My children were like, "Mummy, why are we sanitising everything?" I told them some people are not hygienic at all. We need to be in this space for hours and eat here. Do you want to touch a space where someone didn't wash their hands? They changed their minds, and scrubbed every bit of their area without complaint, then threw their used wipe in my bin bag. Then we all sanitised our hands.

May I also add its usually done during re fueling the plane and the cleaning isn't deep at all. It's just a quick wipe down and a check for any rubbish. That most certainly is removed

I always read the safety sheet thingy because I get bored sometimes, and other times it’ll be because of anxiety. However even though I’ve practically memorized this sheet, I feel as if I must read it EVERY SINGLE TIME I’m on a plane

Last time we flew (we rarely do), I brought a packet of disinfectant wipes and wiped down our tray tables (and the little latch to secure them) armrests, seatbelt latches, and the inside of the seat back pocket because I’ve heard those are filthy. If either of us had needed the lavatory, we’d have taken the wipes along, but it was only a couple of hours. If they’d let me bring along a can of Lysol I’d have sprayed the seats too. I was ready to offer wipes to anyone around us who asked for them, but no one did. I’m not that much of a germaphobe, but some people are disgusting.

Wear disposable gloves for going to the toilet. I put them on at my seat and take them off before sitting back down. I keep a trash bag at my seat for this.

Overhead bins are the worst: people have been rolling their luggage in the streets and through puddles and bugs and dog poo all day…. And then they put them into the overhead bin.

And what will you do without the ease of flying, no matter how unhygienic? Take a train? Drive yourself? Businesses that don't have to/aren't required to clean will not. It's seen as a waste of time and resources for many companies. For goodness sake, the CEO needs that money for a 5th yacht. Is it unethical? I mean, probably, and I'm certainly not a fan. Unethical practices is how most billionaires are made.

The safety sheet, (I’m 11 yrs old) and my family travels a LOT. We’ve been traveling since I was just a baby, and ever since I knew how to read, I always rad the safety sheet (even though I always know what it says) cuz I’m so bored and have nothing to do 😂

In all my years of flying I’ve only seen a cleaner clean the galley counter top one time. He used the rag to clean the toilet area first. It was also the only time I have seen them clean the toilet.

I’ve always wiped down my seat, armrests, tray table, seatbelt buckle and the window if I’m seated next to one. I also always use gloves to put my luggage in and take them out of the overhead bins. When I go to the loo, I wash my hands before and after use, and then use my elbow to unlock the door and close the door. Your welcome

From my experience as the maintenance guy, these planes do get cleaning after a while including the seats. And deep clean in the cabin happens at night after the last flight/ nightstop. There are team that does this during the nightshift. But things do stay dirty for awhile if its not something we do on regular basis.

Ever removed seat cushions on passenger seats? Or Dado panels? Most aircraft mechanics, including myself, hate working in the cabin. Landing gear etc. is greasy, but it is "clean dirt".

The same applies to public transport, cinema, theater and many other public places. It is impossible to keep everything clean. Best you can do is wash your hands before eating something and don't touch your face with dirty hands. I know some people also don't touch doorknobs with their hands.

On February 26 2023 I was in the economy seats on a plane and my brother was jumping around so much that I spilled my apple juice and had to sit on that seat for still like two hours and once the plane landed I just ran away and be like no more planes for me hehe

I work for a regional airline and can verify that a cleaning contractor team comes on the overnight plane to clean all seats and tray tables. This is only in DFW so I can’t vouch for smaller outstations. If you want a clean plane, get on the first flight out. The plane only gets dirtier and nastier throughout the day.

#1 I always read the safety pamphlet because no 2 planes are alike and I want to know the layout ahead of time. And #2 After I use the restroom, put the pamphlet back, put my tray table up or down, etc. I ALWAYS use the hand sanitizer I keep in my purse

Hand sanitizer is most effective as PROTECTION after you wash your hands. Using it on dirty hands hardly helps as whatever is on there simply gets spread around.
