That is true. A lot of smaller company’s are able to hit that sweet spot because they have less over heads etc. if you look at the larger brands they have more and better engineers developing machines compared to a one man team, so instantly that causes a price increase for the one compared to the other.

My first machine I went too cheap. I got lucky that it’s not useless but it’s a dedicated liner. And that was fine because in the beginning that’s all I was doing. But I’ve picked up a couple more that can do shading and lining and push big mags. Having the crap machine was a positive experience because I can appreciate a nicer machine now. It’s hard in the beginning because there are very few people with experience that are willing to give quality advice. And even more that are just equipment snobs.

Yeah but a Cheyenne which only uses Cheyenne needles which are the most expensive on the market spend roughly 1600 quid on two machines with no explanation to what it does great job lads .... 😂

Hey, I just read your comment and I am kind of in the same boat. I am a graphic designer/illustrator who wants to become a tattoo artist. Would love to hear how your career is going. Are you a tattoo artist now? Was the switch hard to make?

@@EveLuna23 Unfortunately, my journey has been exceedingly difficult. I've been told by a shop owner that no shop is going to apprentice anyone my age (or gender as apparently many shops favor women), no matter how good of an artist I am, or how much prior professional experience I have. It was also explained to me that even if I were to find a mentor, there is no way any aspiring tattoo artist can reasonably expect to make a livable wage in under two years time without establishing a large client base. It would seem my only recourse is to be self-taught - which the whole industry looks down upon - and risk the liability of building a client base completely on my own. It's been pretty demoralizing, but I will still forge ahead. Many others have succeeded in the past as self-taught artists, so there is no reason why I can't do it too. Sorry, I don't have a more optimistic answer for you.

Obsessed with the history, the people, im drawing/painting every day, getting work done myself, looking into machines and learning them (haven't bought them yet as I want a good machine to start not a "beginner" one). I'm kicking myself for not finding this love for tattooing 10-15 years ago but can't do anything about that lol Anyways, this age aspect is def a bit deflating but as you said that isn't changing how I feel either about wanting to still do it. I do have a child and yeah it's a bit tough planning to apprentice for a few years for minimal to no pay with kids and bills. Also not wanting to cut corners and doing it solid. I've wanted to bring this stuff up with my artist and prob still will, but I don't want to come off like "well you must just not really want it" or "yeah maybe you just aren't cut out for it". At the end of the day you don't really need anyone's "permission" but at the same time it sure helps the learning curve having some mentors and help along the way. Not to mention a legit shop to work out of to build customers. Hope it works out for you! Im gna keep chugging along myself and make this stuff happen.

Simple answer would be no. If you want a decent wireless machine then you need to invest in one. A lot of the cheaper ones the battery doesn’t provide a decent amount of power so it’s not worth it. You can use a battery on the spirit but yes the balance will be off.

Well if you look at it like this. A cheap machine that isn’t the best of quality you can be looking at around £150 a£250 on Amazon. A Cheyenne spirit motor body is about £230 so in that respect it would be better to buy that machine as we know it will work and last. So you aren’t wasting your money buying expensive equipment when other machines cosy up to £1000. There are multiple options out there for people.

@@ThatTattooShow Fair point , I didn’t realise a Cheyenne was actually that cheap. Maybe you could do a show on “how to make your own starter kit” Advice on what power supply, inks, needles , fake skin etc; that is built on a budget. Just a thought 😉

We are working on that :) Yeah the spirit motor body is cheap to be fair. It’s a really good entry level machine as it’s great quality

Needles are always single use when using them on skin.

Ahhh yeah if tattooing on fake skin I’d probably still change them just cause the needles will become blunt.

cheap 10-50$ chinese coil machine can start cheap and working well, but better invest lot better rotate pen machine less than 100$ can buy many good machine what have lot better than any old shit coil guns ewer.

Contact your local health authority and they can advise you.

You would need to check the laws where you are, some places it is illegal to tattoo people when unlicensed.

Yo bostjan… it’s been a while. While I agree with what you are saying. Not all machines are made equally and as I always stress on the channel, better quality built machines will make you faster and more efficient as an artist. Also more reliable machines will break down less etc. So while I totally agree that it does depend on the hands of the tattoo artist. A good quality built machines will always trump a low quality built machine. I would also like to add that the trail of thought your father has lies mostly with could machines as they are all basically the same. It’s not the same trail of though with rotary machines. Also there are multiple factors as to why machines from certain company’s cost so much these days. Hopefully you understand what I mean. As for the comment which implies we are greedy, this channel has cost us a lot of money to produce and still does. Money for the most part that comes out of our own pockets so people like yourself can have readily available information for free. I’ll be quite honest with you also, I don’t think you fully understand what you wrote as you are just regurgitating something your father has told you. You lack the knowledge and experience to make a fully formed opinion of your own, I’m not being rude by saying this just stating what the facts are.

@@ThatTattooShow Even when it comes to coil machines, they are all not created equal, at all. A cheap chinese machine cannot laydown a line like something like a Time machine or Pulse. Really they cant even stand up to a Technical Tattoo Supply branded machine. I may not have 40 years experience but i do have over 20. Maybe the comment about the 40 year experience saying basically that ther all equal comes from the older era. Alot simpler designs and style. When i came into it "New School" was a new style, which paved the way to basically where we are now.

That I totally agree with. I was using coils as an example because they all essentially have the same build i.e. wound coils, armature bars and springs etc which is why someone could think they are are the same. But you have the same trail of thought as myself.

@@ThatTattooShow 😉 knew exactly what you were saying. People dont realize how much metalergy goes into a machine and also how it was done. Especially the coils themselves. Set up spacing, spring weight. I wish everyone coming into it now had to start where we did. Making needles from scratch, setting up machines and tuning them. Theres so much that they have no clue that its even a thing. Now days they just buy a rotory pen and think thats it. Most people that really know coil machines cant completely give them up. I finally got a rotory several years ago now but i still line with a coil machine. They are a completely different creature and they are all different.

Bang on, with rotaries it’s a whole different thing as well. Not all motors are equal, they are all tuned to the specs of the companies who in some cases pay engineers to work of the design and manufacturing of them. Some do far more stringent testing than others. Then there’s where they are made, if made in Europe labour costs are more expensive than if they are made in China and assembled in Europe etc. It’s never as simple as what people think.

That’s not how it works sadly. You can’t just ask us for a machine, it’s not fair on everyone else. Each person will have the same opportunity to win a tattoo machine when we do the giveaways.
