Please be extra careful I almost died a month ago from something new. I do tree service a lot and I was felling a living 60 ft Australian pine. It went the right way but part of the top split and fell on me causing a brain injury vertebrae fractured and a broken right leg. I'm very thankful for being alive. I'm 34. I encourage you to continue prioritizing safety. May God protect you always.

I had an old-timer (even older than me if you can believe it) tell me to go far along the escape route even if you don't think you'll need it. I'm terrible at remembering this half the time though if everything appears to be going well. Do you think this may have helped? I honestly don't know because I wasn't there. On the other hand, you can do everything "correctly" in tree work and still die. I'm just glad that in your situation, it was injury and not death and I hope you have a quick full recovery. If you have any further information about your incident or what you think could've helped in hindsight, I'd welcome it as I'm always looking for more ways to be safe. Thank you for being willing to mention it, as we can always learn from what our colleagues have to say.

Many years ago, and old timer in Arkansas told me that most bar lube issues can be fixed by tightening the nuts around the casing and I find it works

Hey jake! I’m sure you already know this, but your bars oiling hole might be aligned wrong, or clogged with sawdust. I had to drill a new hole on one of my bars because of this, fixed the issue immediately.

I know another tree worker here in Australia. Same issue plus the font case broke out where the bolt for the dog goes! Super thin casting compared to the sthils.

@@backwoodslogging8443 I've got a 572XP down here in Australia as well that had the same issue but my oiler adjustment screw ended up falling out of it. The whole oil pump was replaced under warranty and not had an issue since.

Jake, to intentionally barber chair a tree I definitely recommend a heavily leaning hardwood. My co worker and I were experimenting and determined that the back cut needs to be a solid 6”-7” below the horizontal line on the face cut. I’ve also seen it accidentally done by newbies on a large red oak! We were experimenting on Ash trees.

Jake when you do God’s work, he will put you on a path to help someone at an appointed time and it’s clear that God wanted you on this specific plane and heading to Arizona to do some work and in the process you meet up with someone who reached out to you a year ago to do what was asked originally. That’s totally God! It gets better that the person lived in the area where you were going to. This is no coincidence, God wanted you there at this time so you and your friends could bless this person. Great job, AND stay safe always! Enjoy your time in Arizona!

Hey, check your bar posts on your husky. They sit in the oil reservoir, and one of mine wasn't pressed in correctly. It was loose, and for me the bar nut vibrated off, and then the whole post fell into the oil tank. Oil poured out of the hole - it was a huge mess. Its easy enough to fish it out, and use a fishing line to get it through the hole and set correctly. No problems since then. If there's oil pouring out, its probably from the bar post. Worst case scenario, the case is cracked. 😞

I cut often in the coconino national forest. And between the rocks and the dirt filled juniper/cedars, you go through chains like water. Total pain! But some of the best country to fell (fall?) trees in.

My 572 shuts off like that. Come to fine out it’s vapor locking. Haven’t figured out how to fix my yet. It sucks when you have trouble with a saw. Great video!

Try to press the primer so that you flush new fuel in the carb and always start on high idle also when it is warm. try it out maybe it helps you out✌🤙🤘

Unless something on the saw is broke you only need to keep the groove in the bar and the oil hole in the bar clean / unplugged.

Using the sizwheel (spelling 🤷🏻‍♂️) one day I unknowingly cut the hinge. The tree had a very twisted grain that I couldn’t see. Think of it like the grain running at a 45° angle instead of vertical. By cutting vertically at the face of the hinge it severed the grain, resulting in no hinge. Hopefully I explained that so it’s understandable…. Just something to keep in mind, not saying the sizwheel shouldn’t be used.

The biggest tree Jake cut which was the first was 158 years old. I just got back from my property and counted the tree rings. So yes these trees grow extremely slow as well.

In Croatia in this continental part spruce are like 25-30 meters and like 80-100 in diameter cm this trees are like 15-16 meters 40 cm max this trees are very easy to cut. when the quality of the soil is poor trees dont grow big. Near the Danube river we have white poplars of 40 meters high and two meters in diameter when they are rotten, it is almost impossible to tear them down in a populated place in an alpinist style, i have refused several such jobs. In this part of Croatia earth is maybe the best in the world we have black swamp earth with lot of rain lot of sun so the trees grow big.

Air is thin up there! Jake even commented on it. It’s even different than Flagstaff for some reason. It’s odd but it’s my place up on the mountain.

@@Maniacal_Saw_Works On the contrary, I have found that the mtronic really helps for that so you're not always trying to dial in the carb. That said, it takes a bit of time; not sure why, before the automatic adjustments are made.

On a Stihl mtronic if you make a drastic change in elevation they can loose their way somewhat because they start the new day with the same setting from yesterday and adjust from there. If they don’t tune in after a bit of idling and a couple cuts do a field recalibration and it will usually take care of it.

The auto tune carbs struggled up there at 7400 feet but they also were new and hadn’t been broken in yet according to Jake and Gordy. I am the property owner and we talked a lot about the performance and struggle of the altitude. It’s very different in the mountains at Prescott than even Flagstaff. I am very familiar with both areas.

Jacob whats your thoughts on opti 2 oil for my saws. The one gallon mix packets are 71:1. Some saws are stock and some are ported.

Opti 2 is a good choice. Really, any of the synthetic oils aimed at dirt bike guys are a great choice. I use Motul 800 personally, and all but one of mine are ported.

Yes they were auto tune carbs. They were also brand new so it’s probably a combination of things but the altitude was the biggest issue.

@@verteup I'm in WV, OH, and PA most of the time, and round file is more popular here; although some guys square grind. I'm just not patient enough to learn it considering how easy it is to round file and today's saws are super fast anyway, even in our hardwoods, especially if you have your saws hopped up a bit.

Can someone explain how a Humboldt actually saves wood? It's the reason everyone always gives for using vs a conventional face cut, but it seems to be the same to me - you have to make the horizontal cut higher for a Humboldt than for conventional, so even though the conventional has the ugly angle at the bottom of the timber, the top of that angle is basically in the same place as the flat face that you'd get from a Humboldt. Is there more to it?

Loggers use the Humboldt so that the butt of the tree is already flat for the mill. The amount of wood you'd lose cutting the angle off of a conventional notch when the log is on the ground probably saves wood. Even if not, it just saves a step once the tree is down.

It also allows the butt of the tree to hit and allow the rest of the tree to fall from the base to the top thus preventing cracking. This is really important with redwoods because their wood is valuable and brittle. If I can find the educational video Jake did with Jed I will provide the link so you can hear them explain it. I will post it here if I can. It’s while jake was with Eastside Treeworks.

@@markp.9707 Yeah, I'm glad you responded because those power heads seemed a bit big/heavy especially with the wrap handles. The 36" bar would have been seperate and diagonal in a suit case I would imagine. Plus they said ten chains for the G-man; that would add weight for suitcases too.

Friend of mine did some tree trimming at a resort he stays at for the owners. And in order for him to take a saw on the plane it needed to be brand new saw in the factory shipping box.

The cost to get these trees to the mill is cost prohibitive. However, I haven’t cut them all up only 2 have been bucked. The others have been cut into 12 foot lengths and I am inquiring about buying a portable mill. I still have 5 trees that are all bigger than the ones Jake cut down that I will be felling. All those have always been planned to be used for rough sawn timber for barn and gazebo.

Some of the trees you climb are amazingly high. Scares the shit out of me and I'm on the couch. From the size of your huevos you have to be bow legged. 🙇‍♀️ when I cut down trees I'm lucky if they hit the ground
