses, likely great liquation value if needed. Just lease the equipment back to her then put up the remaining 108m for 30% equity. Valuation works and debt is secured. Also Glen probably has access to cheap credit. Easy deal.

He is right, though. The MAJORITY of people won't pay that much for thier pets food. Some will laugh and buy cheap garbage for thier dogs, and others will say "I can start doing that myself". The rest are obviously wealthy, and can afford this overpriced dog food. I make my Dobermans food, cuz I want better for him, and I am cheap. 😂

Seems like ok product, except freeze drying is extremely expensive, you just can't bring the costs down. It will be much cheaper to just buy actual raw food. Not to mention it's pretty much just as easy, it only takes a bit of space in fridge.

@@pauladam9473 Nope, those two numbers referred to similar, but different things. One kg of finished freeze-dried product would turn into 4 kg of ready to eat pet food. Three thousand kilograms of RAW PRODUCT could be turned into 1000 kilograms of finished freeze-dried product. It is perfectly possible, even likely that the raw product is lighter because it contains less water and is denser than the finished ready to eat version is supposed to be. After all, she doesn't intend whatever to-be-freeze-dried substrate she calls raw product to be eaten, so quite possibly it is already partially dehydrated or condensed beyond what is best for canine tummies to make freeze-drying process more efficient (because there is less water to remove) or maybe even lower cost of transportation itself (she outsources freeze-drying as of this pitch so she obviously needs to pay transport fees and 3 tons are cheaper to haul than 4). So no, math very much adds up.

Wow it’s baffling to me how wrong Steve was in this one. He let his personal emotions about the trend get in the way of his investors brain. AND he was wrong to come at her saying the market is 2.4 million since she then had to repeat that that was only for her business. Anybody who knows anything about business knows that obviously a single business will never take 100% of the market
