If you're carrying a gun that's bigger than your concealment sweet spot, then you're setting yourself for a lot of comfort and concealment challenges. That's not to say that it cannot be done, but it will certainly be more of a challenge. Most of the time, I'd rather have the bigger gun and just make full use of the concealment gear/tech like wing/claws and wedges. But I appreciate the thinking and concept.

Quite helpful to put some parameters to this complex subject. Noticed that you carry at 12, your husband carries at 3. Do the calculations hold for both concealment positions? Thank you for this excellent content, and helping to create realistic expectations.

My EDC for 3 years has been my 2.0 compact with an RMR on top. My hip to gun ratio appears to be at 64%, but I've always felt quite concealed with my Enigma and Tier 1 holster 🤷‍♂️. Definitely an interesting calculation that could be useful for brand new gun owners though.

Is your Tier 1 an Elite? If so, how do it fit well with the Enigma? I just ordered a Elite for my P365X a few weeks ago, and hopefully it will be here soon.

@@DavidMilesMusic its in a holster the whole point of a holster is nothing can get in the trigger guard wdym. leather holsters that wear out and just tucking it in a belt bare are what causes that

@evanward9739 i can just google and watch guns going off from obstructions in holsters (not leather) such as a piece of clothing. All it takes is missing it one time for an accident. Might never happen to you or me. I prefer not to take that risk. Extreamly low chance but the chance exists

How about a recommendation for gun length vs hip to rib distance or something similar for the vertical dimension of the sweet spot? Xiphoid process to pubic symphysis? I'm still working on my positioning because I'm at or above the upper end of the shown percentage, but left right doesn't seem as much of a problem as up & down.

Yes! I think the clothing you wear makes a big difference here too. Pants that sit lower allow for less barrel length to be comfortable and vice versa.

I went from a Smith & Wesson Shield to a Glock 43X. Sadly, for years I haven't been able to find a CC system that fits me. I have three major problems that I run into when trying to conceal carry. 1) I'm 5'3, short waisted, medium to narrow waisted, but have medium to curvy hips so I can't have something that will push up and dig into my ribs or boobs when I sit down 2) I never wear baggy or even loose fitting clothes, always form fitting, and if I do wear a short-sleeved T-shirt I always do the front-tuck look (I hate having the entire T-shirt hanging outside of my jeans - it overwhelms my tiny figure and looks frumpy) 3) I'm willing to carry on either my side or appendix, but I wear a lot of long and mid-length dresses as well so I'll also need a good ankle or thigh holster that won't dig into me or make me look like I have a body part that I wasn't born with lol.

I liked all 6 of the videos, I carry at 12 oclock with either a Canik tp9 elite sc, CZ P07, Cz P10c, S&W M&P Shield Plus or a Mossberg mc2c and love that way, I’m trying to get my wife to try the Enigma express with her S&W J frame she has, she wants nothing to do with semi automatic pew pews 😂 she’s currently watching videos from the Phlster site right so we shall see, oh she currently just keeps it in her purse but I’ve told her she needs to carry different because in the purse won’t help if someone steals it from her, thank you for the great videos.

While bigger guys can DEF make it work. As a former big boy NOTHING has made the difference losing weight has. A G17 or P30 went from impossible to very doable. Additionally wing claws no longer caused discomfort

Are you using the P365XL holster for your regular P365? I learned about the keel principle and ordered the XL holster for my P365X, but part of me still wonders if the improved concealment weighs up against the lack of comfort (especially when trying to sit down.)

So since you are measuring the height of the pistol, are you saying the same pistol with irons is better for concealment than that same pistol with a red dot installed? I have never carried with a red dot, but have been strongly considering doing so.
@PHLster

I’d say, “it depends.” For some people, depending on their size, their shape, and how much of their body the gun occupies, when they try to make the grip print less, the top corner of the optic might see-saw a little bit and print more. But this is usually very easily manageable and fixed, so I wouldn’t discourage people from carrying with a dot, especially given the capability a dot offers. If I had to choose between a slightly bigger gun and no dot, and a slightly smaller gun WITH a dot, I’d pick the slightly smaller gun.
@nicholasgraves3149

Depending on where you wear the gun and what clothing you wear, I'd say the back of the slide is more likely to print than the optic.

We’re not saying that you should. We’re managing peoples expectations about what’s going to be easy and ergonomic to conceal and wear for 8-12 hours a day. And also, it’s not that hard to shoot well with small guns. It’s easier that trying to carry a gun which is oversized relative to your anatomy.

@@BCarnes I daily a 5” m&p9 with a tlr1 and rds. I have found it no more uncomfortable than a similarly equipped 4” compact and it actually conceals better for reasons phlstr gets into on the channel better. I spent years trying to make small guns work for me and after watching a video of theirs on the keel effect of a longer gun, I carried my 5” performance center for a few days and that was months ago and I’ve no intention of changing back.
