Hello Kimmy I know I don't understand it. I will be happy if someone in my family graudated..that means they will have jobs so less people to rely on you and more people to share responsibilities especially to those family members who doesnt do anything but come to ask you money or help them out as if you are obligated to take care of them because you have job. I was born in Africa, I have Family in africa I know what I'm talking about

Eddies story is almost similar to mine. My uncles wife was talking to me a couple weeks ago when I came home for Spring Break & she asked me what was I going to school for & what I wanted to do after I graduated next month & what not. Mind you, I started at a 2yr college & then transferred to a university. So, my uncle chimes in & says "That boy been going to college for the last 5 or 6 years, going to 4 to 5 colleges, & still haven't graduated. He not going anywhere but right where he at, sitting here at home". I looked at him & I said, first of all, there's this thing you do called taking campus tours to get a feel & an idea of where you want to go for college, had you even attempted to go then you would know that, out of the 4 colleges I looked at, I'm at the ONE...I decided to go to. Secondly, I decided to start at a community college so that I wouldn't drown myself in 4yrs of student debt. Had you even bothered to look into college, you would know it's a more logical path to take. Thirdly, I graduate May 13th of THIS YEAR. I guess you didn't get my graduation invitation in the mail, did you? Now tell me, what college have you ever visited? What college have you ever applied to? What college have you ever attended? Do I intimidate you because I'm the only male in the family to actually go to college & for that reason you talk down to me because it infuriates you that I'm actually going to have a CAREER & have a house in MY name & do better than you THOUGHT I would? How about you worry about your own children lives & what they do. I have mine in check. He just shakes his head & walk off. His wife tells me "...we got the invitation...we'll see you there, trust me". I don't even need to ask if he tried it cause not only did he try it, he DID it, but I got that ass right back.

I too started at a community college and transferred…It took me 8 years total but I finished Magna Cum Laude with a 3.82…It does not matter how long it took you to finish….the important thing is that YOU DID NOT GIVE UP AND YOU FINISHED….

Jay Alford congratulations on your success however coming at your uncle that way perhaps didn't help matters you must realize or you will realize that each generation does a little better than the previous one and yes he might have been jealous that you went to college and succeed it but sometimes being using the approach of loving-kindness and ignoring certain people is the best way all the best in your endeavors and overlooking stay away from that Uncle if you can't come to a meeting of the mind.

I was the first one in my family to graduate and my family was extremely proud at my ceremony, but when I talk about it now, (3 years later) their true feelings come out. I get told I'm stuck up and "think I'm better" because I'm proud of myself. This family is trying it for real. 😒
