I would never have though this was designed by Zaha Hadid! Architecturally, the shape and form of the airport looks quite oddly weird. It's in fact totally arbitrary, not quite smooth and organic as expected in her usual designs like Heydar Aliyev Center, Azerbaijan. All in all, it's NOT a typical architecture designed by Zaha Hadid. Probably someone has intentionally altered her original concept. Also, who could forget her originally beautiful Monsoon Restaurant Sapporo in Japan, with her unique concept of fire and ice! The aerial view truly proved the airport design absolutely arbitrary. Some starfish species have more than more than 5 arms, but a starfish commonly has only 5 arms that extend from a circular middle. The 6th arm of this "giant starfish-shaped" airport was intentionally lowered to probably emphasis the passenger entry and to set it apart from the flight arrivals and departures. However, it arbitrarily makes the airport look like a man/woman lying face down with his/her arms and legs stretching out like positional torture, and the distinctively split arm for passenger entry looks like 2 hands (of another person) holding the 'bottom part' of the person being tortured! It's just visually disturbing. Somebody must have intentionally altered Zaha Hadid's architectural concept.

@@christopheranderssen7136 I done wanna disagree with your great assessment This is the closest thing to a normal building zaha (guess her company ain't her company anymor) has designed that is so important You can see that they are elements that are totally her and then I would figure that the budget became very restrictive on the interior applications of the concepts. Given that everything that would normally be done in uniform material with uniform curves that in this design seem to be staggered, that was a dead Giveaway But if we are to compare this Airport to other airports in the world it's a lot of Visual intriguing moments that r individually arbitrary but the way they are put together is probably what makes it unique And that you said even the starfish is almost arbitrary but it was part of the design mentality I believe she and others were having a fun time including the design for the space Airport. Kenny simbayi We all knew that Zaha Hadid passed away in 2016, and this building has just completed this year 2019. This airport design is obviously totally out of her uniquely beautiful design style. Once people attach her name to this terribly arbitrary design, they will forever damage her great reputation and unique talent, which is totally unfair for her. Is this terrible design the end of her career as a well known talented architect? I firmly believe that somebody must have intentionally altered her original design.

@@christopheranderssen7136 firstly best comments convo in a while Secondly definitely is a shame That's why the best is to not put your name or have a renaming death clause if they gonna pull back on things But China were infamous for ruining her designs through interference before she passed away. So it's a shame. I remember the renders of the interior were more curvy and it's a shame the realization has been lost You can see glimmers of it in the things that's are structural and white Like the space frame holding the window, and the bridge, and her walkways all the people level stuff seems to still have her stuff, so I am guessing that's where the budget shifted the focus

GUESSING USING MY ARCHITECTURAL KNOWLEDGE: I think you woud be surprised Comparitivelty its design will make it easy to cool especially, tall spaces, all the panelling being segmented, means they can easily manage to cool it especially with the high level glass and windows. Zaha loved moving roof windows and it will also be part of he fire compliance Heating again is another challenge. But given how many people will be in the space it will only be a late night early morning issue

I learned from the news that the glass are special one that can let light in and keep 30% heat out.

It’s a smart building supposed to be environmentally friendly

The amount of glass used, especially in the roof, would severly increase the cooling expenses during the summer. add in the huge amount of travelling people every day which also produce a lot of heat and you have a cooling nightmare. Then again this is clearly a prestige project and the amount of light does really add to the spacious feel of the relatively low building (in relation to its width). Zaha hadid (rest in peace) was known for her prestigious architecture not for sustainable architecture.

There is no such a city called Daxing, Daxing is a district of Beijing.

I'll go to Beijing soon just for the new airport.
