I lost my dad to a house fire November 2nd. He made it out but the smoke is what did it. Our last conversation the day before. He told me to always keep moving forward because life goes on. This was one of his favorite songs. The realest man I’ve ever known. I sit and wonder why did things happens the way they did. Why won’t he meet my kids, why won’t he see me get married, why won’t he see me get my high school diploma, why he couldn’t be there to see me getting accepted to the colleges I applied too. I listen to his songs and I hear his voice. I forever love you dad.

I cried to this. I grew up in rough Detroit. Getting jumped everyday as a kid for no reason, Stayed getting picked on.. my grades started dropping in middle school I felt dumb would get called dumb mom didn’t care, She would just look at my report card and just throw it away. I dropped out in 8th grade, Started breaking into houses, stealing, didnt feel like my life had no meaning fast forward a few years at 16 my dad that was barley there steeped up and took all my 5 siblings in away from our mom. Dad gave me purpose really sat me down and told me all the adversaries I would go thru as a young man and to look the other way just stay focused and keep your head in them books. Dad put me back in school. And my first card marking my dumbass made the honor roll!!! two years later I graduated with honors😭 Here I am now at 28 educated making 65k a year living in my own condo with a nice whip in the garage and I’m striving next year to make a 100k thank god keep dreaming y’all

I think this is one of the best songs ever written. It makes me cry almost every time I think of it. We had a lot more than others; but things sometimes were tight. I think about me and my friends sharing clothes when we were couch surfing or some dumb teen stuff. From living in my car, to having a salary job now and feeling safe- life is a roller coaster.
