Very informative. I've been having fun trying to explain it all to people, and I know I'll be doing a lot more of it soon.

Good video. I was told by customer service that the copper landline allows you to use the phone during storm outages. It's one of the eeasons more than one person I've talked to prefers to stick with it for now

That ability will go when the voice network is turned off. They have options of using mobile phones or having backup power on their router and phone to keep it powered during an outage. Routers and a phone are not heavy power devices and a UPS battery would only need to be on the smaller side unless they expect multi hour outages.

we got a (BT Decor 2200 V2) phone with a RJ11 pluged in from the phone to the (EX230v Router) but no tone or anything when I listen to the reciver - but the little green light with the phone icon is on solid & green - but not sure if its all done migrating over to the new sytem yet as we want to keep our old number but the internet part is working just no functional phone use yet don't even know if our phone is even compatible - not sure how long I should leave it before ringing my ISP to ask why its not working or if its working

The hole copper network system is getting switched off in 2025, you either switch over to fibre or get left without service. Btw, you can still use old phones over the fibre network just have to plug the phone directly into BT's new routers, now if they are analogue phones got to buy converter that plugs inbetween the phone and the phone port on the back of BT's new routers.

Great if it works a family member was switched over to fibre plugged in the adaptor sent in the post and no phone line working? Cannot receive or make calls so has to ring up provider on mobile says they'll reset and re-register the number and it could take 48 hours. 48 hours later it still didn't work, so she range up again, lucky she has a mobile as some do not, re-registered again another 2 days still not working, now she's waiting for an engineer to come out, and needs compensation for the landslide. If this happened to elderly people with no home phone on their own what are they suppose to do!? @@StuffJason437

The copper line is far better quality. It is also far more reliable. Power outages do not affect the copper line as there are back up generators at the exchanges. Nothing repeat nothing can beat the copper line. I have a copper line to our local exchange and also have very fast broadband through the copper line. Wi-Fi throughout my house means I have all the facilities I need. I am going to cling on to my copper line as long as possible or until I see something better, which there is nothing better at the present time. I suspect the wolves are looking at all that copper that can be got from the BT underground cables. Remember once gone never to be got back. No doubt there will be incentives on offer to ditch that copper wire coming into your house soon. One of the tricks up their sleeve is to cause the master socket to fail by simply applying a voltage that can cause it to fail…. Very easily done. The cost of repair could be quite high as it entails a visit to replace the socket. But we shall see how this goes over the years as some people cling to their copper connection. Then there is the security issue….copper is very secure unless the law is broken and someone taps into your copper line.

Once again someone with a very low knowledge base trying to sound good. Power outages in rural areas are going to be a problem, a big problem. Just looking at the comment, you will need a Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), what a throw away comment. Firstly how long will you need your UPS to last? How much will it be? Plus who will pay? Simply the longer you need it to last the more it will cost, BT offer a 60min back up battery for around 60min of use which of course they will sell you. Yet some power outages can be 12 hours plus and in rural areas even longer. Mobile coverage is not that hot in large areas of the uk so you can't rely on using a mobile to summon help and of course with no power how do you recharge it. I wonder when the first death of an individual will be attributed to a fibre optic power failure?
