I just went through this. My relationship was for 8 years. I was in your situation back in Nov23, took me a solid 6 months to recover. She left for someone else. I Still have my moments here and there.i will tell you this, It takes as long as you let it. The quicker you go no contact and find ways to improve yourself, gym holidays spend time with friends/family etc the quicker you will heal. It's all in your head. The thoughts will ease over time and you will look back and wonder what you was even worrying about. Besides, U never know the no contact may even trigger them to reach out.

All you can do is what you are doing now, unfortunately a lot of people do not start no contact immediately. A lot of times that 2-3 months you stay in communication after the breakup is enough to help your ex move on. The distance also doesn’t help. But stay in no contact, it’s still your best move

It's hard to see it now, but you need to grow and be a better father for your kids. Once you see your old self coming back with ambitions. It'll get easier. I totally get you about everything you feel. My parents are together and love each other but my father lives in a different country since i was 7. I’m 30 now. Sure both of them tried their best to be the best parents in the universe. But even if i spent a few months a year with my father, growing up without the full presence of a parent affected me lot. Ask yourself what is more important for your child? If the answer is to have their both parents in her life and be there at all her life events feeling love and supported, then you really have to work on yourself and be with her mother. By that i mean, make sure you get your needs met, take time to be happy on your own so you can set the boundaries and understand what you want from a healthy relationship. She has to improve her ways too and choose you for who you are. I have jealousy issues so i get you. If she dates other man and gets back to you it’s because you have become a better fit for her. So take it as a compliment. But she won’t come back if you are depressed. I know how challenging my depression was for my partner. But if being emotional is a big part of who you are, and depression is always there with you, even if she comes back, the life of your daughter will be hell, seeing her parents not getting along. So then understand your emotions first and look for a partner that can understand and deal with your emotional needs. For another ex i had, my emotions were never ever a problem. Even when i had constant panic attacks and mood swings. We broke up because we had different life goals. But what i mean is that if being emotional is your essence and you can’t stop being triggered that your ex slept with other men, just date someone that accepts you for who you are. In this case your child will be much more happier with a family that provides love and peace. And about suicidal thoughts. My last partner was upset everytime I mentioned that i wanted to die and really avoided this conversations and made me feel guilty for feeling that way. But my other ex would always say something empathetic or redirect my attention with questions like ‘how do you imagine life on the other side’, ‘what kind of ghost would you be’ or ‘wouldn’t it be nice to have an ending of suffering’? Or other times saying things like ‘ it’s not worth trying it, what if you fail and have to live 40 more years in a wheelchair?’. But i felt this questions made me feel understood and also made the suicidal thoughts disappear. And i felt loved. So what i mean is that a partner can make you feel guilty for this thoughts that you can’t control, and other partner can help you to not take yourself too seriously and dissolve the desire for dying.

And one more question. Your daughter will be a teenager one day. And she will have a period when she will totally rebel against you. There will be mean things she will say. Let’s be honest we are all traumatized and we are going to hurt our kids as well. But the question is what do you prefer your daughter to be angry about? Here you have many choices why she can be angry at you: because you separated from her mother, because you couldn’t forgive her mother, because you were a depressed father, because you never opened your heart and love again and now she doesn’t know how to love, because you had bad habits. Or maybe you can do whatever you can to be the person you want to be and one day hopefully she will only hate you for your music taste and become a rebel and listen to the music you don’t like.
