I left Russia over a year ago, and since then I've covered a lot of Russian propaganda and heavily discussed the ideology of Putin's Russia. In my opinion, one of the worst cases of Russian propaganda is the propaganda in Russian schools: now every Russian kid has to visit mandatory "patriotic" classes in school, in which children are brainwashed into the Z ideology. A lot of people laugh these attempts of Russia to influence the people, but I think otherwise: it's actually very serious and is already doing a lot of damage. In this video we'll talk about how Z propaganda works on the Russian youth. I'll also discuss what it was like for me growing up in Putin's Russia, and what it's like for kids these days. Hope you enjoy! Smash like and sub for more thx xoxo

Must be a screwed up experience. Honestly i couldn't imagine schools being like that. so willing to mold your children into people that are willing to kill and die at a moments notice. I agree that parents should teach their children that there's another point of view from the one they've been told at school, but I can't help fearing that the next logical step will be for the children to be told that their patriotic duty is to report their parents for any "traitorous" views that they express.

It’s the same with people saying advertising doesn’t work on them. It’s possible that they are ‘special’ and it doesn’t, but a Trillion dollar world wide industry begs to differ. We are social, emotional animals first, rational thinkers a long way after that. Propaganda (and marketing which is the same thing really) works. If it didn’t, we wouldn’t have it. Marketing works on me, and I’ve spent 25 years trying to persuade others to act a certain way. Even knowing it’s trying to manipulate you doesn’t help, you could almost say humans are a salesforce animal. For sure, our civilisation (and less civilised places like N Korea, and now Russia) are built on persuasion. And I don’t mean rational argument persuasion, as the most effective propaganda is always emotional, even when it’s wrapped in clothes of logic.

"No opposition" part is actually accurate. We have no opposition, but instead we have a bunch of degenerates with vague ideas and stupidly populist programme (like Navalny political programme). They are degenerates in life, they can't even tidy their flats, but this rubbish for suuure knows how to rule Russia. No thanks, that's why I side with Putin.

Another way to approach this is to go for non-political critical thinking materials. For example James Randi work on exposing frauds or learning more about Scientology or other cults and how they take away people's autonomy. That would be one way to stay sane in that bubble.

There was even a period when I was thinking maybe I was the true communist and the rest of them were evil capitalists who only care about money and power. Because everywhere I searched, it told me communism is right, communism is all about the little people, and I really didn’t think I was wrong, to think that people should have rights. I was raised under an authoritarian, totalitarian, military dictatorship. All news, media, books were controlled. I fell for it! Now I realise that in Hitler's time I would easily have been loyal Hitler Youth. Then I went to the USA for university where I was finally able to read books and take classes about the history of my home. I actually argued with professors at first but eventually had to acknowledge - my national leader and hero was actually not quite what I thought. I think it's easy to think "Oh, I wouldn't fall for brain-washing" but you'd be surprised how easy it is when all you are fed is propaganda. But the ruling party had to give up one party control and my home is now a thriving democracy with free press, elections, etc. But from my own past, I find it hard to condemn Z supporting Russians - they are victims of the brain-washing they received - they are ignorant... But Russia needs people and leaders who will break through to the people and open eyes and minds. The first democracy leaders in my home, I initially thought were idiots rocking the boat... now I admire their bravery to stand up, be imprisoned but keep fighting until democracy won out.

I was raised in Communist Eastern Germany, the paradise of workers and peasants. What you show feels quite familiar to me. So yes, I share your concerns, because I saw in the past that this ongoing brainwashing actually works. I remember very vividly the claustrophobic atmosphere that it creates, because we actually lived in an open prison and there was no way to escape the AgitProp. The effect was that half of the people started to belief the crap, other half was trying not to get crazy (and sort out what would be save to say to whom without ending up in jail). It divided parents and children, brothers and sisters, whole families. Germany is unified for 30 years now, but you can still feel the wounds of this divide. So yes. It has huge impact and is very difficult to be undone if you are raised in this fashion.

I remember writing letters and sending "Care packages" to soldiers in Iraq when I was a kid in 2003 or 2004 or whenever we invaded. A lot of this does seem familiar, I even remember a year or two later our teacher taking us on a class trip to Washington around election year for Bush second term, pushing Bush on us very hard and we ate it up. Weird stuff, I do however think its good for Americans to see this, to help alleviate some of their cognitive dissonance about how Russia is so bad, but we are not. On the other hand, assuming anyone uses critical thinking, it is obvious politicians and redditors are jumping on the "Russia bad" train to feel better about finally having a country doing the same shit on the same scale (nearly) as the US has been.

Meanwhile Russia is proclaiming that Ukraine isn't a real country and Mevedev has recently come out with a map where he divided most of Ukraine's territory among neighboring countries with most being taken by Russia.

She said that nobody takes them seriously or just cares about them. All they do - ask student to sit in a classroom for 2 minutes. Just to make a photo like "hey, we do it, people attend these lessons" and right after that - everybody is free. There are few students, who've been forced to sit through these lessons by their parents. Teachers dont care. Everybody just watches his smartphone and does his homework. It does not matter if its from the far left or far right. BOTH are equally trying to brainwash the children. It doesn't matter if its from the far left or far right. Have we not learn from history aka the Hitler Youth or Stalin's Communist Youth Army or something? Both are extremely One sided and only project their own biased views while not critically analysing on which policies from both sides works best while calling out any policies which could have a negative impact like the LGBT indoctrination on children in the left wing side and also toxic conspiracy theories mixed in with racism aka anti asian hate and etc. Don't get me wrong, we see this problem in Europe with the European migrant crisis in which migrants mostly from the Middle East whom does not want to assimilate into European culture and keep forcing their Sharia beliefs onto others. But we need to differentiate between those problematic groups with law abiding migrants whom are willing to assimilate into their adopted country and learn their customs and language.

We have to hope Putler and his personality cult suffer a drastic and insurmountable setback as soon as possible. I'd like to think they're young enough to still recover. Young children are normally sincere in their desire to understand the difference between right and wrong, and they actively seek elder approval and guidance. A little later as teenagers they can often rebel hard against that prior guidance, but that's because they feel the change happening in their minds and they vulnerable and scared, they want approval from adults that they're becoming a good adult. We have to hope that whatever emerges from Russia after all of this is over is an education system that actually cares about the truth.

As an elementary school teacher, I have to wonder what subjects are being sacrificed for these classes? I taught in China, and saw their required speeches. I'm russian and I was 12 when Donbass war started and our crazy history teacher was showing us tv reports and ranting how good of a leader P*tin was. And as a kid I fell for it. However, when I grew older and started to listen in to propaganda, I've realised some statements don't add up. And Navalny's video turned my world upside down. Maybe the kids that believe propaganda now will "awaken" later. Not all of them, but a part for sure.

I used to work in education. My ex-bosses tried to force the kid students to participate in a pro-war event. They did intervene during the lessons that day, trying to get the kids out for the event. They would also try to force the staff (even the ones who had a day off) to join that. They also tried to force the unmarried women in the staff to write freaking love letters to soldiers (with pictures included), because "boys would like to meet you, when they'll come home". Most of the staff did their best to get the kids out of our bosses' view (and skip the event themselves). Though, some parents of the very little kids would be overjoyed at a possibility for their kids to write to the soldiers. The older pupils would usually decline or ignore the pestering, despite it going for freaking minutes. It was a freaking shame to watch. But I'm happy that most of my colleagues tried their best to get the children out of it. Oh, and another thing. It was a private-owned company. My ex-bosses did it out of their own desire. They were stopping the lessons that were paid for by the kids' parents.

I am too lazy to translate the whole thing, so TLDR: Teacher asks kids in 5th or 6th grade what is patriotism, and majority of kids answer "to die for the motherland".
