To paraphrase Rihanna sometimes comedians have to '"find laughter in a hopeless place". Comedians Steve Gribbin and Paul Ricketts list their 5 favourite and 5 most hated venue spaces to perform comedy. Feel free to disagree with our choices below.
We conclude the best are:
1. Purpose Built Comedy Venues
2. Theatre - Stage
3. Theatre/Arts Centre - Studio Space
4. Pub - upstairs/cellar room
5. Village Hall
The worst:
1. Corner of a pub - near the toilets!
2. Restaurants
3. Hotel Function Rooms - with Sprung Dance Floors
4. Night Clubs
5. Golf Clubs

My worst experience was a crowded pub on a Friday night with matches on TV screens, people playing pool and most people not there for comedy. This also had no MC and the promoter announced each act by name and had a microphone where you couldn't hear yourself. The crowd was chatting loudly and each act was asked to do 20 minutes despite never having done that long ever before.
