Oh my gosh, you've had a tough year, so sorry for your losses, sending you a big big hug. From one caretaker to another, I hope that you are giving yourself time to grieve and take care of your needs too- you absolutely deserve it.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I can totally see you creating a safe, stable place for your family to land while keeping your own emotions from projecting across the room, and that is beautiful. DO make sure you have a soft landing place of your own where you can process your emotions and let go of the ones you've collected from your family too! Take care, Kaci ❤

I sometimes feel it’s also important to allow your family the space to feel sad and express their grief in whatever way they want. I found watching you to be worried about all your smiling during your sadness. We all understand your grief and it’s ok to be sad on screen. I enjoy your podcast and your amazing knitting. Sending hugs and prayers for your emotional wellness🙏.

It sounds like it’s been a really rough time. Comforting others while you are grieving is extra draining. I agree with you that it’s such a gift to be able to give that to your children and those around you. You need something to fill your cup back up. Whatever that may be. As for the grieving, it was suggested to me when my father died to give myself 10 or 15 minutes a day to grieve however that looks; crying, yelling, contemplating, listening to music. My kids were still little and I was doing what you are doing. It seems strange to schedule grief, but it allowed me to get some of it out and then to be there for the rest of my family when they needed me. That isn’t to say that grief doesn’t creep up on you when you least expect it (for me it always seemed to be in public like the grocery store 😏). But it helps. Hugs to you.

Good for you , Kaci, for casting on those adorable frivolous socks! Made me laugh out loud. You deserve it. Life happens and we just have to go with the flow and a bit of joy is important. I had a time about 40 years ago, where over a two year period, I lost my mother, father, father-in- law, my nana, and four aunts and uncles. During that same time, my then husband graduated as a CPA, got a job in a new community, so we had to move and I had a high risk pregnancy that required that I go off on my own to a bigger community to have the baby- whew! The upside was my lovely daughter (baby number 5) was born and brought so much joy in the midst of our losses. The move ended up being good for our family. All to say, be gentle with yourself, do what you can, and eventually all will be well again. 💜💙💕

A cute look can be wearing a fitted tee under the tate romper to help give more coverage if you want to make sure your bra straps stay hidden. I do that with spaghetti strap dresses a lot.

Hi Kaci. I’m a little newer to your podcast and have really been enjoying watching you chat about your projects. I’m from SC. M husband is from Little Rock and much of his family lives in Hoxi so I feel a kindredness to you. I wanted to pipe in real quick and give you some tips on your next romper. You made an excellent decision to lengthen your bodice. On your next one I recommend adding maybe another 2 inches but make bust darts directly under your chest down to your waist. (Leaving a little bit of positive ease of course.) Then when you add the pant portion to your bodice it won’t stick out and will be less fabric and more flattering. You can do this in the back as well if it has a zipper closure somewhere? I’ve sewn most of my life and do clothing drafting/patterns. If you ever have any questions or want to FaceTime for a little help just let me know. I’m always happy to share my knowledge. Thank you for being a sweet soul and for sharing yourself exactly as you are. HUGS 🤗

I so admire those who can be stoic in the face of grief upon grief, because I’m usually the opposite- a puddled mess of tears and snot and red and swollen eyes. However when my brother died of pancreatic cancer in 2008 following a series of other extended family member deaths, my faucets turned off for a brief period and I was dry eyed at the memorial service and the subsequent days. And then I physically collapsed in the shower and could barely function. My then 6, 7 and 8 year old daughters called Daddy and he got me to the doctor. After checking me over my wise family doctor told me that I was physically okay but that I needed to stop holding the grief in to protect my girls. She encouraged me to model how to grieve in front of them so they could learn that grief is part of life and we go through it together. My waterfalls came back and I allowed myself to cry in front of and with my daughters. Grief is hard work. Grief has its own timetable. Grief is more bearable when shared with others who also loved the one we are grieving. Hugs to you as you walk through yours. ❤

Oh I am the same, I call myself “emotionally incontinent”. My son always tells me that I am no help to the next of kin with all my crying. But like you told when you keep it bottled up and don’t let it out, it will destroy you. So sorry to hear about your brother.

Loved seeing your peach trees, sad one had to go. We live off grid in the bush and have just planted a few months ago two peach and an apricot tree. As we are heading to Australian winter they are losing their leaves 🍁 and I’m hoping they survive the frost - they’re supposed to grow well here So glad we moved here from Sydney last year as it’s much cooler and not humid here so I can knit to my hearts content and wear knits for a lot longer. I have just started knitting DK worsted and thicker unspun and mohair garments here - in Sydney it was superwash fingering all the way. Hang in there Kaci I’m sure you are the bedrock of your family right now

Oh my, Kaci, grief is a tough part of our lives. My 26 year old son died several years ago and my mother died in April. I have found solace in family primarily. And meditation for finding peace and calm. I’ve learned that people do grieve differently and one needs to respect that. And, like you, I’m a mother. We do put our children first and are there as a safe harbor for them. Take care of yourself. Big virtual hug from Minnesota where spring is bringing comfort. I wish I could lighten your load.

I think Joji’s newest tank top pattern with lace down the sides would also look pretty in that lovely flax yarn. 🧶 ❤

Dear Kaci, I really feel for you. I do feel the desire to share my opinion, in the hope you might find some inspiration: the trope of the strong woman holding space for everyone is super toxic and often implies pushing aside your own needs and grief process unconsciously. I personally don’t feel that it’s a healthy model to pass on and promote, especially since it often lead to health issues down the line. It’s a pattern that is valued by society for its productivity though. Women deserve better, the right to fall apart, the right to not be there for everybody, the right to grieve and be sad, the right to do nothing, to rest, to be supported…. I hope you have that support system

Thank you so much! Thankfully I have some great friends that are there for me and my husband take turns being there for each other! It was my turn this time with his dad. But my had an accident and needed surgery this week and it has been his turn to be there for me. Thankfully I have a great support system but I know many women don’t.

Oh Kaci...Is there anywhere you can fall apart? Do you have a safe harbor to feel all your feelings with? I know as women and mothers we're taught to put everyone else before ourselves, and I see you smiling and talking about grief and loss and it makes me wonder how you're doing, what you need, what being that strong rock for others is doing to you...I apologize if this is too much, and please know I say this will all the love and empathy I can provide.

Take care girl… love watching.. the knitting and the sewing. One question I am always thinking.. in your intro you says we rase chickens and animals.. do you find there is a differnts between them.. because we have an old lady-cat (19years) and 3 chickens but they are all animals.. is this a stupid question I dont now … big hug Mieke from Belgium

They are all animals! I guess I’m just meaning that we also raise other animals besides chickens 😉

@@YoungfolkKnits i want to make one but I am about the same size bust as you and worried it would look like a tent on me. Obviously it doesn’t if you’ve made that many. 😍. Thanks for answering my question. I’m off to buy the pattern. I have a few different linens I can try it with. I’m 70 and have been sewing for a long time so am pretty good at pattern fitting. I will probably just do a test of the bodice. I always have to lower darts a fair bit in patterns. Gravity isn’t a friend to those of us with big busts and then age on top of it!
