I'm 16 yrs old with a close knit circle of friends whom I trust greatly, but I recently had an epiphany. I was thinking that I'm not promised these friends forever, and therefore my approach to these friendships should be taken much more seriously. I created this phrase that I try to follow every day: treat everyone today as if they are going to die tomorrow. Though it seems morbid, this has helped me cherish every passing moment with my best friends. Try this mantra out and see if it works for you also.

Disagree with your take on silence. True silence is death. It is the vacuum of space. Even if you were to go to northern Washington, you would be the noise. The beating of your heart, the faint sound of your breathing, your movement in the forest. Noise is life. Life is chaos that eventually returns to the uniformity of nothing.

But death isn’t silence. Even when you’re in a coffin, your body is making noise when you decompose. Or, the bugs and such, while your body is deteriorating are still making noise. Even when you’re a skeleton, you have creatures that are crawling in and out of you and surrounded you. Just because you can’t hear them, doesn’t mean they don’t make noise.
