Tails even had difficulty recognizing Sonic as shown in the Scene where he saves him in Apotos. Even townsfolk get shocked when they see him in day and night because of the difference between the two forms.

Will Wallables That makes sense, but let’s be honest, he would’ve been more upset about Tails if that were the case. Tails is practically his younger brother, and that would crush you if someone that close didn’t recognize you. So that’s why I consider the way he acted about Amy being more represented by him actually liking her than him not liking the form.

It annoys him that she keeps on trying make him submit to a commitment that he doesn't want to get into, which explains why he always runs from her, not because he's shy.
