The drowned spirit (which looks like the toe sucking lady if you take away all the blue and dropping imo) is friends with the pervert spirit in Riley. They immediately knew the pervert spirit would like him and then manipulated Mia so they could *all* keep him, after all there were multiple spirits in the purgatory horror house torturing Riley. So, I think the toe sucking loops the audience in that the drowned spirit is a pervert too and definitely doing horrendous things to Rileys spirit when not dressing up as Mias parents.

I am so glad they took an “Exorcist” approach with it. You build the suspense with the story, and then you pay off that suspense with drawn out lingering scenes of intense discomfort and horror that then builds on the story to set up the next set of scenes that will build suspense for the next intense scene. It’s always nice to see a horror movie take it’s time and be confident in it’s simplicity. If this were any other horror movie it’d be like “Suspense, jumpscare, loud and obnoxious chase sequence, okay, next scene where we’ll repeat the same nonsense” It’s so refreshing to see an actually good horror movie for a change.
@GuineaPigEveryday9 ай бұрын
Yes exactly! The Exorcist approach is such a good way of describing it because it feels extremely refreshing (but also in-line with A24's horror track-record) that the movie depends on character/narrative rather than purely shock/gore/jumpscares. Which might sound simple but it is really a problem with big studios who feel like audiences are too impatient for that and usually underestimate their intelligence. Like most genuinely affecting horror movies of the past, the horror in Talk To Me is created from atmosphere and rising tension, punctuated by good practical gore, but also us being super invested in the protagonists, and feeling sympathy for them, understanding their motives and actions. Idk this movie might not be for everyone, and I might be rambling, but I did genuinely leave the theatre a bit reeling and the movie lingering on me for a while. Wasn't expecting the movie to feel so thoroughly full of passion from the directors, so glad RackaRacka have such fantastic energy that passes from youtube videos to film.
@builttoscalevideos9 ай бұрын
@@GuineaPigEveryday for me I know it’s a good horror movie if I’m still thinking about it days or weeks later. But yeah, “uncomfy” horror is the best kind of horror for me, like I’m okay with supernatural stuff being present in a movie, just make it believable so I actually feel for what the characters are going through.
@bleachedforeskin14318 ай бұрын
Talk To Me was so good I had no idea it was a youtuber movie! It makes sense that it felt so in touch with how teenagers actualy act and especially the use of social media and phones, since youtubers would be very familiar with that. Really great messaging about isolation and grief and how that can be exploited, in this case by the supernatural.
@rodrign0075 ай бұрын
Why did you like it so much? I saw it last night and hated it. I could tell right away it was a metaphor for addiction though. I just didn’t like the execution
@pattym918216 күн бұрын
@@rodrign007 What do you mean "why did you like it so much?" The very first sentence they say is "Talk To Me was so good I had no idea it was a KZfaqr movie!" And the rest is literally an explanation as to why they liked it so much. Or ya know, if you want an answer from someone who doesn't bleach their foreskin like the original commenter's name suggests, you could just watch the video itself? I mean if you HATED the movie and are hoping you'll find an explanation that somehow makes sense to you, you're not going to find it. I mean yes, the addiction aspect is certainly there, but in the context of the movie, can you say it's an addiction when she lost her damn mom and is grasping at the only way she believes she can see her mom again? That's called grief, dude. Again if you hated it, then you hated it, and that's what makes us all different. I am seeing thousands of comments saying THIS movie was as good as The Witch, or the VVITCH, which to me was the most slow paced, boring, uninteresting garbage I've ever seen. And yet I don't go around telling people "what on earth did you like about it?"
@rodrign00715 күн бұрын
@@pattym9182 god damn why did you get so worked up over my question? I genuinely did want to hear a good thing about this movie that I could agree with but I think all the writing or the characters sucked except for the best friend and the main character was annoying as hell cause of all the dumb things she did and she never received a real punishment for it. I thought it was about addiction but now that you bring up the point of grief it actually makes a lot more sense to me. So you were right but you were also wrong: someone giving the movie correct praise can actually make me rethink my opinion on it

Charles perfectly describes how horror movies are supposed to be directed. Thriller and horror flicks are very closely-related because they do the same thing - build tension. The difference is in how the genres deliver that tension.
@jynckx9 ай бұрын
I saw this yesterday after seeing a snippet of this video and decided to go in blind. While Charlie has points of critique to this movie, I cannot praise it enough. Mainly cause it’s a directorial debut in a pretty saturated genre. Which doesn’t mean in any way I don’t appreciate Charlie’s view on the movie. On many points he was bang on. Without spoiling the plot, my take on this movie was that it referenced a lot of themes from our society today. Substance abuse, addiction, being socially exiled, depression, broken families, … all the while being presented as a well put together horror movie that doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares, but basically had me on the edge of my seat, spine tingling, start to finish. While the cast was extremely good, extra praise has to be given to the lead girl and the young bro. I did not know their names or if they have any previous well received roles, but they knocked the ball into the stratosphere. Also, THIS is how you present a diverse cast in a movie, without making us wanting to gauge our eyes out.

Honestly one of the most surprising directorial debuts I've ever seen, especially for a horror movie. Being disappointed with a majority of horror releases lately, this is one such a breath air. The ending was phenomenal too. This might be in my top 3 movies of this year, I can't wait to see what they do next.

Racka has already proven that they are great at creating dark, horrific and crazy entertaining stories in all their normal videos lol.

There’s still so much movie ideas. Skinwalkers, slender man, getting in someone’s dreams and facing nightmares, urban legend movies, I hope these small creators can make these movies possible

I love horror movies, good and bad I usually go see anything spooky related twice or more but Talk to Me actually got me and I think it’s going to be a one and done for me. It wasn’t making me scream the whole time but it hurt me deep down out of sympathy and existentially.

The sucking toe bit i think was meant to show which soul possessed the guy when he started smooching the dog
@cysinkaaewoods559 ай бұрын
I think the toe sucking scene shows how ghost are not always about hurting or scaring people. I imagine that spirit had some fetishes when they were alive so it makes sense they would still have them…

I just watched this movie. What I love the most about it is that they touched on 'the devil made me do it' trope without actually saying it, unlike a certain movie. I realized what happened almost by the end of the movie, and I like it.

I started following their film after seeing the first trailer and the video of their Sundance premiere. I’m happy that they were able to make the film they wanted without studio execs breathing on their shoulders. Danny, Michael, Sophia, and the entire cast did fantastic things with this story. A24’s horror lineup may not have been as good compared to a couple years back, but they acquired (not produced) another banger for their filmography. 😌

wait, this was a youtuber movie? damn, i saw it at the theater last night and it was awesome. i’m not surprised that the creators are known for gore & action though cos there was _plenty_ of that in this film 😅 edit: also i totally cried lol and yeah the toe-sucking thing was fucking hilarious. i kinda interpreted it as an intentionally scary _and_ goofy scene - like, it would be terrifying in real life, but it’s still kinda funny to watch in fiction (esp when we see what’s really going on - iykyk) cos, y’know, it’s toe-sucking. it’s never not funny

My one problem with this movie is the whole hand part... It's the definition of "stupidest horror decisions" as who in their right mind would fuck with a hand that let's them connect with the dead and it's legit and has countless witnesses and videos etc? It is a literal natural selection moment and it forces me to not care for the characters who fuck around and find out.

i highly doubt hollywood will care but i do hope they will notice that people with lower budgets are outstepping them and take corrective action (that is a hope, not reality) but i think the ones going to be more pissed will be netflix. they waste so much money on shit shows and shit movies that a bunch of youtubers making movies with not only less money but with less resources in general and making bank as a result will likely push them to trying to get youtube to punish them for making them look bad. that or netflix will actually attempt to give a damn about their reputation but honestly what do we think is more likely to happen? if anything, this will probably cause big executives to push back and restrict who can make movies by paying our oh so lovely congress into passing a law forcing all film makers to work exclusively with registered or licensed producers and studios only in an attempt to end all indie films who could embarrass them. and if the film is shot outside of the U.S they will fight to restrict those films in an effort to save face. its crazy yes but hollywood and netflix have proven countless times that they will go way beyond regular means to get what they want.
