The defendant says he runs a catering business and had a permit issue with the city and had to cancel. He found another venue that night, and even paid for food and a DJ and she still wants a refund?

And the judge normally criticizes those that don't do what he did, yet she acted as this defendant didn't do anything. He didn't do anything wrong is all he didn't do!

I learned this lesson if you can't do it, give the money back don't offer an alternative unless the client ask. Less options less headaches.

The plaintiff is lying. Nobody has a Birthday Party and don't take any pictures. Even if she didn't take pictures herself. I'm positive, her guest would've taken pictures of the venue.

I think she wanted a refund because all of her guests didn't show up like she thought they would, and there's no guarantee that they would have shown up if the party was still at the original venue

Definitely agree! A nice guy and very reasonable. I really don’t understand/like people sometimes…too much emphasis on minor shit. Just enjoy your damn birthday. People put too much weight on the day of birth and most people aren’t worth a damn to begin with. 🙄🫤

Yeah, the people in her photos looked like they were having a great time. She brought ridiculous phony emails, and said the pictures of the venue her entire case was about were "on her old phone". Yeah, right. He brought the furniture, the food, the DJ, everything...and paid 2 employees to direct guests to the new venue until midnight. If you catch someone in a lie, that means they're a liar. Liars lie. What else are they lying about? How can you believe anything they say after that? She was caught in two lies. In court. I wouldn't have given her anything.

That right there is something that should have been investigated more, at one point he tried to say that he had two guys directing guests till midnight, so if you were 75 guests, surely not 45 of them are going to say right at the first venue "No, that sounds awful, Im not going". I bet its closer to the truth to say not many more than 30 actually showed to the first venue to be redirected in the first place.

3:00~ I wouldn’t necessarily believe he is as customer-oriented as he makes it sound-or that he was being truthful with the city, his clients, etc. Some of those guys would build those warehouse-looking “shells” with interiors that can easily be configured for various “gray zone” events, disregarding the zoning restrictions. For one, if what he said were entirely true, then the bank would not have financed it b/c they’d definitely have checked the zoning. I have a feeling he is the kind of dude that would say anything to get out of sticky situations.

@@nondescriptnyc that isn’t always true. Cities can make mistakes. We just bought a property with 2 dwellings, our realtor and mortgage company confirmed with the city that both dwellings were legal. Then after we buy the property, zoning shows up and tells us the secondary dwelling isn’t legal anymore and the mess up is because it once was. The city messed up and gave inaccurate information to our realtor AND mortgage company and we bought the property on those promises and now we have to jump through hoops to try to get it legalized again because the secondary dwelling IS THE reason we decided on this property. Something similar could have happened to him. 🤷🏻♀️

He lost probably over the $800 just moving the people, furniture, and hiring people to stand out at the other place, so he tried his best to make her happy. NO ONE WILL MAKE her happy, she is what we call entitled. She was never going to be happy and he was THE nicest person ever. He was out to make her happy. What a chump she was.

I would definitely book at his spot if I lived out there. Most ppl wouldn’t have done all that. There was a similar case where the venue owner was basically like just deal with it, can’t have your party. 🤷🏽♀️ she should have taken the deal.

She really didn’t deserve the $200. If she decided to accept the new party instead of the refund that was her problem. The fact that everyone didn’t show up was on her. If the new venue was only a few miles away those that didn’t come was never planning on coming.

I figured out why she's mad. She wanted three separate VIP sections so she'd never know how many people don't like her. The new venue was one private room so she got to see EXACTLY how many people who don't like her.

immediately knew she was full of it when she conveniently no longer had her original phone, she saw a way to potentially get over on him and get a free party then went for it...shame, he was extremely accommodating and professional. Based on her behavior, and having her mom call; the 30th birthday party could easily be mistaken for 16th

She didn't deserve a dime. She lied about the venue, she just wasn't happy. No pictures and that fake email were enough for the judge to have awarded her zero. He went above and beyond. I really wanted to reach in the screen and hug him he seemed so damn genuine, caring and kind.

Less than 30 people showed up and half of those were probably Family if not more than half. She doesn’t want another party because she knows this.

I don't trust the plaintiff at all, her claim is so sketchy based on what she's presenting. Your venue was so bad that your guests were leaving, yet the only pictures you have are group shots/selfies of you and your friends seemingly having a good time? A person with any common sense would've been taking pictures (and even video) of every inch of that venue to show off how terribly bad it supposedly was.

Dude OFFERED TO GIVE HER A REFUND BEFORE THE PARTY!! She was the one who decided to go ahead with it after the venue changed & after he offered a full refund plus catering a future event. She has no rights now after still having the party.

That email was seriously proof she was scamming. Firstly, what 31 year old communicates through email? You got text messaging and Facebook messenger. Secondly, who writes to their friend "Thanks for inviting me, would've stayed longer but-" and then gives a rant about how rundown the venue was?

To be fair, he didn't renege on that. He offered her her money back and to just do the party at a later date (with the expenses covered) OR to change the venue and call it a wash. She chose the latter and now wants more. I'm sure he would've worked with her on a compromise if she had asked. But she jumped the gun and just said yes, and now she regrets it.

The Judge completely had to back track when she asked the plaintiff if she throws herself birthday parties every year because that accidentally slipped out. Who throws themselves their own birthday party?! Your family and friends love you so much that none of them would even think to throw you a birthday party 🤣 😂

From what I can tell, the VIP section is isolated from the party. So even if that was set up, they wouldn't be able to see it.
