Anna Akana You are such an amazing artist and creator it is really inspiring. I love the mixture of realistic high school issues and intriguing drama that’s still believable even though it’s embellished for effect. For once there is a multi dimensional take on high school and the issues teenagers have to deal with. If I had this to watch in high school I would’ve gotten even more from it.

Anna, not only was this a moving, engaging plot line, you did so much right with this show that regular shows aren't brave enough to be. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. I can see the years behind this, and I can only hope there is more.

That does appear to be the case. I find the hostility between Grace and Farrah seem to be a bit asymmetrical though. Farrah, although she sounds bitter when she says she's cool with it, does never really takes any actions against her, or anyone. Meanwhile, Grace's defining characteristic is essentially her opposition against Farrah. She takes her friends, acts like her, and flirts with Will, while Farrah's attention to drawn to other problems. I feel like their interaction with letting Hook "volunteer" left them on a bad note that didn't have to happen. As I was watching the show, I thought there would be some background on Grace about her past to explain her need to be like Farrah.

I agree w/ you - I feel like Grace's total 180 from nice crafting/baking girl to mean pretty popular girl was weird and unjustified. Also am I the only one who found it unrealistic for her to suddenly have so much social confidence after a few days with Farrah and her friends??

Popularity -- and power -- is a hell of a thing. When you go from a nobody to a someday that quickly, I think HOW you react to it says more about your character than anything else. And that's essentially what Grace was -- someone who was finally in the spotlight and realized she LOVED it, that it was intoxicating, and that she'd do anything to keep it. I'll admit, there are moments in my own career where I suddenly have felt like hot shit and let it get to my head. So I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss how quickly she became confident and bought her own hype. It can happen ;P

Popularity is such a HIGH that ordinary kids that are wallflowers can not handle.

The whole series starts with school and ends with homecoming, so I can only imagine this took place in one or two months, starting from the beginning of senior year. But still, a pretty quick change in her character.

Yeah she would know and would be able to do something, but Farrah wasn’t thinking about it like that. She didn’t want to get the principal involved because she knew if she did the whole laptop spying thing would come out and she’d lose her job. Granted yes the principal STILL could’ve done something to stop it all before getting fired/sued/etc, but Farrah’s whole thing throughout is doing things herself and trying to not harm anyone she cares about in the process. Everything would come out, the guidance counselor thing, the spying thing, she was thinking about the bigger picture and how their individual lives would be hurt. I guess the only way for a season 2 would be about Farrah learning to open up and the secrets? But idk I don’t think an entire season would be dedicated to that
