To be fair, he was being outplayed by Odion, and probably should’ve lost there, and only won by being the “last man standing”, so in a weird way, it feels rather fitting, an undeserved loss, in the same way as his undeserved win. With that in mind though - yes, Jody’s character arc suffers for it, and our man was robbed of his W.

The issue is the same. He’s only a best friend material if you both are assholes. That’s why they never see a problem with it both are jerks. He hides behind his buddies after he throws his ego at Kaiba who is there for Mokuba and Kaiba stomps him. He’s the friend that wants his buddies to fight the battles he loses. And then gets pissy when he treats him like an asshole and is denied a trip to Florida. There’s a reason Kaiba respects Serenity and not her brother.

Also, Rebecca is an underrated character. She is one of the few people who are actually good at this game, especially by real life standards. All of her decks involve an actual strategy, gameplan, wincon, and backup plan. Even when using Janky Duelist Kingdom Rules, her gameplan was effective, use Canon Solider to burn, and when/if that fails, summon Shadow Ghoul and ungabooga what is left of her opponent's life points. But the bear example is her using Nurse Burn, bloody Nurse Burn (which if memory serves was one of the best decks in the real game at the time) and plays it pretty much flawlessly. Whereas by comparison, Kaiba aside, almost all the other main characters threw a bunch of shit at the board that they liked and see what stuck. Which made for fun duels, but doesn't change the point I am trying to make I feel. Also, Kaiba flexing on German Pegasus is one of the greatest things in Yu-Gi-Oh.

The Duelist Kingdom arc for Kaiba was about him being able to put his pride aside. Prior to Duelist Kingdom, out of pride he sought out, and destroyed the only other Blue Eyes card in existance, so that ONLY he could use it, making blue eyes almost a symbol of his pride incarnate. He then lost, perhaps because of his pride, to Yugi. In duelist kingdom, he's there to rescue Mokuba for the most part. When he threatens "victory or death" to Yugi, he's throwing his pride away so that he actually has a real chance to save his brother. That's character growth. Duelist Kingdom was also his first step towards accepting the idea that having a social group to fall back on was maybe better than relying solely on his own power. In Battle City, this expands into him being willing to take part in a tag shadow duel with Yugi, and work together. In the Orichalcos arc, filler or not, he basically sacrifices himself at the end, making it possible for Atem to get his head back in the game to win. Then, before the final duel between Yugi and Atem, Kaiba truly accepts the idea of teamwork, and offers to help Yugi get any cards he needs for his duel. I couldn't see the Kaiba in Duelist Kingdom, or early Battle City doing that.
@forgototherpassword
@forgototherpassword Жыл бұрын
Also, forgot to say that when Kaiba challenged Pegasus, he originally planned on making Pegasus use the prototype duel disks to throw him off for an advantage, but gave that advantage up as well to ensure his brothers safety, further stamping his own pride for the sake of his brother.

The reason why things are the way they are in the last arc is because the OG writer didn't complete his writing of it. There was meant to be more context between Atem and Seto but he never got around to finishing it. So the show had to go off of what was there.

Doesn't change the fact that the original 1998 anime and 2000 anime had an agenda to alter his story (characters and events) from the manga so from the very beginning, his vision was not respected and a remake is required. Because his story was butchered, it caused a chain effect that led non-Japanese/Asia fans to make ignorant statements. For example, because the anime staff altered Takahashi's version of Yugi vs Atem, Atem is forever known as a cheater since he was drawing cards at will against Yugi when that never happened in the original manga duel. Which is why a faithful remake needs to happen to correct the past mistakes and educate people on what really happened. Yugioh is one of those series where people refuse to read the manga outside of Japan/Asia so it is another reason why a remake should happen.

so yeah in the manga duke devlin's father was cursed a long time ago after playing a shadow game with grandpa and he raised duke to take revenge on _little_ yugi and win his millennium puzzle and that's why they play dungeon dice monsters (also because it's about being the king of all games and doesn't really have anything to do with duelist kingdom at all), also it doubles as the pre-battle city episode although it doesn't introduce marik yet because it does feature the scenes where evil bakura appears and helps yugi while sealing a piece of his soul in the puzzle and a scene where duke's dad knocks over a candle and yugi has to be rescued from the burning building while piecing his puzzle back together etc

My childhood was literally defined by rushing home from school, doing my homework as fast as I could to be done by 3:30pm to watch yugioh and then going to my friend's place to do other stuff we both liked, be it outside or later gaming related. I even liked capsule monsters enough to build my own out of frickin toiletpaper rolls and such. I got into yugioh again somewhere between GX and 5DS when it was popular at school and went undefeated with a zombies deck I build out of two structure decks and a bit of trading. Good ol' Wall of Illusions, Fissure and Traphole carried me hard :)

Pegasus's story is even more tragic in the manga. Although, his motivation and the story beats are pretty much the same, Pegasus does not have the luxury of living his life to reflect on his past sins and pain like in the anime. In both the anime and manga, Yami Bakura offers Pegasus another chance to get a millennium item if he beats him in a duel. However, in the manga, Yami Bakura straight up kills Pegasus to claim his prize. it's sort of fitting for Pegasus though. The man who was so focused and stuck in the past has no future when his plans fall apart. Having lost his only chance of possibly getting his back, he no longer has a reason to live because his wife was his life even in death.

Kaiba getting the 4th BEWD made sense because he didn't want anyone else using his iconic card against him. They were also no other easy to summon 3k monsters, with all of them being Gate Gaurdian, Black Skull Dragon, Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth or BLS. It was completely unrivaled in Season 1, and even in Battle City basically unrivaled in it's class except against something like Buster Blader but still had great support with Flute of Summoning Dragon. When Pegasus and Joey took Kaiba's Blue-Eyes, it was huge, even Yugi using Dark Magician with Spellbinding Circle was a hyped moment, and Yugi also had to use Blue-Eyes to win against Ghost Kaiba. If Kaiba let someone run around with a card of equal strength, Kaiba would have died from a lack of sleep. His ego in season 2 was obtaining the other God cards because he just couldn't allow other characters to have equally strong cards.

For what it’s worth, Alexander the Great did take over Egypt, but in a lot of ways, he was liberating it from the Persian Empire that had conquered it, and ushered in a cultural renaissance of Greco-Egyptian culture. The concept of what subsequent rulers of Egypt did with the Millennium items is actually pretty interesting. Shame they didn’t do more with it.

Except a train is more expensive than a basic ass plane trip. Just looking right now (July 10th, 2023) a flight from SanFran to Miami is $170, a train is $413. I’m not saying they’re dumb for making their mistake, I can understand why they would assume a train is the ideal way to travel it’s everywhere in their part of the world, I wouldn’t expect any American writer to know the ins and outs of transportation in Japan, so why would I assume a Japanese writer would know that about the states? Huh. Been enjoying this video immensely, but your take on the DDM episodes genuinely surprised me. Personally it's been one of my favorite parts of the original Yugioh, filler or not, ever since I was a kid. From the game's mechanics, to its visuals, to Yugi's awesome winter outfit, and above all, the idea of showing how well and how quickly Yugi can adapt to any game (even if it's done in a suspension-of-disbelief kind of way that doesn't make sense. whatever. The same can be said for the vast majority of his Duelist Kingdom matches as well).

Capsule Monsters is actually great. Not the anime part, that sucked ass, but the original capsule monsters first showed up in the original manga when Yugi faces Mokuba some time after Yugi beats Kaiba for the first time in the series. It then lead to a PS1 game and a VERY short lived board game, the 2nd of which was the reason behind the anime adaptation of Capsule Monsters. Try out Capsule Monsters Coliseum. Its such a fun game and really is a hidden gem. Lots of great animations, gameplay, and voice lines.

This video was pretty solid. I'm glad someone is finally publicly acknowledging Season 4 was actually good. A bit sad that you skipped over the entirety (minus the last fight) of Capsule Monsters because that was actually really good. My one thing about this whole video was the incessant and random comparisons to irrelevant wrestling events. Like, why? I was increasingly annoyed by it and a lot of fumbling from your narration that would've been better if you re-recorded the lines. Other than that, thanks for a solid rundown of the original YGO DM anime!
@WoodstockProd
@WoodstockProd 10 ай бұрын
The fumblings on narration I probably should’ve corrected those. I do all the recordings in one take unless I REALLY fuck up, so I tend to not notice the little mistakes until I’m playing back things back during editing and at that point I figure it’s easier to just say oops instead of going back and fixing things. As for the wrestling references, that was just a thing I did for fun but people seemed to really like it so I’m probably going to keep doing it honestly
