The 3D match engine in Football Manager does its best to represent what is supposed to happen according to the FM attributes, but sometimes it just doesn’t quite seem likely. I asked for your funniest clips and moments on Football Manager and a fair few have to do with horrible luck and match engine issues at EXACTLY the wrong time to just make it hurt more.
You all have endured some intense pain from Football Manager no matter how many guides and tips and tricks I make, it is unavoidable. So, let’s enjoy your collective pain and humor with your replies on Twitter.

Zealand, you've said you've never seen a 40 yard header, but Palermo actually scored a header from the halfway line once. Jone Samuelsen even scored from behind the halfway line even.

Regarding the first clip, I went into the last match of the Belgian league in the lead barely ahead of two other clubs, halfway through the final match my team is winning and both of them are losing… so yeah my team finished 3rd in the league

I spent about 10 minutes paused on his tactic breaking it down why he failed to lose that match any less than by 5 goals due to that formation. Pep would be turning over in his grave if he were dead.

The problem is not how long the player went without scoring. The issue is “WHY IS HE SCORING AGAINST ME” he has never scored a goal in his 10yr career and it’s his debut match for his 9th club and he goes ahead to score my team

13:14 Played in a futsal competition one year where our best player forgot the time for the final. He shows up at half time and basically did the same thing start of the second half. We were no longer pissed off with him after that :D

Is it just me who sees no difference after red cards. Literally for or against. I never go to a more defensive mentality anymore and it never backfires

Same. Either that or holding out for narrow wins near the end of the match - my experience in FM22 is that going defensive will just give the opponents more chances to break through. Continuing to pile on the pressure with high lines and an offensive mentality is the way to go. I do lower the tempo and waste time more often, but that's it.

This reminds me of the one time I was managing West Ham and I got battered 3-0 against Ajax in the Europa League Semis(first leg). From the start of that match to the next leg, FM decided to fuck me over and give "3-4 week" injuries to all 4 of my centre backs and Declan Rice got injured during the second leg. That single handedly ruined my Europa league dreams and top 4 push.

The Henry Pires joke is a nod to Arsenal's epic French connection from 20 or so years ago, Thierry Henry & Robert Pires, haha. Also, Southwark is pronounced Southark (just pretend the w isn't there) and the Pi in Pires is pee, not pie. (I'm one to know!)

The red card clip... dude... you're still playing Bayern and they chose to play without a left back to keep their attack. 10 men is not a huge problem for elite teams. Still that many goals is just brutal. 😂

Thet worst own goal at 10:35 was scarily like one I saw my brothers boys team lose a cup final on. The goalie got lobbed and he and my brother the CB ran back to clear, the goalie hooks it straight into my brothers chest... cup gone.

Hey Zealand, can you explain how two-footed players fare in the game for different roles? are they worthy to have for positions like CM or CD? does it affect tackling? I know two-footedness eat player's CA so is it worth to have a two footed player in roles other than the obvious inverted winger/forward/WB?!

I've lived that exact same feeling as the guy with le Havre, but for winning the league, and not only the rival got its score but in the same minute we lost our match. Worst thing? IRL situation, Camp Nou vs. local rivals espanyol, la Liga 2006/07, me in the stadium and after the whole match in tension not willing to celebrate anything, one minute before i already gave in and started celebrating. Worst sports night of my entire night. Oh! Btw, the rivals who finally won the league was of course Real Madrid. It is yet called "Tamudazo" in honor to espanyol captain Raúl Tamudo, who f*cked the sh*t out of us.

Probably lob the keeper, round the keeper and does trick will generate more of the last one. how about we make all the attacking players with that traits ? maybe we will play like Harlem Globetrotters. Vision and Creativity will be crucial for this. Can be a great niche for a new save

I had one in FM20 when it came up in the other game I was watching (can't remember who it was) that it was 1-1 FT when I was in the match screen. So I hit Continue thinking I had got promotion, when it came out of the match and into the home screen it gave one of the teams in the other game a goal in 90+6 that didn't show when I was in the game. I was raging.

In FM2021 and others, I found watching the games in Classic 2D fixed all the stupid 3D animation related behaviours that constantly caused goal scoring opportunities for the other team against me. Like I'd be pulling my hair out because the guy couldn't just turn around and run back, or miss his interception due to funky animation transition. 2D Classic fixed all of that (I mean it's always been the superior way, let's be honest). I wonder if FM22 is any better in that regard. I assume not... based on these clips.

Just a small sidenote to the "40 yard header" clip: It's fantastic and amazing, but nowhere near 40 yards... The penalty area is 16,5 meters from goalline to the straight parallel line, so that header is maybe 22-24 meters... 40 yards would be almost at the halfway line... Still an amazing goal ;)

Didn't manage to record it as I was trying not to cry but lost a penalty shootout as Peterborough United to reach the final of the carabao cup. Burnley striker shot straight at my keeper, he pushed it away, it hit the post and my keeper ran over to the ball and accidentally kicked it in. Haven't had the nerve to turn my laptop back on since.

I had one time, 4 goals refused in the 1st half because of the same player. The same player scored 5 goals during the next game after I slammed the refs in the medias.

Zealand you need to check out rupel boom in 3rd league of Belgium. It's an amateur club wanting to go to fullpro and the culture is buying Spanish league players. Which makes it super hard

Hey Z, hope you get to read this since I didn't find anyhthing on this topic. The question is: when and how do players become wonderkids? I started at a new club, scouted, acquired young talent. Some really good ones but no wonders. Now that those young guns have been with me for about two years, I found that two of them are now labelled as wonderkids but they definitely haven't before. Man city signed Haland during the summer between my first and second season with Blackpool. I'm now in season 6 and I've just given up against them. I can beat 18 teams in the league on a good day, but I'm lucky to get a shot on target against city and I'm safely a Europa league team now

The fact that I use my username as my manager name leads to some funny headlines as well as when reporters brand our style of play as Loserball. You almost feel guilty laughing at some of these knowing the pain the managers went through when they occurred.

1:17 This has happened to me in reverse. I was playing as Pas Giannena in the Greek Super League. I was winning against Olympiakos and they scored a last minute goal for the draw. My only chance to win the League was Panathinaikos(who I was the manager 5 years before, I left them after I won 3 Champions League titles with them and made them into a well established team) to lose against Apollon. I think we had the same points but Panathinaikos destroyed me in one of the head to head games so they were above me. After Olympikos scored, I saw red card for Apollon and penalty scored for Panathinaikos. Disappointed I left the game against Olympiakos without end game speech. It turns out Apollon scored two goals in 92th and 95th minute! Against all the odds, Pas Giannena became Greek Super League champion 2033-34! This was before the Greek League was divided Champions and relegation groups. Panathinaikos had lost the Champions League final to an Italian team while Apollon was just safe from relegation. I can only imagine if that happened in real life, a manager leaving the stadium like that and hearing in the radio that he won the League 😂🤣😂🤣

Not got a screenshot, but FM07 I needed to win against Mansfield and Blackpool to drop points against runaway winners Birmingham to get automatic promotion to the Championship. 3-0 to Birmingham at half time in the other game. I scored in the 68th minute. Missed another 3 sitters as Birmingham proceeded to hammer Blackpool 9-0. 2 minutes of injury time in my game. 91:58 Mansfield make it 1-1. Classic Grimsby.

I had given injection to VVD for champions league final, we take it to extra time and i he proceeds to pull up in the 120+1 minute and Messi races through on goal for PSG and Allison gives away a penalty, he then saves it but i lose on penalties 6-5. PAIN
