I thought he does show the southern root thing? Book of shadows 2, and Grimmest hits are certainly less heavy than earlier releases, full of ABB and Skynard influences. I like it all, head pounding metal and introspective mournful ballads. I think when someone or something becomes as big and great as Zakk, they act as a lightning rod for some. I have heard people bitch that he looks too much like a Viking, really? Holy shit. Dude is a monster on guitar and people are mad at him for it. Funny, but true story. Was in a hard rock band during the late '80s, which the other guitarist (only into one style of music) was berating Zakk over using Pinch Harmonics. After the band broke up, he stopped pursuing his dream. Meanwhile Zakk has continued his musical profession on his musical terms in full on success many dream to achieve in this brutal profession. Some may not also realize he can play some badass musical passages on the piano as well. Cheers.

Born to play guitar and was fortunate enough to discover that early enough to capitalize on it. Some people just have the nervous system that allows them to excel rapidly at playing the scales used in most rock music. I have seen people that were committed to learning to play guitar from a relative early age and put in the time to consistently practice and after not being where they thought they should be after a couple or 3 years start trying different techniques to improve dexterity but seem to plateau and then I have seen others that pick up a guitar in their late teens and in almost no time have reached a level that the kid that started at 12 and has played and practiced religiously has not come close to by their late teens. There is nothing more discouraging than for a person that has put in the time to see someone pick up what they have worked so hard to achieve and make them look like an amateur after only playing a year or two but that is the way it goes. People that pick it up really fast are pretty rare and anyone can become pretty good if they work hard enough and they might bring more creativity to playing than the guy that has the flashy chops.

I like Zakk Wylde but truthfully I prefer Frank Marino I saw Frank Marino and 1988 and he was absolutely brilliant it was at the Ritz in Detroit which is fairly small . He started off with the answer just like the live album in 78 or whenever it was he was awesome. .... I kind of prefer most the original awesome classic guitar players there were a few that came through in the 80s like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Rhoads ... Yngwie Malmsteen ..and then later on Dimebag Darryl ... A guy named Audley Freed for Cry Of Love was pretty awesome ..... I'm kind of stuck in the original players of hard rock like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore and people like Steve Howe and Brian May and David Gilmour and Frank Marino .. I love Eddie Van Halen he might make my top 10 list at the bottom even though technically he might have been a quicker guitar players on some of them most of my favorite guitar players have a certain amount of Blues. I've seen most of my favorite guitar players from Jimmy Page to Jeff Beck to Ritchie Blackmore to Frank Marino ..Steve Howe.. Stevie Ray Vaughan.. Johnny Winter ..Rory Gallagher.. Brian May..... Alvin Lee.. Robin Trower... David Gilmour.. Pete Townsend ..Tony Iommi . Keith Richards .. Steve Marriott.. Phil lynott Gary Moore and Scott Gorham.. Buck Dharma.. Ted nugent... Alex lifeson ...Pat Travers... Rickey medlocke . Billy Gibbons.. Dickey Betts and Dan Toler.. Carlos Santana .. Eddie Van Halen .. Vivian Campbell... Jake E Lee.. Stevie Ray Vaughan.... Michael Schenker... George Lynch.... Yngwie Malmsteen... Stanley Jordan... BB King... Paul McCartney ... I've seen a lot of the great bands that had two guitar players like Lynyrd Skynyrd had three, I saw them in 1976 with Steve Gaines Allen Collins and Gary rossington , then I saw Outlaws, Aerosmith, Foghat, April Wine, Kansas, Humble Pie , AC-DC. .. Rolling Stones... Molly Hatchet... 38 Special.. Point Blank... Iron Maiden.. Styx.. Night Ranger ... Whitesnake with Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell... .. Scorpions... Tesla.. Metallica... Guns N Roses with Slash... Boston ... Steve Vai... Mark Farner .. I have seen a whole lot of great bands it is kind of hard to say who was the boss I didn't even list quite a few on there , Soundgarden , Montrose , Bob Seger,, Travis Meeks was awesome... Chris Cornell is actually an awesome guitar player I seen him 6 times total between Soundgarden Audioslave and uphoria morning tour. Myles Kennedy and Alter Bridge ... Edgar Winter.. Sammy Hagar.. Black Crowes... Tool .. Godsmack... Primus.. Buckethead.. The guess who with Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings.. Velvet Revolver.. Stanley Clarke on Bass... Those are the bands who I've seen plus more .. I've seen some of the best musicians ever for sure.. I've been going to concerts since 1976 and I've been to 133 concerts I haven't been to any this year of 2020

Actually, I think I saw the crazy babies video or heard the song on the radio prior to the album's release and even though that song doesn't have a very long solo, you could tell from just how he was playing the riff in the beginning and by his tone that he was bringing something new to the guitar world, which was pretty active in late '88. I saw him a little later, on the end of the tour for that album in the summer of '89 or '90 at the Orange County Fair in Middletown, NY and my mouth must have been hanging open the whole time.

To put in perspective, zakk was just finished no more tears album with ozzy here in summer 91, in September it was released to make him a global star, he was known to ozzy fans but not as a stand alone until after no more tears made him a super star. This is a great time capture, on the cusp of being considered one of the worlds best players by 24 years old, and smash hits from no more tears propelled him to guitar god status

I saw his debut with ozzy in1989 on the no rest for the wicked tour. Anyone who attended that tour knew immediately that zakk was a guitar god.

I’m thinking this might be 87 or so. Makes no sense that Ozzy’s guitar player with two albums and one tour under his belt would be playing in a tent at some carnival. Curious
