We are wired to empathize more on a personal, relatable level. It's the fact that it occurs to individuals rather than a large group of people in addition to experiencing more of the details. When you hear about hundreds of people being killed in an explosion it's certainly horrifying, but it isn't as uncomfortable a feeling as hearing about what a serial murderer or rapist does to their individual victims because we can imagine ourselves in such a situation. It's psychological, as much as I agree in terms of how the slaughtering of many is far worse then just a few.
@YamiBakuratheThief6 жыл бұрын
Hearing about a village miles away being wiped out is sad, but being the only survivor who KNEW all of those other villagers is WORSE. Being outside looking in, yeah it's bad. That may be a solid point, but counter point.... we're talking about ancient egypt here, they'd sac villages as a sign of force regularly. In modern times (outside of wartime) murder is a big deal, so 10 modern murders far outweighs 1000 "sacrifices" in ancient times. The fact the village was known for being the home of murderers and thieves even makes it a police action/ a culling of taint on the empire, which while frowned upon, was a necessary service in such a large empire in a time where dissenters and trouble makers could mar and destroy an empire that was centuries in the making in mere years. All that said, it still shoulda earned a spot on the list if only for the gruesome way in which they were sacrificed... but that whole arc was hardcore in ways even season 0 did not dare to go.
@PhulaTrox4 жыл бұрын
I'm actually so surprised at how the dub handled this. I expected more of the soft dub which is too scared to even show death but they actually tried justifying it by arguing that the village had "evil people" in it.

In the technical sense, yes, but I think the transition to the "Duelist" part of the manga still felt a bit jarring. Not as jarring as going from season 0 to Duel Monsters, since those were handled completely separately, but still jarring. I don't know, the way Duel Monsters was (re)introduced just felt different from how all the other games were introduced earlier in the manga. To me, the game explanations earlier in the manga felt like when someone tells you about something they're enthusiastic about, whereas the introduction of Duel Monsters at that part of the manga felt like product placement. Maybe because that's actually what the difference was. But I should end this comment before I end up ranting about my frustrations over how Yugioh was hijacked, I've already gone on a long enough tangent away from what your comment was about... :'D

I thought your video was great. Those 10 top dark moments are mostly on my list too. The only one I'd like add is a scene in the Bunko Edition of YGO vol.21 where the author Kazuki Takahashi adds a scene in the Memory arc that he ran out of time to publish in the original run. Where Priest Seto's father, Priest Aknahaden (I know I spelled it wrong) burtally murders a guard that tells him that Pharaoh Atem was alive after suffering a fall in a Diaha with Thief Bakura. Sad thing was the guard was so happy tell the news too, he got rewarded by his superior killing him in a fit of rage. Also none of us should be shocked at the darkness of the YGO manga. Especially Kazuki said an inspiration for it was JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Probably Part 3 more specifically as they are traveling to Egypt, playing either Soul-snatching or life/death games with Stands that are similar to Ka Spirits in YGO. BTW sorry but the Bunko Reprints aren't available in the US. I had to order mine from Japan.

I remember some of these scenes like the Marik’s father scene. I also remember other pretty gruesome scenes like them showing how the image on Marik’s back was created and his back full of blood during the scene, there was a couple of pretty extreme scenes with the millennium eye and some others which I can’t remember lol. I missed out much of season 0 though since I bought the manga because of the anime so I bought the volumes involving anime scenes. Funny thing is I read the yugioh manga as a kid and I was perfectly fine, if that happened today there would be a lot of uproar about these stuffs lol.

"Chopper Man" seems like an amalgam of Jason Vorhees and Texas' Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface. His crimes allude to Jason, but his design and weapon of choice seem more linked to Leatherface. Amazing video, btw!

the season 0 moment that i always come back to is the doctor who put his golf game before his patients and was creeping serenity's nurse. him & yugi played indoors golf for proof of the doctor's misconduct as usual yugi wins and the good doctor's penalty game was that he got dragged off to hell by the souls of patients he blew off life saving surgery for in favor of his golf dates.

I would also like to see your 11-20 list for this subject because I noticed the major lack of Bakura and the Big 5 (except [I always think of them as there cards/personalities] Jinzo, the scare tactics guy). I read up to the point of maybe T-5... they had just shown pegasus and such so I was thinking Duelist Kingdom was next so I had stopped. I do not remember any Battle city moments like Pandora or Marik coming up though. I say this jokingly, but it still is a little true, one of the dark moments to me is them showing Yugi playing the sock game and his mom walking in on it... obviously not that dark at all; however, it does disturb me on multiple levels that he was that bored and lonely... and by showing the mom it makes the question of who is yugi's father part of the foreground because she does not look like him really at all but nothing (as far as I know) is ever mentioned about the father... those kind of questions always bother me at the deepest level of my being. I may have been influenced by my mom more and I do treat my father distantly due to lack of similar interests, but the idea that parents are not relevent does not make sense to meat all for anime and media in general (OK not in movies where the story needs to be direct as possible). How is it justifyable in a 80+ chapter series or a 13+ episode season to not devote one picture/moment/flash back/panel to showing the parents an in the place of longer stuff like 20+ episodes and the like a "what did they do" answer. I must know otherwise I cannot really get to know a character. Hence forth I normally like MC's less than villians because villians get more backstory.

4:50 In that shadow game it really felt unfair. Like he was going to lose points no matter what he said. If he said he was greedy he would lose points because of sinfulness and if he said he wasn't greedy he would lose points for lying. Moreso all of Shady's questions were closed questions with only 2 answers. I really hate that when it feels Shady is just tormenting him for the fun of it. If he is already decided to be an evil person who should be killed why not just get on with it?
@autensilnamedfork15996 жыл бұрын
as far out as things like Chopman are, it would add so much depth to the yugioh world. It's more than just card games and friendship. I'd like a highly skilled duelist who promised the winner of their matches rare cards, but kills them if they lose.

Gozabor Kaiba killing himself cuz he lost his company to Saito. Now I think about, I can understand why Saiton threaten to kill himself at Duliest Kingdom if he didn't win against Yugi. And that's still extreme and pointless way to go cuz YuGiOh was planning to save everybody when he beaten Pegasus so...Saito got some pridful from his father after all...

I thought yami marik was just an anomaly in how messed up he was, but man. The manga is crazy
@Ramona122003 Жыл бұрын
There actually isn't that much different between any of the 'Yami' characters since they're all sadistic in the manga, at least before Atem calmed down. The main differences are Atem wasn't evil, he's just insane because he was conscious the entire time he was sealed in the Puzzle for 3,000 years which wrecked his sanity. Yami Bakura isn't so much insane but purely evil since he's basically Zorc. And Yami Marik is both insane and evil since he isn't really a person but all of Marik's negative emotions.
@kuromajutsunokishki76 жыл бұрын
starting with the premise that I didn't read the first seven volumes and the duelist! manga (not yet, but i watched the anime in japanese and, weirdly enough I've read the millennium world manga already) I always saw the start of duelist kingdom as a soft reboot,in fact from that point on the manga progressively loses most of its darkest aspects...this happens even to some character such as mokuba, seto, shadi and yami yugi himself; in the millennium world manga we reached a point where the dark aspects are less than ever (there are still some tho, like the father of seto ripping off his millennium eye) and yami yugi has basically become a pure hearted hero. I tend to endure pretty well these dark stuff and I think the most important reason why the first yugioh was such a success that the spin-offs never menaged to reach (until now, at least) is that yugioh duelist and millennium world were a balanced combo of mystery, creepy stuff, magic items, monster design, characters design and personality and friendship. the spin-offs lost many of these and, unavoidably, yugioh lost personality and fans(still the spin offs aren't bad shows at all). Last (sorry for the long trip), I wish Takahashi took more time to introduce more characters each having a millennium item to treat yugi and co., and to give the items different powers and to explain better the rules of the yami no games...thank you for the video yugioh everything! you and everybody else, what do you think?

#9... His cigarette fell out of his mouth. I read the opening to the manga so many times. And what was even darker was Yugi either didn't care or didn't know what just happened because he complained that he didn't get to eat his burger. Come on. He had to smell the burning flesh. God the manga was so dark, but I loved it. Also Season 0 had some polishing since during the Dragon Cards/Block chapters/episode, in the episode Imori lived... He did not in the manga.

This video is GREAT! But it finally made me ask a question that When I first saw Yugioh years ago it was Season 0 in the manga but in the US so I notice something where changed and or left out, but that isn't my point and or question. I have to ask, What is the deal with the Pharaoh spirit? At the very start the guy had a dark streak that made you not wanna look at him the wrong way, only thing that saved ya tend to be not putting someone in danger and messing with his friends. Now if you are going off the way he acts in the start of the manga. I can then totally see why people come after the guy later on. But what is the deal, was he that hardcore in life and stuff just got changed later when it became more about the card game?! Just feels like a lot of the time when you look at season zero that there was this totally different idea for Yugioh that all got changed, BUT when you get back near the end of it it feels like they left a lot of elements from season zero that would totally make you understand why people in the past might have and still do, hate the Pharaoh.
