Zach butchered Batman and Superman and anyone thats sad it was taken from him doesnt care about DC. Not only that but he really is just awful ar creating personalities, all his characters are either dull and uninteresting or cartoonishly flamboyant and childish, hes terrible at nuance in story telling that the codes of these characters require. It is not Zack Snyder's fault you have 0 knowledge of what you writing about , let alone what you try to gatekeep. Superhero genre wasn't started just so it will be stiffled by convinient stories, it Started as an inconenience that nobody even believe in until it became too obvious of its commercial potential. Batman who cares about lives of innocents so much he is willing to break his own rules and Superman Being brick wall against dishonest evil people Is as accurate representation of these characters as anyone can do. Zack Snyder's likes examining pop culture icons and taking a provocative approach to the myths underlying them, also playing w retro elements, approaching them directly, with no apologies - he's also interested in the idea of a no-holds-barred female action hero (he brilliantly cast Gal Gadot as Diana, and the rest of that impressive DCEU pantheon) - he needs to adapt Sheena, and give her the same extravagant visual treatment he gave Leonidas in 300 - I think he'd love such an in-your-face challenge

The thing is, people like IP X b/c of its intrinsic feature and characteristics. You like Superhero A b/c he's a boy scout and follows a strict code of conduct. Someone else likes Superhero B b/c he fights dirty and is more of a pragmatist who's more flexible with his ethics. If you 'break the rules' and flip them or change the 'core' of what they are... they're not that thing anymore, are they? If you say Person A is good and you have them killing innocent people, then they're not good. If you have a villain in the story who only helps people and doesn't harm or hurt anyone, they're not really a bad person, are they? For decades I've watched as people have toyed with the IP or given it a new slant or interpretation, etc, but if you throw out something that is the core appeal of a thing or flip it 180 degrees, it ceases to be that thing, right? You can do it, you can even be creative about it, but it becomes hollow.

But, as an aside, doesn't BvS have a scene with Bruce Wayne watching Superman's fight in Metropolis, laying waste to the city? And you don't think no one died in that? Isn't that kinda Batman's motivation along with the resentment he has for Supes b/c of the level of destruction he and other Kryptonians wrought on Metropolis?
@FirstnameLastname-my7bz
@FirstnameLastname-my7bz 12 күн бұрын
@@Vulcanerd Superman didn't cause any of that destruction himself. Batman's motivation that in case Superman WILL/might turn evil inevitably (just like almost all people he knew for 20+ years of his Batman life) he *needs* to be put down Now. While anyone has even a chance of doing so. Because 1) other metahumans even if existed were El Diablo level ie stoppable by people 2) some metahumans that even in theory can put up the fight are hidden, just like how Superman was before whole Black Zero event started and before Lois Lane found him and leaked infortmation to the press (which is similar to how Action Comics #1 (and its retcon in McClure Snydicate and Superman #1 versions) starts also, with Clark trying best to keep "Superman" hidden from the public until Lois meets Superman (and get scared at the first and gets excited some time later) and tells George Taylor about him, which is literally how entire superhero grenre was born literally and symbolically. Which is also similar to Batman #1 part where he kills people turned into monsters. And if you don't know original Superman comics frequently dealt with public fear of Superman, cops and friendly military were shooting him on site. Inb4 "that was before these characters were formed" and other mental gymnastics : 1st of all Core aspects of these characters were already formed by Superman #1 and Batman #1. Additional stuff however was added nonstop since them, both by creators of the characters and by people that absolutely had nothing to do with creation , with Lots of these later writers "contradicting" what came before and even sometimes themeselves if they were under different editor (Superman 162 vs Superman 229 stories by Leo Dorfman as Really vivid example of that). 2nd of all "even" by these other writers also adapted societal rejection of Superman (like in Birthright) and Batman being utilitarian (I don't even need to list anything particular after Tower of Babel AND OMAC Brother MK1 stories came out). There is literally 0 in Zack's interpretations that contradict core aspects for either of these characters. Especially aspects that were kept in-line with original versions of these characters. And you absolutely Can't compare any superhero with any superhero, they are all mostly similar, but also different. Not to mention that most people don't even know them, at best they know reinterpretation by someone. Like how in Raimi movie uncle Ben says "with great power" line, which he never did in original comics and until years years later in vague retcon by Stan Lee where he also didn't say it directly anyways. Or how Iron Man in comics kept his secret identity SO tight that Reed Richards in Secret Wars 1 comics thought he is black guy because at that time he was replaced by his bodyguard future War Machine (and it was also reference to the Shooter's original plan of making Ferro-Lad a black kid until Weisinger declined) , while in MCU movies he immedietally gives it up in the very end of the first ever and only film. Or how no Avengers in MCU have no kill rule, despite that being in comics (and was "kinda" plot point in Superior Spider-Man in that very same 2012-2015 period of time). Nobody really cares about "intrinsic feature" , they either just prefer particular versions (or more like Their headcanon of them) or simply biased against particular guy for absolutely 0 good reason when not only in all superhero movies and films they kill (except for Wonder Woman 84 and maybe some Spider-Man ones) , especially by the "logic" that Batfleck/ Cavill's Superman do, but Only in Zack's films it is actually addressed as something bad instead of as absolutely nothing and worthy at best of a quip afterwards (which is also way to go considering original Superman and Batman comics, except most of these movies aren't even DC related).

As if Zack didn't suffer enough from clickbait titles. Do better Josh. 0 directors actually were ever absolutists about no-kill rule (which aren't Superman and Batman exclusive, all Avengers/X-men and others also have it in comics since the Stan Lee) besides Patty Jenkins in Wonder Woman 84, but only Zack Snyder of All of these directors doesn't pretend that violence can ever be guaranteed non-lethal or killing is something that can be just brushed off lightly , when people in real life diе "just" from punches in the face, and superhero genre was always rooted in thinking from real life human conditions, by creators of this sub-genre. Even when it bends real world rules in certain moments.

In BVS yeah he broke the no kill and no gun rule but that did literally nothing for the story or character and was just there to be cool action scene and nothing else. While in Nolan’s Dark Knight Batman refusal to kill the Joker is also to reject Jokers ideology and prove a point that the world/people aren’t as cynical and cut throat as Joker believes and Bruce won’t kill him just like the 2 boats with prisoners and Gotham citizens won’t kill each other.

@@FirstnameLastname-my7bz First of all none of these movies are “canon” so I don’t know what you’re referring to there. Second of all I wouldn’t call running over someone with the Batmobile, unloading clips from the machinegun on regular gangsters and than branding the survivors as “self defense” which is what happens in BVS. Also your detail of Bruce not learning from the League of Shadows being canon proves my point that you can make changes to the character and not be chained to canon but make it mean something/symbolize something instead of just being an empty action shot. Bruce learns from the League and even agrees on using fear as a tool but unlike them refuse’s to whole cloth blanket every person as unredeemable and a criminal(like the league does with Gotham wholesale including its civilians) and that he won’t kill it’s a line he won’t cross and though it’s a thought/action his enemies won’t share that makes it all the more important. Running Into someone's car isn't murder unless you think And a okay that in Batman Begins Batman killed all these cops in the end save for two. Bat branding isn't killing (and is reference to 1943 series, which also debuted bat cave and Alfred, if you didn't know). It only proves point that you are either biased against Snyder or don't care about canon in the first place. Since nothing that Zack did in BvS wasn't in comics or cartoon or a movie (for your another discovery before 1989 movie, where Batman also "kills" btw, Batman never had automatic grappling gun all climbing and swining was by the manual rope) before he made BvS. And in the end Nolan's Batman still kills, like guy in the truck in The Dark Knight (if that wasn't kill then nobody died by Batman in BvS). Superman also killed in canon. In fact Superman killing unstoppable villain (starting with World's Finest Comics 6, also Action Comics 13 and 23) is The canon in the comics, literally happens all the time and Only in particular versions like Alan Moore's he stops being Superman after that. Neck snap is a direct reference to Action Comics 805 (and Superman (1987) 22 in context). Again, not Zack's fault you know so little. Here at more or less what is the end of the category we called the "Comic Book Movie" we are forced to look back at the wreckage and make a final analysis. Some will say the dream is dead and a man name Zack killed it. Some will attribute it to other things. This is my perspective. I liked Zack's work, but I don't only like his work. Another man could have come along who tried to elevate the genre. I think Zack really opened my eyes to something. I wish that he didn't so I could continue to being naive. What I came to realize is that if we had another 10 years of what the MCU was giving us, then most people would be just fine with that. If the MCU in its own way did not become as divisive as it is now and was just doing "solo movie" after solo movie and then a team up. Easy to digest, minimal thematic material, unchallening, then not much would have changed. Knowing that, it relieves me having to pretend that I have a horse in this race. I understand that what happened with Justice League in 2017 or what later became of the MCU I was never going to remain interested in these movies. I think most people agree that Superhero Movies/Comic Book movies need to change but the only thing that is widely agreed on is what needs to stay the same and Zack was just a victim of that. A victim of trying to elevate the category. The final analysis is in and we killed the category of Comic Book Movie and to be honest, good riddance. We were never going to let it change anyway.

It's not a rule, it's part of who those two characters are. There are superhero's who do kill (Wolverine for example). It's just one (although prominent) aspect of these characters. You can come up with other conflicts for a character, if you are interested in that. But I don't think that's what he's truly interested in, he likes to make big action set pieces. Most of his characters are shallow and feel generic. And he has succes with these movies, good for him.

No, Chris Nolan "broke the rules' with TDK Trilogy. He took a franchise into an entirely new and different direction, and yet even Nolan had the sense enough to maintain the ideals of the Batman character. Snyder on the other hand equates "break the rules"= "My hero is a horrific murderer, it's so badass". Hey, Zack, your job as a director/writer is to put the heroes in those tough positions and then come up with clever and creative ways for them to act heroically. Snapping someone's neck is not fitting for a character who wears a symbol of hope across his chest...

@@pb.j.1753 Originally in the script Superman punched Zod into the Phantom Zone with the rest of the kryptonians. Snyder is the one who added the fight with Zod so he could have a reason to destroy cgi buildings and snap a guys neck. There are ways that are much less graphic to kill off a villain if needs must. Superman never needed to be in that position to begin with, but even after in BVS, Superman still murders people. He doesn't learn from killing Zod. Snyder made Superman and Batman two retards who both kill people and have little to no morals or ideals. Or character for that matter. They are effectively cardboard cutouts of the characters that wear the costumes and use the titles, but they are not the same characters.
