6 Stanley Cup rings is no fluke, the first one had to be the most special of course but also the 1990 Cup when Messeir was now the clear leader was a swell and winning the one w the Rangers he actually seemed more excited than ever about that. Best leader in sports ever

I don't understand why announcers are instructed to say Messier was a tough player. He couldn't fight at all and couldn't take a hit?! Watch video of him during pile ups or scrums and watch how he quickly pairs up with a little player or a euro that has never thrown a punch in his life. He also throws tantrums after he's pulled away from a scrum by a ref as if he wants to fight but when he's in it he never fight! You'll never find a video of him dominating another fighter in a fight. He simply could not fight and threw his elbow to a players head when they were going to hit him. He was a flat out pussy. He passed the 2nd round just 3 times in 16 years as a Captain! That's not great! He hung around from 1998 to 2004 missing the playoffs in each of those 7 straight years and put up an average of just 15 goals and just 42 points in each of those years! Thats pathetic! He selfishly hung around just to surpass Gordie Howes point total! What a selfish prick! Oh yeah he was on cocaine his entire career!

Oh I forgot, he wore deceased Wayne Makis #11 even though Wayne's family and the fans begged him not to and I'd say his scoring 10 to 15 goals and 40 points each year didn't go over well either huh?! Look at messiers number during his last seven years. Selfish prick should've retired when his legs did in 1997. I wouldn't go that far. But Messier really never got his do. He was probably the best all around player ever. Gretzky was far from a great all around player. The best offensive player the game probably will ever see again. Messier was over shadowed for many years. All he did was everything:)

I think Messier has one of the top 3 hockey careers of all time. He has been the winningest player since he came into the league, had a lot of individual success, and is considered a legend in the game. Only a handful of players are in the best career conversation, and that includes Mess, Gretz, Lemieux, Sid, Howe, and Orr.

I really wish Wayne Gretzky had stayed in Edmonton for an extra year. Then, we would’ve acquired Gretzky directly from Edmonton in 1989 and he would’ve been the one captaining us in 1994 to the promised land, while we would still have Messier and head coach Mike Keenan. Also, that means that John Vanbiesbrouck would’ve been starting in net for that Rangers Stanley Cup winning roster.
@broadstreet21
@broadstreet21 3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't have worked out that way. Had Gretzky stayed in Edmonton one more season, he would have left in free agency for Los Angeles. Unless New York outbids them.
@jasonarokiaraj9817
@jasonarokiaraj9817 3 жыл бұрын
broadstreet21 sure it would’ve. If we had benched Glen Hanlon for John Vanbiesbrouck in game 2 of the 1984 playoffs against the Islanders, we would’ve won that series and gone to game 7 of the Final against Edmonton. Then, Gretzky would’ve stayed in Edmonton for an extra year and we would’ve gotten him in the 89 offseason, instead of Los Angeles. Then, Beezer stays with us in the 93 offseason and up until retirement in the 2003 offseason.
@broadstreet21
@broadstreet21 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonarokiaraj9817 So, are you suggesting that had the Rangers beat the Islanders in 1984, they would have beaten Edmonton in the Finals? Even if they COULD have beaten Edmonton, which would have been like the NHL's Miracle on Ice (I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get my point), would Gretzky have stayed until 89 just to win a fourth Cup?
@jasonarokiaraj9817
@jasonarokiaraj9817 3 жыл бұрын
broadstreet21 no, I never said that we would’ve beaten Edmonton. In fact, I think we would’ve lost to them. However, what I do believe is that with Beezer in net, we would’ve taken that series to a game 7 and we would’ve lost that game 7 by a score of 2-1 and Gretzky would’ve won the Conn Smythe.
@broadstreet21

During the Oiler Dynasty, I had a season ticket; standing at ice level, between the Edmonton/Islander benches when they announced Mark had won the Conn Smythe Trophy, as the playoff MVP. His older brother Paul, came onto the ice, celebrating the dethroning of NYI's great Dynasty and the beginning of the greatest of them all! The Ranger would've never won that '94 Cup without those 7 NY Oilers...fact! They didn't rename St. Albert Trail, Mark Messier Way, for nothing. The Moosiah Rules!

Gordon Wogberg Wow great memory for sure. I was an Oilers fan for that series. Your getting off the point a bit. I never said that the trades made between the Oilers and the Rangers did not contribute greatly to the Rangers winning the Cup in 94. I merely answered your original post question as to why Mark Messier is always shown wearing the Rangers uniform.

Someone want to talk about why Gretzky is still considered the GOAT of the NHL? He may have more points, but Messier, besides being second (now third) place, was a better all-round player. And if Mess was a superior leader, what other claim to the GOAT throne does Gretzky have? Furthermore, when you discuss other sports, likening Gretzky to Jordan is not appropriate. With his intensity and superior all-round play, he probably ought to be likened to Messier.

That one time, was the first time in 50 Plus years for that franchise, New Jersey in New Yorks Mongoloid cousin. No one cares about what you are saying. Theres nothing a twat like you can say to diminish a single thing that Mark Messier accomplished over his career. Not one thing. You don't get that or waht? Is your bum still hurting over something Mess did to your team way back when? Hey, Scott Stevens has no problem with Mark Messier. Know why that is? Because they both served in the same "war". They respect each other as professional athletes. As all the top guys do. They both know what it takes to be as good as they were, and they know that you don't know anything. Not anything at all. Yet the gums keep flapping. It's pitiful. Someone shoukd change your diaper, get you a bottle, and put you to sleep. It's over kid. It's been over for a long time. The history books are written, your team lost. It's ok. Cry it out. You'll get over it eventually. Poor little fella,

Mark Messier, Leader, Champion, Legend. They forgot Steroid pig. 1998, no Mark on the Olympic team (Canada couldn’t have another Ben Johnson scandal). He was the Jose Canseco of the NHL. From the fourth line to the first line in one season, you do the math.

I heard the 1941 Rangers team took the wrong train to practice and wound up in a concentration camp in Poland! That's why they weren't heard from for 54 years!

#5. Bobby Orr #4. Wayne Gretzky #3. Mark Messier #2. Gordie Howe #1. Mario Lemieux Yeah top 5 all time should take into account everything. including Lemieux's extremely adverse conditions and the fact Gretzky is a "one trick pony" and that Orr redefined defense so everyone mimicked and the next generation was better.

Yeah Mario left the game when he knew it was time unlike messier did missing the playoffs 7 straight times and averaging 15 goals and 44 points in each of those seven nightmarish seasons! Messiers skills went faster than his hair! MSG = Messier Sucks Graves!

The Habs won eight cups during Orrs 12 year career in that pathetic expansion era league! In a nut shell Orr dominated in an AHL quality league filled with bums! Orr is not a top 20 player! Lidstrom, Ray Borque, Potvin, Stevens, Steve Smith, Robinson, Doug Harvey, Rafalski, Neidemayer, Pronger and so many more blow Orr away! If he was such a good Dman then why is Cheevers mask covered with scars? Nobody was blocking shots! 3 beats 2 SCOTTY the real #4 STEVENS!!
