Watching BTS content like this made me realize one of the biggest errors I made on set on my recent short film was shooting the dark setting... in the dark. I realized in post that I could have lit it bright with a high contrast ratio on the background and then just tune it down in post to get a dark and moody look and prevent too much digital noise in the shadows. Watching this, the BTS shows how bright the set was but the final shots were dark and moody. Well, that's why it's important to practice the craft and actually MAKE stuff. You learn a little every time. I wish I watched more BTS like this before my shoot! But it's okay, the noise is at a fixable at the moment, it just limits how hard I can push the grade.
@ZachRamelan
@ZachRamelan 5 ай бұрын
Good call man. You can bring down the brightness quite a bit. My best investment/upgrade for my camera was having a monitor that showed LUTS on it. That way I could see the final shot before taking it to the computer and making it too dark or too bright.

"Bravo Darling... Bravo" I am an Acting Teacher and I thought you did wonderfully... #1) You didn't take yourself too seriously... leaving your EGO at the door, giving yourself permission to learn while teaching us. #2) You had a GREAT Attitude (that is everything, because once you get upset or mad... it is all downhill from there and makes for an even longer day.) #3) You took the time to walk us through every step... and we got to laugh and learn along the way (Thank YOU for that). #4) You allowed US to walk through your journey of discovery and mishaps and development of Success. #5) Your wife (and if she is not your wife... she should be!) Was wonderful, supporting you and helping with your FX Makeup... (I love doing FX Makeup...) especially scars. #6) This video was short ... sweet... innovating... (not at all boring... THANK YOU). EXCELLENT VIDEO... You get an A+ from this Acting Teacher. Thank you for taking the time to make this great video.

"Greeking" is from the phrase "Greek to me" meaning that while something is written with letter we recognize, it might as well be in another language because we don't understand it. An example would be the "Lorem ipsum" text that is usually used to test typefaces on printed materials. It is used to obfuscate copyrighted or trademarked text or symbols when a production has not obtained permission to use them. I just looked at Wikipedia. I didn't know this previously.

Now i haven't watched past 1:20 yet. But this gives me the idea of a psycological horror film where there is one character only. The plot quite simple: They are alone in the woods trying to escape from... something. They reach a abandoned cabin and enter it. The whole movie revolves around that cabin. They will see facets of them self trying to protect them from the beast(see where this is going?). The ending is them finally killing the beast, but noticing its been them all along. As they leave the cabin they slowly change into the beast itself. Then outside find a lonely wanderer they can chase. The camera zooms out into the cabin seeing them on the floor bleeding out, police lights shine and 2 officers talk. They had some sort of condition making them see "things". They murdered 20 people before they finally captured them. that cabin was the place the victims where found. Unlike the killer, they couldn't kill "the beast". They now relive the events their victims had experienced.

Love your stuff Zach. When you said to use an aperture of six or seven to have deeper focus, and then also talked about only needing a 60w light, and knowing you use a Sony fx3 with dual native ISO with the higher ISO being 12800, it makes sense that you can make something look great and color well. But what about people who don't have access to great lighting or that camera and its insane "see in the dark" capabilities?
