I have always believed that Football Manager has fantastic meme potential. The Zealand subreddit has become the place to unlock that potential. I honestly did not know what Reddit was for the longest time, but it has become a place where the community can grow around shared experience in a way I don’t think any other platform can achieve. It is a pleasure to parachute in from the heavens to provide my takes on your memes and struggles from time to time.
We make a lot of guides and tutorials, and to be fair that sort of thing is discussed on the subreddit as well, but it is fun to do something a little different that can give the whole Football Manager community a laugh. The meme economy is at an all-time high in the FM community to begin with, so whatever part we can play in that, in making people laugh, I want to continue to be a part of. Long live the memes, long live the Zealand subreddit, long live getting FM’d. Not actually, but it is funny!

7:06 Re: Striker / Defenders. Back in the day these sort of players were relatively common - Ian Marshall, Chris Sutton, Dion Dublin, Paul Warhurst (later a Defender -> Striker -> Midfielder) and lots of others I forget. Usually in the case of Defenders -> Strikers, they were asked to play up front to act as a temporary makeshift target man but then displayed a nack of scoring (Warhurst, Marshall) while in the case of Strikers -> Defenders they were asked to play in defence as their height helped and then demonstrated a certain nack there too. Most of them changed position while lower league coming up the leagues.

Yeah, not even that unusual today. I have seen teams play their center-backs as strikers at the end of games SO MANY TIMES (Swedish Allsvenskan).

@@albinjohnsson2511 Burak Yılmaz was a winger, and not even during his youth team etc either, he was professional süper lig player in fenerbahçe. Went to Trabzon and emerged most prolific turkish goalscorer ever.

Small national teams/clubs also still have these players. Like former American Samoan player Ramin Ott is a CB/ST and there's one Kazakh player like this in a German Regional league as well

And a lot of times neediness is the key, when there is a lot of injury or players can't play because of yellow and red cards,and they have too much players on other posts,it's also not rare to sub in smebody.

7:10 - my local club's (AFC Rushden & Diamonds) only former professional, Liam Dolman, matches this exactly. About 5'9, 100kg, CB and CF, he's got technical ability but he's more likely to just smash you into orbit.

Or when you're out all day shopping, going to lunch etc. and most of the time you're thinking of FM. While exploring a rack of clothes, standing in line at post office, sitting at a table in a restaurant eating. "Oh, I can't wait till I get home and fire up FM." Then on the way home, peering out the car window, thinking, "It's close now..." as a smile shimmers at you in the reflection. Then you're home, FM is loading, all is good and proper. Your team appears, their names glowing in the afternoon light. The cursor moves toward Continue and becomes frozen. You suddenly realise you don't want to play. Whyyyyyyyyyyy?????

Swedish league Europa League/Champions League squad registration causes every new signing to have a crying fit because you cannot fit all of them into your couple replacement slots. You are forced to either risk them being mad for half of next season or big clubs eating up all the players before you can sign them.

I have like over 300 players on loan, which is the main income at the club. I love having players from all the countries I can, then seeing where they are gonna play.

I find it hard sometimes to do this strategy, especially cus its hard to make clubs agree to playing and non playing fee

@@langletprolet8378 I hardly had any problems with that. Yeah, sometimes the player wont play (I don't use playing fees in the loans), but that's really like less than 10% of the playes. What I do find REALLY hard is getting players to agree to go on loan to an affiliated club. I don't bother anymore because it's like a 99% chance the player is gonna say no.

First time i played FM and had no idea what i was doing, i picked a near bottom league amateur team, thinking i couldn't possibly mess it up. Saw youth trials, and i went for the top pick. Actually managed to get him, and the game occasionally threw reports at me about how people were surprised i had managed to snag him. Still lost half my games though XD

We should have an option of threaten resigning rather than accepting board demands. To many times have they insisted you play a certain way and the only option is continue, then when I resign they be like "can we get you stay if we give you more transfer money?" "No stop demanding I have to use the same tactics."

I think difficulties would be great because I would like to be able to do a career with hamburg in which getting promoted is actually a challenge or one in which my Niort arent dominating every game despite being predicted to finish 17th. I know that there are very difficult saves, but I would l like to pick the team I want when starting a save

Fully agree. I would say just make the game more difficult ie less weight on dynamics but I suspect the average joe will get upset they can’t win with man city. Thus, there should be a hard mode for those of us that actually want a challenge while also wanting to play in a top league

Liverpool is basically on steroids in this year’s save in how they operate. My save with Wrexham as I’m climbing up the pyramid has them with a front line Mane, Salah and Mbape and they came damn near close to Haaland. Like WTF. Yet somehow my team always puts on a strong showing against them, even won a late pre-season game against them. Now if you ask them to try and beat Norwich on the road despite being able to beat teams like Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Fulham on the way to League Cup win as a league 1 team, fatal error.exe for the whole team in terms of functioning as a unit.

Zealand, I hate Maccabi Tel Aviv (I am a Maccabi Haifa fan) but they are absolutely European Group Stage level. They’ve reached the group stage of a European competition in 7 seasons out of the last 11. Then again the group Haifa got this season IRL is much harder than the one shown in 9:08.

Zealand...... Maccabi Tel Aviv are in Europe basically every year and we're in the Conference League knockout round this year after we reached the knockouts of the Europa League last season and took it to Shaktar Donetsk, so... Actually we're shit this season, who am I kidding?
