The engine in my little "dog truck" ate itself last month after 288k miles of hassle free service. Other than the boat anchor sitting between the frame rails, this truck is in spectacular shape. It will be about two more months before my engine builder can get to it, but it's worth the wait. Stay tuned for the upcoming videos of this project. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it.

Completely worth fixing! I maintained a fleet of these as property maintenence vehicles back around 2000 before the tin worm claimed them all, miss them dearly. Cheers from New Hampshire.

Totally a wise investment Steve, like you said the used car markets as crazy as the housing market and there only seems to be about 20 new cars at any given car lot around here by me. I can’t wait to see a Bug review after you’ve been driving it for awhile. Great update amigo!

strange it is gasoline, Here in europe they are only in diesel but that car says so much about you steve calm, diligent and comfortable In denmark we have several sayings "no big arm movements" "less can do it too" as with your fine toyota there in all the time I have been following on your channel has served you well B.R. Thanks B.R., I would love to have a diesel in this truck, but they just weren't a thing in the U.S. during this time. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

I had a 84 Celica with the same engine back when Celicas were rear wheel drive. I still kick myself for ever selling it. Definitely worth the rebuild

I just picked up a sweet 2000 taco with 300k. It runs great on 3 cylinders lol, low compression on #1 due to tight valves. Same spec camper shell and all. I finally have my license back and have expanded my handyman business.

Did the plastic guides break on timing chain? Did you ever replace the guides in the lifetime of the engine

Upon tear down, we uncovered that it blew the head gasket. I could have just done the top end, but decided a full rebuild. thanks for watching.

Good video ! You’ve got the right idea there. You got good life out of that motor. Those 18R , 20R , 22R Motors are Great. Good ol little trucks. A Good Long block is the way to go. Have you tried getting a Long block from O’reillys auto parts ? I got a Dodge 360 long block from kragens a while back when they were kragens. Good motor.

I did look at the long blocks at O'reillys, but I really want to keep my original Toyota block and crank. I also would like to keep it all Toyota components.

I doesn't matter. Remember I live in California, I have had two stolen off my vehicles over the years and not a damn thing done about it. This state celebrates criminals and don't do a thing about these thefts.

Wonder how many cylinders kissed the valves... I'm not familiar with 22re's but maybe you could get away with a new head and timing set? Or was she using oil? Hope you're at least enjoying your summer 😅

If I'm diggin that far into the engine, I might as well rebuilt the whole thing. It's unfortunate, I got an 5-gas emmission test done in 12/2020 and according to the read-out , it was running as clean as a new engine.

You're lucky you live in a place where vehicles don't rust heavily, a Toyota like that is long gone on the West Coast of Canada where I live, it would have gone to China for scrap.

Currently at 237,500 miles on mine. I’ve replaced three or four alternators already and now the alternator adjusting bracket has broken but truck still runs fine I just don’t know how much longer it will. I want to see it get to 300+ miles (k). Anyone have advice on where to get a new alternator adjustment bracket? I currently have someone looking from scrapyard to scrapyard cause no parts stores sell them individually.
