Happy Birthday to my amazing son, Ari, who fortunately inherited his mother's athletic genes and mental toughness as a competitor. I gave him nothing but good hair (head and facial). Tough race. But no one gets back on a horse after a fall like Ari. xoxox Dad

Hey Ari! Mad props for not DNF'ing! Sometimes you just have an 'off day'... but way to take in stride and make the best of it. You're Awesome Dude!! Keep fighting the good fight. And Keep the Faith. I'm predicting you'll be in the money next race!! An athlete (like a gem) cannot be polished without friction and the trials of life.

Great video. Appreciate the humor in the first half and the candidness in the second. Plenty of us AGs have shit days so nice to see the pros are just like us. Keep grinding away.

Bro, been following the channel since the procard. I always appreciate the raw emotions from your first race finish with your parents to mid run here. That's the reality of it. When you push hard your emotions are so volatile. Keep at it, remember your worst days are still way better than many will ever achieve. Keep putting in the work and live the dream.

Really appreciate you sharing that! We've all had tough days that screw with your mind. One way to get straight is to see that even those who are 1,000 times better than you struggle at times, also.

Great video. Unfortunate outcome. Keep grinding. Can't believe there's batteries in shifter systems now... this really has gotten to far. The basic functions of the bicycle should be as robust as possible - a dead battery costing you the race is unacceptable.

I asked last time but I don’t think you saw it. How can you be sure you are getting the right split with your strug pro? How do you know when you take a scoop you aren’t getting 75% malto and 25% fructose?
@archmdz
@archmdz 7 ай бұрын
Highly unlikely (read: nearly impossible) if it was mixed properly that the ratio would change. Malto and Fructose are of extremely similar density and granularity, it would defy the laws of probability and entropy if the contents shifted that drastically.

How much swim training do you do in your FULL race suit ? My daughter is a national level swimmer and for weeks leading up to big meets they train in full suits. She uses older suits but will do at least a couple of sessions in her new suit.
@archmdz
@archmdz 7 ай бұрын
I swim in my wetsuit most weeks. Wetsuit with race kit underneath, almost never. But I don't feel that was much of a factor at all here.

Ari, I have a question been meaning to ask you for a while now. How is it that your training numbers and pre-race confidence are so promising but on race day things go terribly wrong so many times. I am curious as I find myself in the same place as an age grouper. Your feedback would be most helpful.
@archmdz
@archmdz 7 ай бұрын
Going to do a video on what exactly went wrong next. To be fair, this year I've had 2 solid races, 1 poor race (nutritional lapse there maybe), and 1 really really poor race (this one). Last year I had 3 solid races and no poor ones. And there are extraneous circumstances for this one, the coaching change being the main one so the preparation was extremely different than usual. So I was 5/6 in my last 6 70.3 races in terms of feeling I raced to my fitness level. If you're constantly feeling you fell short of your fitness level in races, the most likely answer is you're training too hard and/or not being honest with yourself about the effort levels in training. E.g. it's pretty easy to do "3x20min @ 70.3 power" way above actual 70.3 power and inflate your idea of what you can do in a race. Not having a good nutrition plan could be another issue.

Ari don't get too down on yourself. And don't put too much pressure on yourself in your next races. If you follow the process and perform within your limits for each event you'll do well. Remember your run is your strength, if you get off the bike with good legs and run like you can you'll pass lots of people. For the Indian Wells race I think you swam too hard. You did not look good coming out of the water. And being stuck in a 58-13 gear ratio is crazy. You completed zapped your legs for the run. One thing that concerns me however is when you mention that during the race you sometimes feel like not wanting to be there and not wanting to fight. Those thoughts have to get eliminated. They will drain your energy. Good luck in 2024. Keep in mind you have not been doing Triathlon for that long. It takes 10 years to reach your pinnacle.

Outdoor riding sucks in Seattle in the winter. Absolutely sucks! I agree though, leading into a race it's not ideal to be purely on the trainer. For every race except Indian Wells given it's in December that's not an issue.
