@andrewgodly57394 жыл бұрын
@@arminiuschieftainofthecher2780 But when that happens then it's no longer anarchy. Basically it's just another state or empire. In that sense we already live in anarchy and all the current states are just brutal empire's trying to dominate the mad max wasteland. Which actually kinda makes sense in a philosophical way and he would have a point if that's what he meant, but I doubt it. Anarcho usually refers to an organization or community equally distributing power among all members, thus no one has more power and becomes the ruler. Anarcho capitalism is an oxymoron as capitalism is naturally unequal in power distribution, it's like saying anarcho-monarchy or anarcho tyranny state. For me they went hand in hand. The time of my life I spent depressed and crippled by mental illness were also the years I spent listening to Sargon videos and the likes. I was dragged deeper and deeper as my depression grew, but with eventual help from therapists and medicine I managed to beat the depression and get my life back on track. Its almost spooky how when I snapped out of my depression, decided to be a better person and to reinvent myself I also changed my view on politics and other people. I realized that almost all the opinions I once had that I thought were based on logic and fact was infact based completely on emotions.

Same. I have a really hard time explaining how i got out of it. It was a mixture of things. It started with "this line of thinking isn't going to help me", "blaming these people isn't going to help me", "no one is going to help me, i need to do something about this". I also realized that the content was so repeated and redundant. I unsubscribed from thunderfoote once i realized his content was just going to be repeatedly criticizing Sarkeesian. Then it was a progression of unsubscribing from people who made the same fucking video over and over and over. In the end, it was a mixture of self help and getting tired of hearing the same things constantly.

I suspect that the folk who most need to see these videos - those prone to being persuaded by BPS and his ilk - won't have the patience to digest the thorough detail Three Arrows puts in. I'll also second the idea that alt-right sympathy is not a universal symptom of depression. There's a myriad of reasons for causal depression, in some cases, observing the current influence of alt-right politics and the ease with which some individuals buy into the ideology can be a real downer. And then there's the idea of strictly endogenous depression (which coincidentally plays well with producers of anti-depressant pharmaceuticals)... Certainly, extremists will often try to take advantage of people who are lost in life, and/or so desperate to belong that they'll even embrace hateful paranoia, but not all of us are THAT desperate. My self-esteem might hover around rock bottom now and then, but this doesn't mean I'll degrade myself further by looking uncritically to xenophobic ideology as a panacea.

Portraying them as equals in this is kinda disingenuous don't you think?
@CSGraves4 жыл бұрын
@JeanClaude Clemenceau I agree that donning rose coloured spectacles is, in the long term, not helpful. Telling 'white lies' should only be a last resort to avoid self-destruction (or other-destruction for that matter), but carries the risk that the individual's ego may not survive the possibility of disillusionment further down the road. When one feels low, how tempting it might be to believe they are part of a "chosen people", inherently superior by birth! One could go from self-hate to resting on the laurels of merely existing in a heartbeat! One of the major downsides to this is having to constantly and artificially reinforce the mindset, not unlike Charlie Zelenoff insisting on his supreme pugilistic skills, no matter how many times he gets knocked down. I'm not averse to intellectual effort, provided it isn't wasted on such ideological dead-ends for the sake of self-worth.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and say the left does not have a monopoly on censorship. Book burnings in WWII take all of a nanosecond to spring to mind. The States even had book burnings, those of the work of WIlhelm Reich, for example, as well as attempts by conservative Christian groups to ban various titles. Note also the antebellum refusal of the US Postmaster General to carry abolitionist materials. Or the journalism ban during the invasion of Grenada in the 80's, the press restrictions during the Gulf War, the invasion of Iraq, or George W. Bush's censorship of climate studies. Pity that your excellent reply was lost by youtube and this one is all that was left behind, but the argument that only the left practices censorship is demonstrably false. Per Japanese racism, how happy were the Ainu people, when discriminated against by the Wa-jin? How happy were the 'comfort women' abducted from abroad and abused? A burglar may be happy to loot your home, a murderer happy to end their victim, but this happiness alone does not qualify their acts as good.

@Crawford Hogan Oh, he sounds lovely: "Samuel Todd Francis (April 29, 1947-February 15, 2005), known as Sam Francis, was an American paleoconservative, writer, and syndicated columnist in the United States. "He was a columnist and editor for the conservative Washington Times until he was fired after making allegedly racist remarks at the 1995 conference of the group American Renaissance.[1] Francis would later become a "dominant force" on the Council of Conservative Citizens,[2] an anti-black, anti-immigrant group that espoused racism.[3] Francis was chief editor of the council's newsletter, Citizens Informer, until his death in 2005.[4] "Scholar George Michael, an expert on extremism, identified Francis as one of "the far right's higher-caliber intellectuals".[5] The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks extremist groups, described Francis as an important white nationalist writer known for his "ubiquitous presence of his columns in racist forums and his influence over the general direction of right-wing extremism" in the United States.[4] Analyst Leonard Zeskind called Francis the "philosopher king" of the radical right,[4] writing that "By any measure, Francis's white nationalism was as subtle as an eight-pound hammer pounding on a twelve inch I beam."[6] Scholar Chip Berlet described Francis as an ultraconservative ideologue akin to Pat Buchanan,[7] to whom Francis was an advisor.[8] Hans-Hermann Hoppe called Francis "one of the leading theoreticians and strategists of the Buchananite movement".[9] To Jared Taylor "Francis was the premier philosopher of white racial consciousness of our time".[10]"

I often genuinely feel really pessimistic about the future of my country, the UK, but for the exact opposite things that BPS blames for causing the downfall of Britain. A very right wing government is in power with a large majority, the Coronavirus is killing a lot of people, we've left the EU which is going to cause a lot of disruption and economic damage, and so many people have been laid off. A new wave of post-virus austerity seems likely. It just seems like this just isn't one of those countries where things can get better. A man who has trafficked in racism and homophobia all his life, lies endlessly and without remorse and has only ever failed upwards was rewarded last year with a solid 80 seat majority. A new malaise era is coming and the best you can do is tend to your own garden, like at the end of Candide.

@JohnnyTheWolf I think the reason y he is enamored by Japan is 1. Pretty lights and anime 2. Unequal treatment and restricted opportunities for women 3. Just to hammer home how repetitive BPS' content is, look at his thumbnails that are included in the video. Of the videos talking about England: -Two of the seven share the exact same thumbnail, with one other that has the same thumbnail but pallet swapped to a different colour -Two feature the exact same image, with the only difference being that the stylized text on the image is chaged -And two that aren't quite as similar as the others, they do however both feature a memeified image of the Queen Of the 11 videos about Canada: -With one exception, they ALL feature Justin Trudeau in the thumbnail -Two thumbnails feature the exact same image of Trudeau, with one other that I guess is from the same photoshoot because he is in the same clothes, just a different pose, but that one shares the exact text with one of the other two -The picture of Trudeau shaping a heart with his hands appears twice -Three videos share the same thumbnail even down to the text, with the only differences being colour changes and the stylized image of Trudeau being in a different position in each of them -And while we're on text, the phrase "Current year" appears a total of SEVEN TIMES Its also worth noting that of these videos, (both the ones about England and Canada) of which there are 18, only six don't go above ten minutes (and even they get pretty close so I guess he really couldn't stretch those ones), and all the others are only at best a couple minutes longer, with several being barely seconds above the ten-minute mark. It's pretty on the nose to constantly use Spengler. He was a Royalist and Nationalist that thought Democracy was the end of the world. He didn't like the nazis much but he thought Mussolini would become the next ceasar to rule europe. The Nazis on the other hand really liked Spenglers work (though you have to add that they later did burn one of his books because of open critique on the nazi party). That BPS talks about him all the time should prove how much overlap Spenglers ideas had with those of the nazis.
@aleksandar17244 жыл бұрын
Spengler captures a nostalgia and melancholy with a romantic lost youth mood that is appealing to the reactionary mind in general including conservatives, religious and far right people. Socialists and liberals that expect a imperialist capitalism nuclear war or climate catastrophy doomsday clock often like Spengler, too. Probably all people with a high affinity to negative emotion.

The West clearly seems to refer to white people in this context. Central and South America are located in the western hemisphere too and just as North America were heavily influenced by European culture and people. But because the majority of the population in these regions is not white (and yes, there are white people) they are usually not thought of as “Western”. Uruguayan here. While true, it should be noted that our political traditions are much more radical and underlined by anti-European and anti-US sentiment, in the first place because we're breakaway colonies from Portugal, Spain, Italy, et cetera, but also because we remained relatively uninvolved with the allied and axis forces during the second world war, and later got fucked over hard by the US's red scare period ending with a dozen democracies and republics being toppled and going through periods of established pro-capitalist dictators. Oh, and none of this is to mention how in countries like Bolivia and Ecuador, there's enough natives and ex-slave populations that the culture is just not white. Tl:Dr there's complicated political reasons for south america not being the same as "the west"

The idea of the West (note the capital) tends to be used in a confrontational terms and only really include major powers which is why Central and South America are usually excluded since they have not really been part of the grand alliances. Even more then the exclusion of Central and South America the strange thing is since the end of WW2 Japan has been considered part of the West by most people. Well except the outright racists of course who do not even consider non white citizens of Europe or North America western but includes Russia in the West.
