My favorite game ever! I thought it would be just a stage based game that you would go from the company to a mission and vice versa, my mind was blown when i left the building and went to the city. Truly the REAL cyberpunk! I'm at work now so I'm going to be saving this for when i get back, looking forward to watching your review son!

@@KratosisGod new game incoming in a max of 7 years assuming no major delays happen but it'll probably be closer to 5-6 years, i figure give em the 7 years to be safe lol now that they're out of Squeenix and under Embracer maybe they'll turn in a better game?? make up for the failings of mankind divided? though IDK how many more sequels they can stuff between human rev and the original game....mankind divided already seemed redundant cus we knew that would be the case for the augs....the story was obvious I mean I felt like everything i did in that was going through the motions and not really making any real decisions.... Human rev had a few places it could go to connect the dots but divided had less room, unles they put us in the role of an illuminati agent doing their bidding knowingly I don;t see the next story impacting much cus there's no room for more... one other plot i could see working is the plight of the NSF? the war we heard about in the first game, that could actually be fun to play IDK be a covert aug agent for the NSF hitting govt facilities & shit?? eh or a Honk Kong game as one of Tracer Tong's triad warriors?? eh it'd be interesting but it's too specific and closed, it wouldn't work....nobody wants to play a street gang war unless it's Saints row or GTA right? so IDK what they'd do but I feel like the real estate of the past has mostly been used up, they gotta tackle the OG or the future at tome point

Actually there is a way to save Faridah Malik [Adam Jensen's Pilot] - Either in Stealth combat or combat walkthrough, you can save her on time before the ship blows. It's also canon that she survives as there is a "Cheeky" easter egg in Mankind Divided where it implies she survived ! [The one where there is a message for Adam Jensen - Fly Boy ! ]

It's worth noting you can actually save Malik, and she'll show up later on in the playthrough as well. It's extremely difficult to do on pacifist playthrough if not near impossible, however.

Well, f*** the pacifist playthrough then. Mercs who want to kill Malik don't deserve to live.

IMO , like many other situations in the game , the appropriate augs and equipment can make any challenge a lot easier. The biggest challenge in saving Malik in a non-lethal run is to get the incapacitated heavy gunners away from the bot when you use an EMP mine on it , so they're not killed by the collateral damage of the explosion. In a lethal run , I drop off the rocket launcher and its ammo in Jensen's office , just for this mission.

I have to say, my favorite conversation is with Wayne Haas. It's just perfection! The music is perfectly on point, showcasing a perfect background sound for a damaged man. The voice acting is spot on, with both emotion and subtlety. The subtle body language they captured is just excellent! Look at how he's taken aback when Jensen says "should I have given you an order, you were always good at those." It's just the perfect little 5 minutes showcasing a cop who was forced to make a difficult decision and is paying for it both in his career and in his mind. *chef's kiss*

I love this game. THe only reason I got CP2077 on launch (despite not caring about it at all, and even disliking the CGI trailer, and other trailers) was because someone said it was like this game, though I got a refund and bought RE:Village instead. (Also Miracle of Sound's New Black Gold song he made about this game is great and worth a listen)

I'm not one for stealth games as I'm typically pretty bad at them but Human Revolution is probably on my favorite games of all time! Sure, it's got its kinks and things that don't make sense, but overall I love the story and aesthetic. Adam Jensen feels like Batman in a cyberpunk apocalypse, slowly gaining new gadgets to play with and new ways to explore. This was a great analysis and I can't wait to see the video for Mankind Divided. Not sure if you'll delve into the spin-off first, which I think is called The Fall? Either way, good show and a great video! Thank you for your hard work!

You know what other theme or philosophical concept that DE:HR also touches on, in my eyes? The Ship of Theseus. If you augment all of yourself, are you still you? The Ship of Theseus discussion would say that no, you wouldn't be, because you've lost yourself in the process. But if you choose to not augment yourself fully, then you're still you. So on top of Transhumanism, I think this would have been a really interesting concept to dive into if they chose to do so. I wouldn't be surprised if during the team's research they would have come across the discussion.

Such an amazing video! Your content and ability to write and tell a story is just so good. You definitely have a gift! I agree with every point you made about this game. I had a pretty great time with it and thought it more than lived up to what a Deus Ex game should be. I bought it day one and was one of the people who expressed frustration with the first boss fights. My pistol was my best weapon since I was doing a stealth playthrough. The first boss was nearly impossible to beat if you just had the pistol. So I and many other stealth lovers had to cheese/cheat to beat him. Your video series on these games really makes me want to replay them. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us!

There was a game in between Project Snowblind: Beginning development in 2004, the game was Crystal Dynamics' first attempt at a first-person shooter and originally planned as part of the Deus Ex series with consultation from original developer Ion Storm. The game eventually evolved into its own product, but retained gameplay elements from its Deus Ex roots. Reception of the game was generally positive.

Another nice video of a beloved game. I will say I'm surprised though that you didn't note the interesting cases where the social enhancer/CASIE augmentation did not work on them, where they can actually tell you are trying to sway them with the phermones. Malik and Zalensky for example. Forcing you to rely on your choices and not get an easy out with them. Doing it to Quinn on the DLC chapter even nets you an achievement for getting busted trying it.

I'm extremely excited for this, as I loved your other two restrospectives. But I'm biased as I adored Deus Ex, Invisible War simply didn't work for me, I loved Human Revolution, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Fall (though it took longer to get into). I've found your retrospectives to be on the quality of Ross' Game Dungeon for Deus Ex (which is extremely high praise). The real controversial take is that I also really enjoyed The Fall, but it felt like a single, small expansion instead of a full game. Thankfully it was priced like a small expansion.

35:55 I have to disagree here. Deus Ex Human Revolution has a lot of connections to the real world in its story, including referencing and confirmation of many IRL conspiracy theories. Instead of talking about the well-known incidents, the writers chose to cover some more modern conspiracy theories. In fact, in all cases just similar to the original Deus Ex, all the conspiracy mentioned in game are true in the Deus Ex universe. Lazarus radio is not a parody of modern entertainers. He is a very good representation of dooms day pirate radio station host. Just to give three examples here. 1. He mentioned on radio that people should not protest outside biotech companies/factories, but should instead go after those on top, which is a common conspiracy theory where governments deliberately bread conflicts with lesser social controversies to cover up real problems and caveats in political system of a nation and make the mass occupied and easier to rule. Turns out we found later in the game that Purity First indeed has ties to the Illuminati. 2. His take on anti-terrorist action is a conspiracy theory that governments deliberately allow terrorist attacks to happen or even engineer them to take away personal freedom through passing more aggressive surveillance laws in the name of fighting terrorism (remember this game came out before Snowden). 3. His mentioning of a space station "Heaven" is a conspiracy that the end goal of space exploration is not scientific curiosity or even financial gains but setting up a paradise and shelter for the ultra-rich to rule over the rest of Earth while capable of avoiding all civil/military/natural unrest on the planet. The name of space station is a reference to Tiangong, the Chinese space station first launched in Sept 2011 a month after the game release, as Tiangong translates to Heavenly Palace. That space station in the Illuminati end scene in Invisible War? Yeap, that is the "Heaven". The main story also covered multiple conspiracy theories. SARS being a biological weapon (an IRL conspiracy theory itself) is mentioned in an email exchange found at Omega Ranch. This conspiracy now takes the form of Covid being a biological weapon. And we know that Grey Death later released in Deus Ex is a biological weapon to control the mass. Global warming is a lie (an IRL conspiracy theory itself) is on wall graffiti in both Chinese and English in Hengsha. And at the end of the game, we found that Panchea, a facility supposedly built to control climate change, is in fact a secret research facility that could control all the augmented population. And lastly the entire engineered glitch in augmentation and a chip to fix it is straight from anti-vaxers vaccination being chemical/nanotech method to control the population. We have all seen this somewhere in recent years haven't we. Mad respect to the writing team capable of leveraging some not-so-well-known but latter-popular conspiracy theories and put them into the game seamlessly. They definitely spent a lot of time on some of the more shady part of the Internet.

Great video and re look at the game, Currently replaying this with 2 x scaling mod to make most of the games textures alot better, Sharper and more detailed, It's certainly a good game for a reboot, Kinda a shame the directors cut version basically resetted performance patches and have to be re done, But it's still a great game, Love the sequel too, Mankind divided 🥰 , Also you can save malik in this, But you have to take out the snipers and heave argmented fast.

Love how the Devs had the foresight with the final boss fight that if the player lugs a Laser Rifle into it with them, they can really quickly finish it off, because glass barriers do diddly-dick to stop laser weapons.

I have to wonder what he thinks of Hbomberguy's critiques. Yeah he's just some other KZfaqr, but still, a 3.5 hour critique of DX:HR is certainly something that could change the public discussion around a game.

Like your content man. I would only suggest that you break up the narration with some in game audio along with the clips you show. Just a thought.
