Well, the closest thing to a 1950s KZfaq was a series called "You Asked for It". This episode contains a wrestling chimp, African-American pianist Ivory Joe Hunter, the secrets of card sharks, archery, and a blackface act (considered "nostalgic" at the time). I think the network this aired on the DuMont Network (which no longer exists, though the FOX network is a corporate successor in some ways)

my Grandpa (Frank Ruth) was on You Asked For It! he was the operator for Elektro the robot. he appeared in 2 episodes. I actually have a few outtakes where he holds the controls into the audience and lets them push buttons until it breaks, where he promptly starts swinging the controls by the wire.

You noticed when they put the spoon in the jar of Skippy Peanut butter it kinda poped out showing how dry it was. You can imagine what it would do trying to spread it on bread.

Wiliam Tell shot was faked! The camera was positioned behind the archer with no view of the subject. After the shot, the camera changed to the apple with an arrow thru it. Never actually saw the shot.

Can't say for sure, but I did wonder why they didn't show a side shot

@@joeambrose3260 Yeah, when they do something like this, they usually have two, maybe three angles of the stunt being done. On the show, there was knife thrower who did part of his act blindfolded and they did it with at least two angles.

This is only my opinion, but I'd say the reason for faking the whole bit was because this show was broadcast live, and they were being overly cautious about a possible accident during the stunt.

Disgusting. Everybody gets nostalgia for "the good old days" but they forget, the past was the worst! Prejudice, segregation, diseases rampant, no advances in medicine and other commonsense things we take for granted! You can keep "the good old days", I'll take the future any day!

@@illusionistMunawarMuzaffar I apologize if this information is readily available somewhere and I am just not aware of this. Do you know where I might be able to locate and purchase? In addition to looking for this specific clip/episode for my 76 year old mother. in the past, i had searched long and hard for a short little movie that my great uncle ( Gene Ivaldi ) had been in as a child. The way my great aunt and my parents explained this to me was back then, during the golden Era of Hollywood there were these little groups of child actors. The most well-known one being the "our gang" group which later turned into the "little rascals". I will have to ask my great aunt if she remembers the name of his group, but it was thought that his group was called " the chili peppers". My great aunt has a few photos of him and the group taken on set during filming of the little movie. She thought that the movie was titled something like " On the mic" or something like that. Anyway, several years ago now uncle Gene had been diagnosed with cancer and I had really hoped to find the movie and be able to give it to him as a gift. Obviously I never found it and he passed away many years ago now. ( I miss him so much! He was so kind, fun, and loving.) While searching for the movie, I was told that a LOT of the film from this time frame had not been saved or stored properly. Even if the intention was to save the reels, it degraded over time. Someone had told me that some film had been destroyed in a fire as well at one of the major studios and I think MGM was the studio. It has been a long time since I was searching so my memories are a little fuzzy now. I apologize if this comment is a bit of a long ramble! I am babysitting my great niece and I am rocking her in attempt to get her to take her nap, lol. My mom remembers her step dad writing in to "you asked for it " to request the show do an episode on the lord's prayer being written on a grain of rice. She said that she can't remember if the show did air his request or not, so I am looking for that one too, if it exists.

@Cliff Yablonski I remember this one as well, but as reruns in the early 1960s. No studio audience, just the host on camera, then with filmed sequences of what had been asked for.
