I never heard him mention Elvis before. I'm happy to hear Morrissey say his name because that was the first music I fell in love with, aged 5! Still listening over 50 year later....

"when we communicate every day it's always very basic, we don't say anything terribly interesting - we're not supposed to" i like this and agree. everything is kept so superficial. you're not supposed to talk about anything that matters or difficult things and dark emotions. not allowed room for it, except in some music.

Zane, your a lucky man. Its so captivating to listen to Morrissey talk and answer your well thought out questions. Hes truly a lyrical genius. I really like how honest, open and articulate he is, not to mention his singing

It's interesting that Morrissey starts to ask this guy questions half way through, never seen that before. I get the impression that Morrissey quite likes him...

Morrissey can't play piano. He just sings. "Eh, she said I know you and you cannot sing. I said that's nothing you should hear me play piano."

He is so right about the sexual component of the singing voice. However, I am generally attracted to a person's voice, and a voice can't be more attractive than Morrissey's. And then he is also intelligent and witty and complex and beautiful and strong - he is the most attractive person I can think of.

I agree with so much of what Moz has said over the years. He just talks sense n knows his limitations. Love his thoughts about the sexual aspects of the voice. Spot on. Barely talked about, of course.

Zane asks great questions, better than any I've ever heard an interviewer ask Morrissey, but he doesn't give enuff space to Morrissey to answer. He comes in with something else too quickly. Zane is intelligent and insightful, but he lacks patience.

The best Morrissey interview I've seen so far.Must give Zane Lowe credit, well researched, unbiased, objective, engaging..can't ask for much more from an interviewer..especially with someone as difficult to 'open up" as Morrissey...& no, he doesn't go incredibly deep, but you can't with Morrissey...what Mozzer is about is in his music. But the interview is an excellent insight anyway into how Morrissey makes his records ( other interviewers have failed to go this much into his creative process)

Morrissey is super lovely, he has always been a very caring person and if he has intelligent opinions that shouldn't make some boring-brained people too easily cast him as difficult.

i agree, i don't recall ever hearing Morrissey talk so much about the creative process, or even his relationship to current or previous non-smith related band members. Morrissey obviously realises this guy is a professional, as well as being a fan, and treats him with more respect than the average journalist! heh. I also agree with Morrissey about the sexual component of the human voice but i'd go further and say it very much has the potential to create genuine sexual attraction.

Zane is an interviewer plus 1. He is just as much a conversationalist if not more so than an interviewer. He talks about himself a lot but always in reference and reverence to his interview subject, in this case Morrissey. Its a good thing I think, but it can be seen as self-centered. I don't think it is. What I would do to be in his shoes during this interview.

"When we communicate every day it's always very basic, we don't really say anything terribly interesting throughout the day. We're not supposed to." I disagree. Well, maybe with most strangers we keep it rather superficial, but I personally speak to people I enjoy spending any stretch of time with, deeply, darkly and truthfully. I have a limited interest for "small talk" and see very little point in it. But I'm sure creating art taps into something that is hard - perhaps almost impossible at times - to communicate as effectively outside of it. That, and the connection it can create between us as human beings, is why art is important.
