Our son was active duty U.S. Marine from October 2001 - 2011. Our niece and her DH each retired with 20 years at ages 43 and 44. My FIL’s older brother was a Marine on aircraft in the European theatre during WWII. Niece said that every Marine, male or female, goes through Boot Camp. The idea is that if there is a need, each Marine knows how to pick up a rifle and use it effectively. It does not matter what the person’s rank is.

I'm a veteran of the Marines and a black man that grew up admiring my uncle who was a Ranger. My little brother grew up watching me and he's a Marine today. He did 4 tours in Afghanistan.

During WWII, the Marines used New Zealand as a marshalling area for the Guadalcanal Campaign. In other words - from the US to NZ first. Then assigned to units and trained as to what they were to do. Then on to Guadalcanal.

FYI: The Marines retired the M1A1 in 2020. The F-35B is operational and had seen combat with the Marines.

My moms rank in the Marines was a lance corperal - my dads rank in the marines was a staff sergeant. My moms marine corps vet and my dad is a Retired marine. Growing up was interesting as we went all over the USA. Growing up as a child I just was so well protected being on base. My favorite base was in California as we went to Disneyland a lot. That was one place that holds a big place in my heart. Reason was because when we were at Disneyland I knew my family was home and no one was deployed. The longest my dad was deployed was 2 years. He was in Tokyo - my mom kept us in the USA and we stayed in NY.

US Marine here, if you want to check out the marines in real life training, we training every year with the Aussies somewhere around Rockhampton in Queensland. If I remember correctly it is around March or April, you wouldn't be able to see an actual storming of the beach like we do in Korea but playing in the desert is fun too. Also, this list is now outdated as the Marine Corps is giving up all of their M1A1 tanks as it was decided that they are not in keeping with the "mobility" aspect of the Marine Corps. Sorry to see them go as they were amazing machines, but it makes sense.

When I was in the Coast Guard I used to go to the shooting range and we had a couple instructors that were former Marines and they always noticed that I did a lot of stuff the Marine Way and we would just chat and I will tell him my uncle taught me how to shoot a couple of things he was a Marine and I just got on good terms with him

In answer to Atlanta's uestion from an earlier video on the US Marines, there is a lot of humour in every armed forces branch. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one. If you can still use the airplane afterwards that's a bonus. From RNZAF ground crew: Q: "What's your job"? A: "I'm in the airforce". Q: What do you do? A: "As little as possible". And, there's this one that paratroopers get asked. Q:"Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane"? A: "Because it's more fun than jumping out of a burning one".

Sam, you seemed to like that Harrier...a family member used to fly them. When he came for air show, I went, watched, bought him lunch (though he probably would have had a better lunch inside the air-conditioned hut), and took him back to where I was sitting between his runs, so he could pick me out of the crowd. You would have thought I was with a rock star! The people around me were so excited, showing him video of his first run, etc!

I worked on Harriers when I was in the Marine Corps. I loved working on them and loved watching them perform. It was an honor to be a part of their history.

#5: Light Armored Reconnaissance is what I did from 2006-2014. It's not easy but one of the most unique and best jobs in the Corps that not many know about.

So when I was in... I lived off base... about 5 miles from where the tanks battalion did training... I had to have everything that I had on my walls.. tied to a screw..then screwed into the wall... and window calways just open a little bit... so when tanks were training.. my windows didn't break n things on my walls didn't fall off... the first time my mom visted..in the middle of the night she ran n woke me up... scared to death.. "we're being attacked we're being attacked" ( cause the house shakes when they train) I told her to go back to bed.. it's just training lol you get used to it I told her... my grandpa..my dad.. me.. several cousins and 3 of my kids are Marines.. it's in our blood!!

This is an older video, guys, though it might be new to you. The AV-8B Harrier is out of service in 2022. The Marines use the F-35B Lightning II That can also fly vertically, like a helicopter. Even the rifles that the infantry were using at the beginning have been replaced at this point, but I am bad with gun names, so I can't say which type they are using now, sorry.

I watched one video from America where this old marine was being pushed around and told to sit down like a dog. Coming from a young trooper over there. Farrrrr man me heart broke for him. I wanted to do the haka on that troopers face. Sucks how their old ppl are treated there, Gets under my skin because their young ppl have no idea what they had to fight for, and where they fought and coming back to home soil and being treated like that. Sucks. Respect to you old fullah. Hope you doing well.

I’m a marine and they discontinued the Tanks, but I’d say what we are best at is communicating, shooting, and moving fast. What we do is we clear an entire base, and then the army will move in and stay at said base for security, and we move to the next objective. And we can work with practically nothing we adapt and overcome

When he mentions the role of the Marines as working in conjunction with the Navy, this was true even in 1940-1941. On the USS Arizona, the Marine Detachment of the battleships crew were incharge of manning the secondary guns in casements along the side of the main deck. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Arizona was destroyed by an modified 1,757 lb armored piercing shell from a high level Japanese bomber. Of the 88 Marines stationed on the ship that morning, only 15 survived. 52 remain entombed inside the ship.

Semper Fi. My dad was Spearhead 5th marine division. Iwojima. WW2 purple heart. He was commander of the VFW Through Nam and Korean war. Our mountain home was always a place for vets. Miss him every day since he passed in 1987. A character in every way, bass voice, big as a mountain, tough as nails and fathered us 9 kids with one nut due to being sniper shot downward from the spine during an 17 day march. He was 18 at the time. Which was probably why none of his kids grew up to fear much. All 7 of us girls shoot as well as men and ran grain sacks up the hills on our backs. Rode horses and mules. Lol. His cowboy hat, boots, and his ability to play anything he picked up... A stare that was far off some days, after doing his duty for another fallen. Salt of the earth. A rare breed, who called many men brother and son. I was honored to carve his headstone myself as the youngest, put my own words in poem when he died and now he lays in the topmost mountain field where his horses once ran, under the american flag, watching over mom + all our siblings who have passed and rest around him. When I go back to upkeep the homeplace, tend the graves, as silver haired myself now, I stand at his stone looking down the mountains with the mist in the hollow rising, there aways seems to be an eagle flying overhead, as if it, watches over him now. My Nephew is an Afghanistan marine vet. When I married my USAF NORAD hubby in 79 you can imagine the fun dad had with that. My brother was army. My gpa WW1 his father was Gen. My American heritage is Shawnee, Blackfoot, Scot, and sub Saharan, about 3 others, we are true American mutts back to 1600 called Melungeons. I had 2 uncle's never return from Europe WW2 fighting Hitler. So that was my interest for 30 years of study. European and middle east history and eventually early American. I think we are all brother and sister mutts given our ancestors come from everywhere.

Just wish our government treated soldiers better after service.

I spent 7 of my first 10 years in the USMC deployed aboard a ship. I absolutely enjoyed being deployed afloat, even after getting married. When we were deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, I recall feeling a bit lost, and complaining that we were being deployed as a land force...which we were NOT. I retired after 24 years of service.

An enemy Capt. once screamed at his surviving Men for being defeated so badly. One of his Men said, "But Sir you don't understand. It was a trick, there were two of them." Semper Fi Brothers. Let's go Brandon!

Wish militaries and wars weren’t necessary but since they still are, I sure am glad that we have by far and away the strongest military. From the marines to the army to the navy to the coast guard to the air force to the new space force it would be hard to stand up against it. Not to mention 95% of the world is our friends and generally take orders from us.

I am Army. I served in the Army and while I respect the heck out of the Marines and will admit that they might be better at a couple of things. The Army has MORE toys in newer/better condition. Things that could work better for ur terrain. Matter of fact I served in Alaska at the post that does the Arctic and Mtn Warfare Training for the services. Course I give my Marine friends a hard time. Telling them that the Army does more by 6 am than they do all day.lol And that we get in, get out with the job done right and get home b4 they ever start. lol And in general they are called the Navy's army. One of the things I like about Marine Training is they do not ever try to hide that ur a soldier/infantry 1st period. The job that signed up for say Accountant etc. is their 2nd job. And that they can be pulled immediately into infantry positions at a momments notice. While the Army does train infantry from the start u know that what u will likely be doing most of the time is your MOS/job. Which means its not in their mineds that they might have to fight at a moments cause the battle lines have changed. I think Marines always have that gungho attitude that the infantry guys have to have and that mostly the Army has that in those that do the infantry MOS/thats their job as compared to training to be a mechanic. Some in the army think that because they are an Accountant they will never see combat or even if its a job that could be close to combat that they will never see it cause they are behind the battle lines. That is not the way war works. And the marines as a whole are better prepared mentally and physically for that. Heck the Marines even have a PT test they have to take b4 they go into combat that is different than what they take when they are not in combat.

Here are some fun facts 1. A tank gets 4 to 6 miles per gallon/liter of gasoline/petrol. 2 the Marines are the first to go into battle and help set up parimiters. 3 a famous general once said " an army marches on its stomach". Make sure your soldiers are well fed. I think it's cool that Denzel is wearing a shirt with tigers. There is a famous air force group known as the Flying Tigers.

My daughter is a Marine. She graduated boot camp in October 2001, right after the Twin Towers were attacked. My daughter was in boot camp when the twin towers were attacked and I know there were a few kids (Marine Recruits) who had parents in the Towers. When this happened they locked down Parris Island. On graduation day, us parents had to go through car searches to make sure everything was secure. It just so happened that when my daughter was on Parris Island the Discovery channel was doing a set of video's called, "The making of a Marine". They have now mixed her time there with newer recruits videos and made it into a big video...It is on KZfaq. I actually got to see my daughter in many scenes while going through boot camp. I even got to see her being screamed at.....hahahah..... They let us parents buy these video sets on graduation day then they shipped them to us... I still watch them every now and then. My daughter was a different person when she got out of boot. it totally changed her. After boot camp she was deployed.

Was on a Gator Frieghter for a tour. This is the nickname for a LHA, o Amphibious Assault Command Ship. AV8-B’s all day long, and LCU’s out the well deck to take the M1 Abrams tanks to the shore. Watching the Harriers land never got old. Even got to be onboard during the initial trials of the V-22 Osprey, which was fun to watch that beast try to not hit the side of the ship!

My Uncle Bob is a retired Marine DI (drill instructor) he also spent 4 tours of duty in Viet Nam. He earned two Purple Hearts. He is one tough guy even now well into his 80’s. The funniest story I have of him is this. When he was in his early 60’s he worked nights at a factory and when he got off one night, he stopped at a small gas station. Two young thugs tried to hold him up. Notice I said tried. He removed their weapons,beat them then bound and gagged them! Then continued to fill up his gas tank all the while kicking & cussing them out before calling the cops! Oh did I mention they both had knives. When the cops showed up he was still cussing and stomping. Both thugs spent three days in the hospital! My uncle specifically trained his men in Hand to hand combat while he was a DI! Oh my word yes Marines are tough (and have a unique vocabulary…very umm colorful when upset)! If anyone has a spare moment send a prayer up for him he was recently (6/22) diagnosed with cancer (yes related to Agent Orange from Viet Nam), thankfully treatable and a heart condition that needs surgery!

We fought for New Zealand in WWII and have no problem fighting for you anytime you're in trouble or need us. We are called The Few The Proud yet we seem to be everywhere, just make friends with a few Marines and you are a Marine family and we protect our family always. NEVER FORGOTTEN USMC

I lived out by the 29 Palms Marine Corps training base and used to watch them train from my house. It was awesome!

My Brother was a Marine for 22 yrs. You use to be able to come to Fort Knox Kentucky and watch training at a certain time of your, It was a show they would put on for family's. When I was in my 20's he kind of snuck me into a secure area and let me get in his A1A Tank......so cool!!!!!

On the AH-1Z when the narrator stated that it was capable of Hellfire missiles, the picture was of the ordinance crew reloading a 2.75 in FFAR (Folding Fin Aerial Rocket) pod. Those winglets the pod is attached to is capable of carrying those pods, or the Hellfire missiles, and on the tips 1 Sidewinder missile each.

My husband served 27 years in the USMC until a helicopter crash and he lost his left leg below the knee. He now has a prosthetic leg that has USMC and a Devil dog on it. Marine’s are called Devil Dogs, Leather Necks and Jarheads. So proud of our Military. Even with a prosthetic leg he says he would defend this Country today. Of coarse they wouldn’t allow it but that tells you how proud of the USA and how much they would defend the Wonderful Country. As you can tell I am proud of my husband!❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

With the recent release of first data from the James Webb Space Telescope has your lovely family considered videos about outer space? That's a lot of really cool science, technology, and engineering that has gone into and been developed from human activities in space. Not to mention the world famous Rocket Lab in Auckland!

It is very impressive just like our other military branches. I've lived very close to Ft.Bragg NC and those of us that live in neighborhoods that are near the base & firing ranges we hear those machine guns & the big tanks blowing up targets out on the firing ranges anytime of the day & night. Which sometimes we have to straighten up our photos & paintings on the walls but u get use to it & only notice the big noises like when they are blowing up old military vehicles & tanks, etc... we even have large open ranges for our planes(C-130, C-141, C-17(they drop palettes of cargo & supplies) to Warthogs, & other fighters jets to drop bombs on targeted vehicles. Once many decades ago they weren't hitting the target that was painted on the range as they usually did so the commander put his jeep in the target & said the 1st ones who hits the bullseye 🎯🛺🍕🍺 wins something like pizza & beer for after work... 1st round went up & they all hit the jeep the 1st time trying & smashed the jeep FLAT. That's how the story went anyway, 😄😆😍💙💚🙏👍

Those last vehicles, I have seen some of them up close and watched them driven at top speed around a test track. The ones I saw were the General Dynamics Stryker, 8 wheeled LAVs.

The thing with the Viper is, its versatility makes it ultra deadly. The Apache isn’t equipped with Sidewinders-it only gets Hellfires, which are air-to-surface and it’s left vulnerable to fighter jets. Sidewinders can make all the difference. That said…if things on the ground are really going down hard, there’s one of the pairs of angels that can be called in, as you guys have seen both of. The A-10 Warthog and the strafing Angel of Death, the AC-130 gunship.

Great choice on the video. My Grandparents and Gruncle (Dad's Mom, Dad and Uncle) were US Marines in WWII. My Grandfather was a 6'7" Scout Recon Sniper in the Pacific theater (your neck of the woods), my Grandmother was a clerk and my Gruncle (Grand uncle) was in the European theater. I've worked w/many Marines as a DoD Contractor Instructor and I can say their skills are impressive. Some fun facts about the USMC's Expeditionary unit an Amphibious warfare vessel can carry 2,000 or more US Marines, w/4- AV-8B Harrier II's, 4- UH-1Y Venom utility Helicopters, 2- AH-1Z Viper Attack Helicopters, 4 to 6 CH-53 Super Stallion Helicopters and if memory serves 10 to 12 CH-46 Sea Knight Helicopter or the MV-22 Osprey Tilt-Rotor. It also holds 4- LCAC (Hovercrafts - Landing Craft Air Cushion) that Transports the non-amphibious vehicles, i.e. M1-A1 Abrams, Hi-Mars (Rocket Artillery), etc..... Everything the Marines need to fight. If you can find a Video about the Marines Amphibious Warfare vessel or my favorite US Navy S.E.A.L'S boot camp.

We also have Expeditionary Sea Based Docks and Bases as well. They are ships made off an Oil Tanker Keel but they allow Marines to have easy staging and loading capabilities over the horizon outside the range of an enemy and then use LCAC's to deliver troops and equipment to shore without needed to take over an enemies' ports/docks. Its a capability no other near peer adversary has with in our Navy Sealift Command. They can also have Osprey's land on the flight desk, pick up troops and take them in to shore.

You should know a couple things , we have several knicknames that come from our mission 1) Leather Necks : this comes from the reveloutionary war where Marines wore thick leather collars to protect our neck when engaged in battle with sabers. 2) Devil Dog : this was given to the Marine Corp by germans who survived the battle of the bulge in WW1. They said " The Marines fought like "Dogs From Hell" thus the term Devil Dog is a moniker we carry proudly.

I think the boot camp for the Marines is the toughest one to go through. The military is a good option for young men right out of high school if they are not going to college and don't know what they want to do. It builds character. A lot of the job skills they learn can be transferred to the job force when they get out. A lot of Marines make it a career and stay in for 20 years and retire with a pension. Yes, the Marines will protect you.

I was in the marines 1979-83. And I was part of the test battalion for the lav light armored vehicle back in late 81-82 at 29 palms California

It’s interesting as a former marine myself to see how our corps is always adapting to the times. Our command saw before the current confit in Ukraine that armor was going to have to change in our role so they got rid of our tanks in favor of bolstering infantry squads with anti tank weapons and drones according to some articles. It makes us more mobile and better equipped to handle any threats. We have less funding than the other branches but we make up for it in our determination to fight to protect our brothers and sisters and that is what makes us so lethal.

The absolute best "ribbing" was between the sailors and marines. As a US Navy vet(aviation) we worked with our Marine counterparts everyday in the training command. We fought like siblings but always with respect. We joked, partied and got the job done!!!! Shout out to all my Marine Corps friends.
