Its always very reassuring to witness the level of respect your team has for these sites. It would be very easy to blunder through, with little regard for future generations of researchers. Of course, documenting these sites as they are now is also important in case of damage. Carry on!

I used a pick like that mining for 5years in the early 70s the square end doubled as a hammer for driving rail dogs or shearing bolts on fish plates. The pick was light and very useable and I have the scars on my shins to prove it lol.

Great watch again and the commentary is really great as usual, thank you for doing these. PLEASE post longer vids though, much better for sittin down with a brew to watch properly than short snippets of the day. Please?

Its clear that in your part of the world, there is a great emphasis to protect and preserve ancient history and artifacts in places like abandoned mines. Respect you all.🤠

Great team as always! Loan is such a quicky! Love him. What an explorer 😍 I'm always amazed by the height of the tunnels of old. Folks were smaller in the day 🤔. Love you team 😊

Talking about the Cornish miners learning Welsh perhaps for some it was not such a leap as they may have spoken Cornish a related language. Has any research been done into this I wonder ?

Wearing earbuds the intro bass was much too loud. Turned down the volume then had to turn it up to hear the the narration. Apart from that sound OK. A lot water sounds but normal for Welsh mines.

Yyyyeah, this is the UK were talking about here. You’re lucky to find one abandoned mine in fifty or even more that’s still draining properly or, even more rarely, naturally dry… constant precipitation and high water tables are fairly inescapable there. Even here in the US, most abandoned mines that aren’t in middle of the desert are at least partially soggy, if not completely flooded. Once a mine is abandoned to its own devices, any pumping infrastructure obviously ceases functioning, and people quit maintaining drainage and clearing away ground-fall, it really doesn’t take long at all for the piss ditch (a lovely colloquial title for the drainage ditches in adits and drifts responsible for directing excess water either to the portal, or a sump if it’s not possible to eject it from the mine entirely) to become obstructed. Or the mine will just start filling from the bottom up and flood the entire mine. If it’s that bothersome for you, try using the closed captions. Even if they’re auto-generated and imperfect, they can be quite helpful.
