Zach was introduced to alcohol in college and a seemingly innocent occasional drink soon spiraled into extensive alcohol abuse and drug experimentation. His life spiraled out of control almost immediately and this led to intense feelings of desperation and wanting to end his life.
Soon Zach's family began researching drug and alcohol treatment centers in the Phoenix area. Zach was able to begin the process of treatment here at our Phoenix, AZ facility. At first, he recalls feeling out of place and as if he didn't belong in treatment.
Zach still had a speck of willingness to do the work necessary to recover. He applied himself in treatment and learned so much about what was going on inside of him that he was trying to numb with drugs and alcohol.
He also chose to work a program of Alcoholics Anonymous as his path to recovery. The internalized fear that he lived with on a daily basis started to subside. As he started to work his steps, he realized that he had found a real solution to his problem. Today he has a deeper understanding of what it means to be of service to others.
Zach is now a group facilitator here at A Better Today. He works with the patients and directs them through the informational groups on addiction. He is taking what he learned in recovery and helping those who are just starting out on their path to freedom.
