Nigerian governors have more powers under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) than they are exercising, foremost legal luminaries, Messrs Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) and Femi Falana (SAN), have said.
They advised the governors to take full advantage of these underutilised powers, while the fight for the restructuring of the country’s governance structure, to devolve more powers to the states, continue.
For instance, Agbakoba and Falana challenged the governors to begin to exercise their constitutional power to make inputs in the appointment of the Inspector-General of Police, which they had till now abdicated to the President.

madam Morayo for the Federal government is trying to pass the blame to the state governments. when they planned to remove subsidy, they didn't put into consideration the limitations or the negativity and proactive enough to check the state government. we were saying it at the start ooo but... We are waiting for second term campaign package... "hope renewed actualization" 😊

It all comes down to Nigerians themselves. We should elect decent and responsible people into the legislature. We know the characters that coke out to run for legislature. We know they are not worthy of such responsibility, but we still go ahead and vote for them. Decent and quality individuals in the community never have the opportunity to get into the the legislature. In short, they can't even go pass the parties' primaries, not to talk to the main elections. Until Nigerians learn to exercise their voting power beyond just casting their votes but also defending it, nothing will change. With all the mess of INEC in the last election, one would have thought that Nigerian will have started to demand for changes to our electoral laws and systems. No, no one is talking. How do we expect different outcome from the past when the same laws and systems are still in operations?

I have been saying it for a while now,Nigerian governors are the biggest problem in Nigeria not federal.Ok now states have the power to generate and distribute electricity, how many governor have you seen, heard talk about generating electricity? They would rather keep quiet about it so that people dont rise it as an issue.Nigeria supply gas to Benin republic,Togo and ghana for electricity, yet the state governor can not build generating plant in nigeria. They have the power to go into large scale mechanized farming, how many has ever done so?The governors loot due to lack of vision.Having access to so much money but lack the ability to use it to create wealth for the state. Not until nigerians forget about federal and start holdind their state governors responsible for everything, including bad federal roads in the state don't expect anything to change anytime soon.Even if the governor claim it's federal roads, people should not just accept that,it is the governor responsibility to make sure bad federal or state roads in the state are fixed.Thank you.
