You assumed when you got your powers that your life would be like a movie. You thought you wouldn't be able to keep a job, or a girlfriend. But you managed pretty well. You had a stable job, a loving partner, and a life. At least, for a while.
You were a superhero. You were in the superhero league. But they kept asking more of you. Then, they didn't ask. They demanded. And when you didn't meet their demands, they threatened to tell the world your real identity. So you did what they asked. They needed someone to take the fall for all their problems, and you were the scapegoat. They betrayed you.
You lost everything. Your partner left, you lost your job. All you had left were your powers. So you used them.
In the public eye, you were the worst of the worst. So you ran with that. Why not? You had nothing left to lose.
You rebuilt yourself, slowly but surely. The world saw you as a villain, and you learned to live with that. Eventually, you found a new job at a little bookstore. And that's where you met your new girlfriend.
She quickly became your whole world, and you were hers. She treated you like royalty. It didn't take long for you to realize it. She was the one. You just had to hide her from your other life. Because you had a lot of enemies.
You couldn't hide forever. It was inevitable that the superheroes would find you. You had hoped you would have longer to live with your girlfriend, but it was not to be. There was nothing you could do. They found out where you lived. You had to leave.
