This video (and a few others you have posted) have had a huge impact on my game. I'm almost 40 and I play pick up once or twice a week with people around my age. It's far from top quality, but some of the players played in college including D1 and some were semi pro in their home countries , so it's not terrible. I used to be decent, but I had gained about 35 lbs since getting married and having kids! I would show up to these games slow and out of shape. I would get so frustrated at constantly losing 50/50s or generally being a non-factor against players I know I can compete with. While this video might be stating the obvious, many people don't think of how much extra belly fat can affect your game. Over the last 2.5 months, I've changed my diet, and I've been following your speed program routine from your website which includes weight training. I've since lost about 18 lbs (still got more to go!), and my performance on the field has changed significantly. In addition to the diet changes, your weight training and speed routines have definitely given me more pep to my step. People were expecting me to be a non-factor but now I'm playing with much more confidence and I'm one of the better players out there (some of the players with more soccer credentials are not taking care of their bodies and I'm outplaying them). I'm beating players to the ball, winning tackles more and covering more ground. Others have definitely noticed the difference. I just wanted to let you know that even an older cat like me has taken your guidance and it's helped!!

Hey Matt I just bought the Footballer Physique and was wondering for the shred focus if the cardio and weight days were supposed to be done on the same days or separate? For example: should I be doing doing weights and cardio on day 1 2 and 3 with the extra day for cardio or should they be separate to make up a full seven day plan? @@filipbrz07east23 ah nice. Right now im still pretty fat (27% bodyfat) and in going to work on getting to 15% body fat. My workout is gonna be 20 squats, 20 pushups, 20 situps, and 2 miles running. That mixed with a eat less sugars and carbs diet and i should be there in around 3 months. Also the running is to lose weightn while the other 3 workouts are just to build muscle over time to not lose any muscle while weight losing too.

What about overtraining in season with overloads of training sessions games and workouts? Could this contribute to the decrease in performance? What if the main cause is not completely diet but the stress the body is put under with low rest periods in season. There are also a lot of studies on natural athletes losing muscle because their body fat percentage is too low

I have been wanting to lose fat for a while and I play soccer and I'm pretty fast but I want to get better and this is exactly what I needed to know, I will make it my goal to lose at least 5 pounds of body fat in the next 3-5 months because I know it isnt that easy but if I do accomplish it earlier well better , remind me to update you guys about it , wish me luck !

I agree with your point that body fat slows you down, but would it be also plausible that some players have a small layer of body fat to protect them from collisions? I know some boxers have it to absorb some impact from the punches so similar may apply to athletes who have a little fat maybe?

Matt. I'm 18 years old. I am 6ft tall and weigh 75 kgs. I still am very thin. I am pretty quick. I want to put on more muscle mass so I can hold the ball and shrug opponents while at the same time I don't want to decrease my speed and I'd like to increase it. Can you give me some tips? Matt You're amazing. People always wonder what separates Ronaldo from all other players. Ronaldo's body fat percentage has been taken to be 3% less than regular models, which is mad, but for example comparing him to Lionel Messi, who is a great player, doesn't have the ability to jump as high or run as fast as Cristiano Ronaldo. It is a great discovery indeed and thanks for putting it out here, as an advantage in sense of motivation and understanding our bodies. Thanks man!

Hey Matt, im 14 years old and come from Norway. I just want to ask you for some advice for something which have happened recently. I have played football since I was 6 years old, and it wasn’t until for about 5 months ago I switched club to play football for a higher skilled team. Which I still play for now and don’t plan to change for some time. So on this team one of my friends which also is my classmate play too, and he has a little more experience on playing on that level or division, because he have played there longer than me. The thing is that in school or outside he’s one of my best friends and nice to me, but on the football pitch he can get really angry or frustrated at especially me. It isn’t because I’m really bad, but because I have an other style of playing than him. For an example is if the other team has the ball at the wing (I play fullback). He just wants me to rush at the player and try take ball (without him guarding me). While I am just standing on my toes and waiting for the attackers move and for someone to have my back. When I do this he usually whines with a really low voice about that I have to go in with the tackle and that I shouldn’t be afraid, which I don’t think is meant to reach me. It just lays in his body language, he rolls his eyes and rarely seeks eye-contact. It’s just something you can sense which is looked at towards you. Sometimes if I do this many times in a row he can get really angry and start raging. I do always choose what I think is the right thing to do in each situation, both on the pitch and off it, maybe I sometimes are wrong but I know what I’m doing. When he does this I’m usually quiet and doesn’t use my energy on disagreeing with him. Ps. This does for the most happen in training, it can get really tensed up sometimes and a lot of emotions can show on both teams. Especially anger. As you probably notice English is not my 1st language so forgive my writing mistakes if it is any. Between love your vids, keep it up😄
