One huge difference you can see in the stats between JA and Russ? JA really focuses on what he is great at, while also trying to improve in his weak areas, but still play toward his strengths. That’s what Derozen said about cherishing his time in SA. Yes he learned how to expand his game, but he learned how to play to his strengths. So basically you improve in your weak areas so that teams aren’t able to force you to do things that you CANT, but you only rely on those things in games when your strengths are cut off or stymied. JA has become a better 3 point shooter this year, but guess what? He still only takes 4.5 per game. Why? Because he has also got even better at what he was already good at! He improved his shooting with the perfect mind set: I’m going to improve as a shooter not so I can take a bunch of 3s every game, but so that teams have to guard me out there, which makes it even easier for me to do what I’m already great at, getting inside. It’s brilliant. And it’s not what Russ ever did. Both Russ in 16/17 and JA this year shot 34 percent from 3. But JA only takes 4.5, Russ was taking nearly 7 and a half 3s per game. He didn’t learn to do it the way JA does. Just become respected from deep enough so that teams can’t go under. If they do, that’s when you try to punish them. And look at how that translates through their games: Russ shot 34 from 3, .425 overall on FGs, 46 on all 2s, and 48 effective FG. So even tho he improved as a 3 point shooter, he didn’t translate that improvement into any type of improvement on the rest of his game! JA, on the other hand, is shooting 34 from 3, 49 FG, 53 from 2, and 53 effective FG. JA has translated a bit of an improvement on his 3 ball, more respect from opponents on that shot, into HUGE improvements in the rest of his offensive game. It’s so clear that he has no desire to “prove” to people that he can be a great 3 point shooter. It appears that he just wants to hit enough 3s to keep the defense honesty, and that is IT. He is more than happy to not be seen as a great shooter, he just wants to find whatever ways he can to be a better overall badkwbrall player! However that needs to happen. It’s just so great watching him, you can just feel how he is so in the flow of the life of the game, not concerned at all with what anyone thinks about his game because he seems to truly have elite SELF confidence. He isn’t trying to prove anyone anything because he seems to only care about his own belief in himself. It’s brilliant. 53 percent VS 48 eFG is a hugeee difference. You are a much better offensive scorer if you can score 26 on good efficiency than if you can score 31, or even 50! On bad efficiency. It makes SUCH a differnce honestly. JA is a freaking PG shooting 53 percent on all of his 2s and scoring the seocnd most points in the paint in the whole league! This is what Russ could have been! I Believe that Russ did become a decent enough shooter than he could have just kept rhe D honest and got to the hoop all day Actuallt, I think Russ was so good at getting to the hoop that even as his shot got worse, he still could have just focused on playing to his strengths and there isn’t much the D could have done. I mean it would make it a bit harder as his shooting fell off a bit, but still. Look at the seocnd half of the year in Houston. The ONE time we saw him double down on his strengths and really let go of trying to prove anything as a shooter. He scored about 32 ppg on 53 percent shooting during that stretch, taking like 1-2 3s per game, but actually hitting them at a semi decent rate for himself. He was only taking the wide open ones when it was a shot that he couldn’t pass up. Great shots. And during that stretch he led the league in points at the rim!! Just like how JA is playing. I thought it was finally a turning point for him. But guess what? He couldn’t do it. He comes out after the year and says he wants to play his game and find a team that will let him play his game. He was so stuck in his ways and ego that he couldn’t admit that all of the people who said he should be playing that way all along were rifgt. He basically sabotaged the rest of his career for the sake of trying to preserve the integrity, at least in his own mind, of his prior career. Honestly. That’s exaclty what happened. He would have in some sense been admitting his approach was somewhat flawed all along If he accepted that the Houston role was the best he had ever played in his career. But guess what Russ? It was. It happened. Whether or not he admitted it we all got to see it, we all got to see what we expected all along. He was by far the best he had ever been when he simply learned to play to his strengths and stop trying to prove or be something that he is not. But he is too rigid. And I feel for him, cuz I think he could have been a truly amazing all time great player, but just in an entirely different style.

Ja's potent penetration brings the bigs in close and sets up others. His team doesn't settle for 3 all the time either. Ja makes his team a penetration art form. I love having JJJ and the enforcer Adams. Built for the offs

Morant is a perfect example of a player who is not passive at all and will get theirs WHILE ALSO totally empowering his teammates to be great as well. He is, I believe, what Westbrook could have been if he had a completely different aspect of mentality. JA combines Westbrook with Chris Paul. If he can also throw in Jrue holiday, he can be the best PG we have seen in….. It goes beyond the numbers. It really does

16/17 Thunder had Steven Adams, pre injury Oladipo, Jerami grant, Sabonis, Cam Payne, Taj Gibson, Andre Roberson, Doug McBuckets. Some extremely selfless players ar the time. Guys who gave huge effort on D for little attention on offense, guys who even were willing to bang down low but not grab rebounds they worked for. That team was led by someone taking 24 shots per game makong .425 percent of them, as well as turning the ball over 5 times a game. Just keep that in mind.

@@tsvina, no mumbo jumbo, just look at the numbers behind Jokic vs. Embiid and Luka vs. Ja. Clear as day when you compare! On the other hand, Ja is athletic monster, very eye pleasing. However, athleticism lasts until you hit early 30'. Then what?! Look at Westbrook.

Dude what? Even Draymond said the dude is one of the smartest guys in the league already. He’s legit so smart as a player. That’s why he is so efficient even tho he isn’t a great shooter. He got good enough at shooting to make rhe D guard him a bit mroe which has allowed him to unleash his inside game even more. He’s already poised and balanced enough mentally and emotionally to play to his strengths. That’s not as common as it might seem, just look at Russ. JA is a very very very smart player for his age, alreayd one of the smartest at his position. He is a great leader AND stat stuffer. We don’t see that a lot. Honestly this dude is something else. The way he combines Russ athletic gifts with Kyrie and CP3 chess playing IQ? Give him some credit

Afro americans?? Dude the nba is the pinnacle of basketball. Majority of the athletes are black. Some of the all time greats are black. NBA wouldn't be what it is without black athletes. Most of them have natural abilities, that you can't teach. You sound like a jealous person who's not from the states.
