Subscribed! - Watching your adventures from Bavaria, Germany - think we can all safely agree the attitude of the local authorities is 'out of order'.

Hey James, a Jamaican here. I currently work operationally at one of the international airports in Jamaica so i have a bit of knowledge in terms of what is happening. I would like to express my condolences in the treatment that you are receiving, you have actually come to the island during a rough time. Our Prime Minister, the head of Government on our island has actually implemented a 14 day ban on all incoming passenger traffic to all ports, air and sea. This means that no passengers can be landed in all of Jamaica, not even returning Jamaican residents. Currently this is slated to end on April the 6th, i say currently because it is under continuous review by my government and can be extended if needs be. This is why you are barred from landing. Our country itself has also been declared a disaster area, this means an increased military and police presence island wide in an effort for people to stay home to limit the spread of COVID-19. As of writing, we have had 36 confirmed cases and two deaths, a lot of the unjust treatment that you have received i believe can be attributed to fear of the virus and just how undetectable and contagious it can be. Even if by some miracle you were able to go ashore, you would find that a lot of our services are greatly reduced or closed as there are not many workers apart from essential workers that are allowed out. As for your trash, due to the fact that you havent been landed, you and the contents of your vessel are still international. Your waste, being international waste should be collected and incinerated by our law. However, due to our reduction in services, you can see the problem. I will not tell you that you shouldnt leave, however elsewhere in the Caribbean have been adopting measures similar to what we have here in Jamaica. And due to the nature of the threat, rules of engagement change day by day. You could leave out today to a destination with an open boarder that will close by time you arrive. Your's, your spouse and your fellow travellers in the harbour cases are unique for no matter where you go in the Caribbean at least, you are international travellers that will be subject to visiting passenger rules that the country may choose to implement. I do wish you all the best, it is a trying time for everyone in the world right now. Whatever decision that you make, just do so with as much up to date information as you can gather

Not a problem. Thinking about your case some more, if you choose to wait it out until the 6th of April, you could be allowed entry. I hope you have some document to prove that you have been in our imposed quarantine all this time. Else they might try to justify an additional 14 day quarantine when our international ban is up. See if you can talk to my Ministry of Health for additional information. If you choose to leave, then see if there is a country that has an open border that you can reach during a quick sail. You had mentioned that a fellow sailor was going to Panama, but Panama had shut down their borders from international travel from March 22. I have a friend in Panama that confirms this. I hope he/she has safe passage.

Seems like with hurricane season coming soon, I’d start thinking about heading north. I would think you could get admission into the US. Seems like it’s time to start thinking long term.

Hi James, my understanding is that you are British. If this is the case I would go to the BVI's or Antigua, they have to let you in. Then deal with the hurricane season. I would not stay in Jamaica, too dangerous. As longest you keep distance from people and stay healthy you are ok. Kind regards from France, Christian

My nephew has got stuck in India. He’s finding it hard being told to go home because he's got the virus, etc. We’ve advised him to get in touch with the consulate. I think he’ll be having to deal with the lock down for some time yet. It’s mad in the UK. I personally enjoy your videos as difficult as it is for you at the moment. They put a different perspective on what’s going on in this mad world. You’ve got a beautiful boat! I wish you well❤️

As someone living in Spain I can't give much of a perspective of what things are like in the side of the world that you're in right now, but living in one of the worst hit countries in Europe I can possibly give an idea of what things are going to be like. I'm afraid to say I think you're going to have to get used to waiting on anchor for long periods of time, here most ports are on minimal staff and are only allowed to let sailors disembark if it's a medical emergency or issue of similar urgency. I've read stories of coast guard helping out sailors with food and supplies though so hopefully you'll get better treatment from the locals in other areas.. As to what to do.. I'd say try to get somewhere where the authorities aren't trying to actively get rid of you. I'm certain you already have but if not now would be the time to get in touch with anyone or any communities you know of in nearby areas / countries to try and work out how things are there. As someone stuck in quarantine I'd do whatever I could to help someone out in need and I'm sure there a lot of other people that would too. Good luck with your journey and keep us up to date!

Hi James, I hadn't seen your videos in a while, even though I am subscribed from the beginning. I am caught up now and feel terribly sorry for your predicament. Unfortunately, I do not have any clever advice to help with the situation apart from saying that if you decided to go south you would have a friend in Rio de Janeiro. Nothing lasts forever, neither the good nor the bad. Try to keep a positive outlook. All the best.

Which means, after your 14 quarantine, you should be allowed on shore for provisions, etc... Remember, nCOVID19.

You are absolutely right. They just didn't want to. I guess it comes down to ignorance, racism and megalomania from the marine police

Just since you ask for opinion; I don’t know if what I say is nonsense, and please god , don’t take this as wise advice. I am not there and never had, but I would probably try to get out of there fast. Nobody knows for how long it’s going to get weird, and in such situation, I would prefer to be at the mercy of a more reliable government. You might find yourself in trouble in near future and who knows. Not good you are in their radar now...
