When it comes to top handle chainsaws, I would apply common sense. If I am a homeowner, who may use a top handle chainsaw once or twice a year, the electric chainsaw may be the better option. If the electric saw sits for a year or two, It will still run without issues. Batteries may need some TLC at times, however. If I did tree service cutting for a living & my top handle saw may be used daily or multiple times per day, I would lean towards the gas powered unit. Mixing some gas might be easier than maintaining batteries Most likely, the gas is already there for the larger saws. It's not about which saw is better? It's about which saw is the best for your situation? If a company gives you them for free, own both! 🙂

A perfect use for an electric is when you're up a tree and trying to talk to a ground crew. So good to have quiet then.

Very cool and handy saws. That DCS-2500 is impressive! The break in period is about the only thing I'm not crazy about with Echo. But they last and last, so guess I'll deal with that in trade for a long service life😁

Seem like sweet little saws. My closest Echo dealer is 100 miles away in Spokane so it doesn't really make sense for me. But I do have a Echo cs400 that's a great saw it's just the antivibe that gets me in no time. Good stuff see ya next time!

Good one Joe. The battery seems to be strong. It will be interesting to see the run time on the electric chainsaw. The low noise level compared to gas powersaw would be welcomed in a close-knit neighborhood.

I have a 2511 my first echo. I love that little bugger!! Most my saws are Still and Husky but am taking a closer look at echo. Have a great day.

👍👍 very interesting and surprising. I think you’ll find the 2511 will smooth out with more chain speed, even with the 3/8 lp. Would be interesting to see how much quicker it is with the nano chain.

Both of those top handles saws run good. Im actually impressed with the 2500. Did better than i thought it would.

the reason I’ll never buy a battery top handle saw is because I work in 80-100 temps regularly during the summer. Now before anyone jumps on me I own many chainsaws and various brands (Husqvarna, Stihl and Echo). I occasionally have trouble with all of them from hot starts to stupid little quirks. When a battery saw overheats or is worked too hard they can shut down for a while. Both battery and gas saws can be pushed too hard and bog the saw where the chain freezes up so unless you have a very high torq saw, they both will do that. Batteries are close to being as good but likely 5 years away before I ever consider buying one. They are nice in the sense there is no warming up or pulling a starter cord.

In a previous post I said that my trimmer had a 4/1 gear ratio. After saying that, I checked, and here is the correct information; Zenoah BC221DL, Motor G2KC, 22.5cc, 0.9 Hp, 8.95 In.#, Gear Ratio 3/1, Carb WYJ-36-1.

2511 is all I see pros use, the battery makes sense though as well. Most pros get them ported and they scream.

Good comparison my only problem with electric is in 20 years when the gas saw is still cutting those lithium batteries will have long gone to the landfill.

Awesome review. I love my husky 120i for just small jobs, especially on my processor. Like knots and odd cuts. I think I will look into the Echo electric version.Thank you for what you do for the industry.

Battery is the way to go in the tree canopy imo, no pull starting. Not my experience but tree climbers I have seen in ISA competitions and locally. Get that 2511t broke in, I have a 355t bought from Sawsuppliers a few years ago, with 3 basic mods smoked the 201tc Stihl I once had, anyone can do it in 10min. Lets race them 😆

I would love to see a comparison of the echo battery to a Milwaukee top handle because i have all Milwaukee tools with lots of batteries. Just a thought if you could swaggle one off someone for testing.

I think your delay on the electric ECHO is most likely a soft-start feature. My electric Atlas unit I bought from HF has such a feature and I wouldn't be surprised if the offerings from EGO, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita and GreenWorks has it as well. Because the electric chainsaws tend to be aimed at home owners who use them intermittently for small jobs they're designed to "start gently" so there's no surprises to the user. Especially if it's someone who has never used a chainsaw before. That's just my thoughts on it. I will agree with your sentiments that the electric saws are not exciting to use because there is no crackle of a 2-stroke in your hands. But they are quick and convenient if you have a fully charged battery and you needed to cut something small without waking the neighbors. There is also no warmup time needed and you're not worrying about weather or not it'll start for the season. You just click a battery in and it works. Which makes them perfect for home owners who don't cut stuff constantly. Of course they'll never be a full on replacement for 2-stroke saws. But they're good to have for places that have noise issues or don't allow fuel powered equipment.

I remember that back before Zenoah was bought by Husqvarna, they had a 22cc saw that was advertised as the worlds, smallest saw. Does anyone know about that saw? Was it lighter than the CS-2511T? Is it still made? The only Zenoah equipment that I have ever had is my unkillable stringline trimmer, that lightest and best small engine power equipment I have ever owned. And I have owned a lot!

If I could do life over & lived in a more perfect world, I would pick ONE brand (Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, or whatever trips your trigger) as a young man. If I owned Milwaukee tools, my top handle electric chainsaw would be a Milwaukee. If I owned Dewalt tools, my top handle electric chainsaw would be a Dewalt (or whatever brand I already own). Even if the Echo is slightly superior, I would rather own a brand that matches my current battery packs. I hate my assortment of electric power tools (Craftman/Sears, Masterforce/Menard's, Bauer/Harbor Freight, & various Amazon no name products. I HATE that nothing matches! I hate charging batteries! I hate it! I hate it! Throwing my Poulan, Husqvarana, & Jonsered chainsaws in the back of my Mule along with a can of mixed gas is so much easier. I wouldn't get overly excited about an electric chainsaw. They're all pretty decent. If you already have 5 Milwaukee battery packs for other tools, I wouldn't overlook something like that! I'd rather have the extra battery packs than the new tool.

I wonder if Echo is running the same antiquated electric technology as Husqvarna is on the T545i? In that regard Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee have them beat hands down. Still neat units and I haven't met a saw yet that I would toss in the garbage!
