Nice to finally see someone give Romania some chances after even our own media is pessimistic and putting us last or barely scraping 3rd. To be fair, we looked horrendous in the friendlies last week, but when it comes to major tournaments, it's a lot about who wants it more and this is a squad that looks proud and determined to seize the chance. If we'll be able to replicate the level we showed in the last two games in the qualies (Israel and Switzerland wins), we're there to cause an upset.

My top 4 at the tournament are France, Portugal, England and Germany in that order. Portugal are actually insane, look at their squad! I don't see a weakness, but France are the cream of the crop.

Switzerland are excellent at the moment. This is probably the last complete major tournament for what has been an underspotlighted golden generation. As you said, the Swiss have a very solid team, but I think it's also sprinkled with the kind of lightning in a bottle talent that excels at major tournaments. Manuel Akanji is an absolute rock who would walk into most national sides, Xerdan Shaqiri, while surely at the end of his career, is still talismanic for Switzerland and is capable of moments of brilliance, while Breel Embolo, having had to push past major injuries, has the pace, power, and inteligence to hurt most defences. I think they'll win group A and be a major suprise in the rest of the tournament.

As someone from Switzerland I am baffeled by people constantly picking Germany first and Switzerland last in the group. We got further than Germany in the last 3 tournaments. What has changed so drastically that people suddenly think Germany is a title contender and Switzerland does not make it out of the group stage despite Switzerland being more successfull in the last 6 years?

I hope we get OFC Nations Cup updates for how cut throat the competition is. After riots in New Caledonia forced their national team to withdraw, Vanuatu and Solomon islands must play in what is essentially a winner take all matchup to advance to the semifinal IN THE OPENING MATCH since the other team in the 3-team group is OFC giants New Zealand. Mental! Not to mention that not only do players represent their national team in the South Pacific but they also have an entire village or even island behind them as there is a lot of community pride regionally for someone that reaches the national team level of success no matter how bad the team is. This tournament was built for Zealandism and it deserves the recognition!

I feel like we're drifting further and further away from 'Dark Horse' being meaningful. Its almost easier to say something like 'Team/Teams to watch' since its so rare for teams outside the top 4-6 favourites to win. Personally I think Austria and Ukraine will be really fun and exciting but I can't really see either getting past the Quarter Finals, so its hard to say they're proper Dark Horses.

Not sure Portugal can be a dark-horse, for me they have the third best squad on paper. Not sure a 39 year old legend is helping their cause, but they have such a dynamic and talented attacking midfield they really could win it. Maybe it's Premier League bias from me, but I think Portugal have more star players than Spain or Germany, based on seeing the starting 11s from those two teams in their games so far. Portugal could well line up with Cancelo, Dalot, Dias, Palhinha, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, Diogo Jota, and some fella who plays in Saudi.

As a Romanian, someone thinks we have a chance? That s rare. And you know what, it actually feels nice to be tipped to fail, at least we don’t get the dark horse curse and if we do well we prove everyone wrong. The weird part is that I ve been criticising the coach throughout the qualifiers as the football has really not been the best outside of the Swiss and Israel wins at the end but as you said, results are what matters. Was Greece 2004 convincing? From what I ve heard, no. Was Portugal 2016 convincing? Definitely not. Yet they won the thing. Will we win the whole thing? Obviously not, not even in my wildest dreams but I think we have a shot at a decent run. If the injuries are truly all healed up by Monday as the coach said (Alibec can remain injured tbh) why not believe in ourselves? The great part about this team is that they don’t give up once they concede once or twice unlike what other Romanian squads of the past used to do, this is not normal for us. Yeah the friendlies were terrible but maybe we are simply concentrating our luck for the tournament. Everyone sleeping on Poland because they were a boring team in the last few years. With a different group there would be a QF potential there, and not just because of Lewandowski. Zieliński, Zalewski, Frankowski, Urbański, Moder, Kiwior, Szymański... Some decent players to mention. With the attackink mindset (believe me) and poor befense with Szczęsny between the bars it will be a fun team to watch for those 3 games ;)

I think the injury to Lewandowski might have been the nail in the coffin for Poland. He might just miss the first game, but I feel that considering the schedule, that first game against Netherlands is really important for Poland. They might need atleast a point to have a chance to advance.

Euros might look like a "downgrade" for France, but it's also the only trophy Deschamps hasn't won as a manager yet. Might be THE button for them this year.

This is probably the prediction that I agree the most on and shows how informed you are informed about international football. However, you are really, really sleeping on Ukraine. They were super unlucky to not win against Italy in the last qualifying game that would have put them directly through in a group that England won, there were some questionable ref decisions. Honestly their playoffs were a bit shaky but they showed character and advanced after being behind for a long time in both games They have the best goalscorer of the La Liga season in Dovbyk and another member of that wonderful Girona team in Tsygankov, Zinchenko plays in midfield so isn't a defensive liability, they have a lot of other quality PL-level players and great depth. I think they could pose problems even for Belgium, let alone Romania or Slovakia. Romania might have been better than Switzerland but as you said that group was super easy and it was more Switzerland fumbling. None of those teams would even come close to qualifying in the Ukraine group
