PG’s John Bohlinger hung with Zakk Wylde before soundcheck during the Nashville stop of the Generation Axe tour. Wylde, an intimidating muscle-bound shred monster turned out to be perhaps the nicest guy on the planet, is a renaissance man, and a titian of industry. Zakk humbly took us through his rig full of newly-launched Wylde Audio wares.
The guitars Wylde tours with are the same off-the-shelf models that are available through Wylde Audio. Typically, the Black Label Society frontman hangs on to one axe through an entire set and on this particular night this Warhammer model got the call. It features a mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, Floyd Rose tremolo, and a set of Wylde’s signature EMG pickups.
Wylde also plays this Wylde Audio Viking V. It has nearly identical specs as the Warhammer, but with a pinstripe finish.

Zakk is a cool guy. I waited outside his show in Portland ME for 7 hours before they even got there and I was underage and couldnt even get in. So he brought me on his bus, let me play his guitars and snuck me passed the bouncers to watch the show. I'll never forget how the band went out of their way for an underage fan who just wanted to meet them.

One of my best friends wanted to get zakk on his album, but George Lynch told my buddy, bro zakk Won’t roll out of bed for any less then 100k Lol George was on his album tho, along with Guthrie, stump, and Poland. Zakk was just gonna be a LOT MORE expensive Other then that I just heard story’s from back in the pride and glory days of zakk getting so drunk in these small bars that he would have to go back stage and puke and then wouldn’t come back for 30 min to an hour Lol those were the days

Zakk will go down in history as one of the best, No more tears lead break is so intense and not due to complexity but the Feel and the tone he projects into the guitar is insane. BLS is overlooked to a degree and it shouldn't be.

I was 14 years old. First live show ever. Ozzy and Anthrax in Pensacola FL. I was lucky enough to be near the front and I will never forget Zakk's first show of his first tour with Ozzy. The guy blew my fucking mind that night. I was already a guitar player, but I remember I realized I needed to work on my vibrato big time! Fucking great to see he's still going strong.

People give Zakk a hard time for his lunch harmonics and image. But he is an accomplished musician, works his ass off (when is he NOT on tour-Ozzy, BLS, Zakk Sabbath, G3, Experience Hendrix) but most of all he is a genuine cool guy. I paid almost $800 for me and my girlfriend(now wife) to meet Zakk. He said hello and immediately went into breaking my balls. Being a Jersey guy myself ( and I’m not assuming its ONLY in NJ) but that is a friendship thing if the highest level. I would gladly spent that money again, even more for that experience. He also was very engaging to my wife who couldn’t care less who he was. But he was awesome. Or as Zakk would say “beyond awesome”

I do love how Zakk Wylde really knows his stuff. You get loads of guitarists out there who maybe know the amps pretty well but know nothing about their pedals or amps but Zakk Wylde knows every component in every part of his chain in detail and what it adds or takes away from his overall sound. It's a nice change from guitarists who barely even know what string gauges they're currently using.

I owed one of Zakk's JCM 800 heads. I should have never sold it! I had no idea it would be so hard to find another one that sounded as good as she did! Fucker!!!!! Still kickin myself! It was Angus Young's tone on steroids! It at one point had a Soldano mod done to it but by the time I got it and from what I could tell, it was a stock 1983/84 jcm800.

Banter and talkin about it is great and all, but good lord play the stuff and give us insights on the coolness that the RIG has!!! Andy Timmons, and Guthrie, those ones are great.

Zakk was the only one willing to get on camera with the limited pre-show time due to the meet-and-greet and so many guitarists needed soundcheck and stage access. We will eventually post a gallery on www.premierguitar.com that will have all the gear from the tour.
