Both played excellent tennis at this tournament but Steffi really announced her comeback at the end of 98 winning Philadelphia and Leipzig and playing really well here!

2 bad games played at 4-4 in both sets by Monica…I recall her post match interview saying she really should have won this match Steffi played well but Monica did kind of self destruct a bit but Steffi was at gge end quicker and more steady …great quality btw this match is on you tube but this video is by far the best out there

Yup. Seles blew leads in both this match their French open semi while winning their Australian open match with a huge margin. This is one of the many matches a fit Seles would have won.

How could you say steffi played well? she lost the first set 1-6 hitting so many errors. it's ridiculous.

Steffi well over the hill after her 1997 reconstructive knee surgery vs. Seles in her prime. And yet Steffi won! What a woman!! 😍

@@carrerau7138😂 of course you would say this …as a Seles fan I can admit Graf was the better player after Hamburg given the 4-1 head to head but Seles in her prime in 98 ??? She was a full step slower than her fast 90-93 years ..a prime Seles would not error away both sets as she did hear….steffi just needed to be steady and wait for the collapse just like their French semi I 99… it’s still a great match to see two legends playing, both not nearly in their prime
