My standard "modification" on this pattern (I've made three so far and plan more) is to knit a much smaller than recommended amount of ease. I do 4" or less of ease and it's a fantastic, comfortable fit without the oversized look that never works on me. Also - if you're doing the 3/4 sleeves I recommend doing the short row shaping just below your elbow instead of at your wrist - it makes a LOVELY fitting sleeve! It's just a subtle thing but it makes the sleeves that much more comfortable and classy and I love mine so much. Also, I have successfully knitted a bulky weight ranunculus at very close to the given gauge which gave a dense, sweatshirt-like fabric that is so very cozy. With that thick yarn, the lace is not very open at all and even in the winter I can wear it without a shirt underneath if I want to.

You can also modify the gauge. Do a gauge swatch to get a fabric you like, or even just knit the yoke then measure the gauge there. Figure out your average stitches per inch by dividing the stitches in 4 inches by 4. Decide how big you want it. Go to the section in the pattern that says how many stitches you have after splitting for sleeves, because that’s the number of stitches in your body. Multiply your stitch per inch number by the inches you want your garment to measure. Pick the size with the number of body stitches close to that number. You could probably make it smaller than 46 inches by mathing the number of raglan increases you need if you want it smaller.

That’s how I do mine. I just measure my gauge after the yoke and go from there 😁

I have been considering this for quite a while, since I want to use a light fingering but avoid the openness of the created fabric. But: How do I tackle the presumably large difference in row gauge? Add more stockinette rows in between pattern rows? Add additional pattern repeats? Do something else I haven't thought of yet? :) This pattern really is a rabbit hole ! 💖

A good way to determine your natural waist is to stand in front of a mirror and bend sideways. Where that “fold” appears is your natural waist. Saves measuring or staring in the mirror trying to see where it sits on you. We are all different.

Mercy, You can't go wrong with a ranunculus. Ever. I have made a few and my two favorite are a black silk / linen and a Sandnes Garn Tyke Line in jelly bean green. I was shocked at how many colors of pants I can wear the green one with. I made my first when the pattern was released so I just use it and go with the flow no matter my yarn.I agree the German twisted is the way to go. It is the only cast on I use from socks to sweaters. I think I will pop a row or two in a different color at neck and sleeve edge on my next one. Maybe Drops brushed alpaca. Great video on such a loved pattern. Thanks Kaci!!

I'm making one with Holst Supersoft in Cinnamon and KFO Soft Silk Mohair in Copper at a 16st/4" gauge, where I changed the eyelets in the yoke for baubles. I planned on doing balloon sleeves and a long body with a split hem, but I'm running out of the mohair and IDK if I want to place an order for just one more ball. So now it might be cropped and half sleeves, which might be a little funny for a mohair top. But it doesn't get that cold here, so really it should be fine over a dress in the winter.

I'm racing to finish my first Ranunculus in a week. I've used Drops Air, with bracelet length sleeves with icord bind off. I did the 70 stitch cast on, as you suggested, because I like sweaters to stand away from my neck. I used the double twist loop cast on mentioned in the pattern and demonstrated by Sun Dragon. I think it's great that it works up so quickly with so little yarn, leaving us eager to buy more yarn and start the next Ranunculus! I think I'm going to use a cotton and silk dk weight yarn for a short sleeved version next. I know some vloggers have used 5.5mm (US 9) needles and wonder whether to try this. Thanks for your video.

I have heard that the Ranunuculous is a very boxy fit, and not necessarily flattering on larger ladies without a larger bust. So if l make one l think waist and hip shaping would be a modification for me.

I had just decided to make one with yarn I bought to make a second cloud sweater. I am still make my first cloud sweater and do not want to purl anymore ( for now) thanks for the tips! Did you see the new one Tracie (Grocery Girls) made? She made a winter version with bobbles instead of the open lace, gorgeous.

Funny how so many talk about the Ranunculus ( I have not made one ) but the Flax worsted has about 5,000 ore projects ;-).

I knit a Ranunculus recently. I followed the pattern pretty closely, but I decided to finish the short sleeve version with some cuff ribbing. I also had to knit a striped version because I ordered two skeins of Malabrigo Sock in Fiona but they may as well have been entirely different shade codes 😑

I’m pondering my third R. I turned it into a cardigan by steaking at the center front and adding button band. It was fun, but with the big neckline it does not stay up so I have to wear it buttoned at the top. Not a big deal really!

Hello everyone! A fairly newer knitter here, the pattern shows the sweater so loose and wide; how do you modify to make it closer to your body?

The make up looks lovely. I wear very little makeup, like you. But I like how yours looks. Are you an autumn colouring, or a spring? I'm an autumn, but an unusual one because even though I'm definitely a deep tawny autumn, I have fair hair, light skin, and blur eyes, so I find it really difficult to find the right make up colours. I thought I was a summer before I had my colours done, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The correct colours were so obvious. I had thought it was normal for me to look pale and washed out, lol. It says on the sight that they have a shade selector (they may have called it something else) to help choose the right colours, but I couldn't find it. Do you know where it is? What colour blush were you using? It looks so good on you.

Yes I am an autumn!!! Ok so for the shade finder : muse.meritbeauty.com/kaci go here and then select complexion and then select the perfecting complexion stick. Above the shades is a button that says “shade finder” you can click on that

I’m a new sweater knitter and I can’t wrap my head around a pattern that can be knit in any weight yarn. Do you just go by your gage with the yarn you are going to use and knit to inch width of what you want for a sweater? Any help would be appreciated

In my next one I will omit the short rows in the front neck. The one I have comes up too far in the front . It will be less “boat necked”

I have only just come to German Twisted Cast in which I love. What bind off do you recommend using to match this. I read somewhere I celandine Bind Off but I don’t find this to be a good match.
