I love how whenever someone reacts to Your Name everyone tells them that they should react to A Silent Voice, and when someone reacts to A Silent Voice everyone tells them to watch Your Name. It's like if the two movies complement each other.

The movie was a huge hit in Japan. It made a new box office record. Cuz 4years before the movie, a big earth quake occurred and over 20 thousand people died in tsunami in japan. At that time alot of people in japan really wished they could go back in time and warn people. The movie was inspired by the disaster. The comet represents the earthquake. Thats why we feel deeply immersed into the movie.

The memory loss is associated with how we tend to forget our dreams minutes after waking up. The fact that the grandma calls the body switch as "dreaming" and Taki and Mitsuha at the beginning of the movie thought the body switch was just dreaming kinda hints at that.
@G1NZOU
@G1NZOU 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you occasionally get that really vivid dream, but as soon as you wake up no matter how hard you try you can't clearly remember it. I love how they incorporated the red thread of fate motif in there too with the cords.

My favorite of all the stories though is the family member who burnt everything down who was obvious a body switch that probably freaked out and accidently started a fire during a bad dream.

Fun fact: the part when Taki wrote “I love you” in Mitsuhas palm is because everything related to love is protected by the moon goddess (if I’m not mistaken), plus he knew it would disappear if he wrote his name, so he chose something that would stick with her to push her on (like a motivation to keep on): his declaration of love, simply put it like this; knowing that someone out there loves her gives her the strength to carry on, no matter the odds.

1:03:03 They kinda explained the reason for that in the movie. When Taki entered the "underworld" wanting to change the past, he had to leave something behind in exchange: his memories of her. "In exchange for returning to this world, you must leave behind what is most important to you."

So there's a manga that was written to supplement this movie and the main story. The real reason that Mitsuha's father finally agreed to evacuate the town was because of one reason, he saw his late wife Futaba in his own daughter. The manga of Your Name: Another Tale Earthbound, shares the backstory of when he first met and married Mitsuha's mother. He originally came to Itomori to study the town's history and culture. And he gave up everything from his life to stay in Itomori, marry Futaba and become part of the town as a shrine priest as the movie states. Futaba performed the same dance that we see Mitsuha and Yotsuha perform in the beginning of this movie. And at this point, after he spent enough time with her, Futaba confessed that for mysterious reasons, she knew that when she first laid eyes on him, something was telling her that she would marry him, no question about it. After they were married and they started their family, Futaba actually described the story about how the lake was formed and that a long time ago, a fragment of the comet caused the crater to form and then the lake was filled in over the years. She actually saw, in her dreams, that the comet was going to strike again and that all the women in her family line had witnessed this particular dream but had no idea of the impending doom. So, when Mitsuha finally returned and tried to ask one last time to evacuate the town, her father saw the spitting image of Futaba, his late wife. Ultimately, all the memories of why he stayed in Itomori came flooding back in that moment. It was because of his family that he tried to work so hard. As fate would have it, he was the head of the town and able to get everyone to evacuate. Not only did Mitsuha help save the citizens of Itomori with Taki's help, but this implies that Futaba also could rest easy as her role as one of the shrine maidens of her family was fulfilled as well.

Some people don’t understand why Taki and Mitsuha react like stranger when they finally met up at staircase , and they even nervously walk by each other . Actually that was first time they have meet in REAL person , not in soul switched or the Twilight moment . They CAN’T remember each other name or face, they just have a same kind of feeling “ searching for someone or something “ ( has been mentioned for few times in movie ) So in that staircase scene , Taki and Mitsuha were totally stranger to each other for no doubt . The story trying to tell us ... sometimes , you will know he/she is the RIGHT person when you make eyes contact , we should be courage to make the first step , believe in your senses , grab your love and don’t let it slip away . You guys are cool , thank you for react to this beautiful movie :)

Actually they first met in REAL person when Mitsuha went to Tokyo to drop a visit to Taki and meeting each other in the train. Unfortunately Mitsuha met the 3-years younger Taki and obviously he would not know her. But that was a different world line where Mitsuha and others died in the future because of the comet impact. Then after all that, Taki drinking Mitsuha's kuchikamisake, they like switched to other world line and the evacuation of the citizens in the town were saved, happened. It was because of the musubi. If you watched the anime Stein;Gate you will understand what I'm saying. Altering the past may change the future but you will be in a different world line to retain what have changed. And in this case, people in Itomori were saved, instead of dying due to the disastrous comet. I hope you understand hehe

In Japan, twilight is called 黄昏 (tasogare), which originally means 誰そ彼 (Who are you?) because twilight is the time when it becomes dim and hard to identify people in the old days. And actually, there is a scene in the beginning, which Mitsuha is learning this in class. I'm Japanese so sorry if my English is wrong. Love your reaction!!

"That" scene hits you like a truck. I love seeing each reaction to this movie as people try to figure out the plot midway through the first half, and often they get stuff mostly right. It's well crafted that the audience figures enough out to assume what's going to happen next and then the twist gets you. (Also personally while I prefer subs, the dub of this actually pretty solid, there's only a few scenes where I think the choice of English dialogue doesn't quite capture the same feeling as what the original Japanese dialogue was going for, but even then it's still high quality with good casting choices for the voice actors.)

I think I’ve finally figured out why this movie always leaves me feeling so empty after I watch it; it’s the not knowing. And by that, I don’t mean US not knowing. I mean THEM not knowing. Taki and Mitsuha go on an incredible adventure together. They meet through the most fantastic means by switching bodies. Through this, they learn more about the other than one could ever possibly hope to learn from another person by any conventional means. Because of this, and their extended time switching places, they fall in love. They attempt to meet each other, they find out that time has been out of sync and they’re actually separated by 3 years, they learn that Mitsuha died in the disaster with Tiamat, and Taki gives everything just for the chance to save her. They finally meet face to face for the first time during twilight, but it cannot last because Mitsuha has to go back to her own time and Taki to his. They are separated again without the chance to even say goodbye and their memories of each other and the experiences they shared quickly begin to fade, until they are left with only the knowledge that there is someone precious to them that they didn’t want to forget, but they no longer know who that person is. They spend the next several years with this feeling that they lost something dear to them and searching for the answer. Of course, the ending is happy, and they do reunite. They know they have found the person they have been looking for, but those memories are gone forever. It hurts me so much to bear witness to everything that has happened throughout the film, to watch these characters grow and fall in love, only for them to lose the memories of what they went through, for Mitsuha to not remember how she had once died and was saved by Taki’s intervention, for Taki to not remember the journey he went through to be able to see his love face to face for the first time and give her the means to save herself, and for neither to remember the love they shared for so long when they were still barely more than children. To be able, as the viewer, to know everything that has happened, but not be able to tell the characters what their story was is so painful. I’m just glad that, in the end, they did find each other again. And they knew at that moment that they had found the person to fill the void in their heart

9:10 of course you can it has carbs. Carbs = sugar yeast loves sugar and farts CO2 after eating it, creating ethanol in the procces. You can have alcohol from any type of sugar.

Man, I would love to have some friends like you guys to watch these awesome kinds of movies and shows. Even though I think you guys try to predict the movies or shows too much during the episodes or film. but it is also awesome to see the way you guys interperred the information. i enjoy this kind of reactions really much.

Another great reaction video, guys! Looking at the other comments, so many people have recommended A Silent Voice, so perhaps you guys have your next movie to react to! 😅 As well as that, I'd recommend Weathering With You. It's by the same director/creator as Your Name (Makoto Shinkai) and has a similar vibe, while still being different.
