Today we are taking a look at the new Zeda Dawn, and giving our final review of the Phantom 85
Zeda Dawn V2 $499 ATOR
www.bicycle-engines.com/zeda-...
There are some important things to know about this bike before you buy one, but for the price I think it's a good option once they work out the bugs.
Phantom 85 $269 ATOR
www.bicycle-engines.com/ztmot...
This motor holds the crown for it's low and mid range power as a stock kit.
But it has been a bumpy road. The newer kits on the market will likely have better results than mine, but they run hot and have bad intake ports.

I have had the issue as well with the bolts backing out on the sprocket and rotor. My fix was to use a slightly longer and better quality Allen Bolt from the hardware store, then use red Loctite. You can still get them out with the red Loctite if you have to, you just need to manhandle them a little bit.

Surprisingly enough, my gen 1 phantom with the gen 2 bushing is holding up pretty good, even in this heat we've had the last week or so. And I'm very astonished that I didn't drown out the ignition system yesterday in the rain, had that happen once on my first China doll kit. So far just basic maintenance and an occasional spark plug cleaning, mine is still running strong, built last December. 36 tooth sprocket on an older Schwinn Frontier. Ride safe!

I was thinking about getting one of those phantom cylinders and pistons that they sell separately. I have one of those yd100's with the bigger wrist pins. I couldn't use the motor in it's stock form because apparently the cylinder and bottom end come from two different factories 🤦 I say that because the cylinder didn't line up with the bolt holes, even without the studs in the bottom end 🤷 the wonderful world of buyer misfortune in the motorized bicycle community, lol Good video as always, keep makn em and we'll keep watching ☺️

I am on my third Phantom muffler via Warranty claim. The welds are terrible out of the box. My MS460 piston positions the intake ring pins just slightly wider than the factory piston, so I have not had a ring snag problem yet. The port edges are also horribly finished. I don't recommend running the engine without chamfering the port edges. Otherwise, Mine has been good to me so far. Just had to pull apart the case and clear our a ton of metal shavings before running it, and true my crank.

I went to repack the grease in the rear hub and figured i would put my new rear sprocket on thinking my old one was bent. Ended up bending my new spocket and breaking 2 bolts trying to get the spocket true/strait. Had to salvage the allen bolts from my blown bt100 and my old spocket was fine. The rubber tire crush ring was cut so far off there was a 3 millimeter difference between one side from the other causing my sprocket wobble. I used an old wood plane to level it out and now my wheel is perfect.

i feel your frustration with the phantom exhaust.....my third ride less than 1.5 hours on the motor the silencer separated from the 90 downward elbow. i have(as of today)cut the flange off one of my clone type exhast with expansion chamber fit it with a sleeve to go into the phantom stock exhaust a few inches downstream from the flange connects. trial and error for this "whatcha gunna do? DIY of course". this is my first phantom 85 as theyre very difficult to purchase here in communist Canada. i was curious about the "ting ting" sound from the cylinder, i hear yours has the same sound. my experience with that has been that the piston crown is contacting the top of the jug.....apparently this is a normal occuurance for this engine type? anyway many thank yous for your continued tips and reviews....not gospel which you have indicated on more than one occasion but it has deffinatly helped me to further investigate some of my build speedbumps as well as to sit back and enjoy the ride......take the bike to a place where youre not overtaken by traffic and pedestrians(just always pack some roadside repair items). thank you again sir, well wishes for you and yours. be safe

I just brought a phantom V-3 85 and like you said, " plenty of power to spare ". However it's difficult to start. Two three times pedaling down a hill, just pops a couple of times . Out of breath , pull & check plug it seems flooded. I let it sit, cycle stroke w/plug removed to clear out fuel. Try again. I keep the bike indoors. Starting fluid help's sometimes. I'm afraid to shut it off when it does start.

Yeah I gotta say that what your saying seems to be a 100% about the phantom. Now I don't have one obviously but from what I'm gathering from everyone else talking about their experience with the phantom, it sounds pretty much exactly how your saying too. It's a really shame cause the motor came out with so much promise for the consumer but just seems like the ball was dropped just to rush it out and save money. Which is kinda funny cause at $300 it's pretty expensive for them to cut corners. Of course that's just my opinion but it's seems valid to me. Thanks for posting, was about to message you and see where you been and if you was ok cause seemed like it's been a while since you posted.

I noticed your phantom has the same noisey rattleing sound as mine, is that normal? When i first installed the piston to the connecting rod, there wasn't a lot of wobble, but from side to side there was. seemed a little more than usual. It's still running fine,it just has me a little worried sometimes that something may give out soon. And also I ordered the Zeda Dawn in black, my first pick was the screaming demon, but the dawn went on sale, I'm glad I waited. @LAHover
@LAHover 2 жыл бұрын
For its sale price right now yes, I think it's a good buy for short trips. Unless it's going to be a trail bike I recommend a smaller sprocket, 44 is a bit big for street riding. I'm 210lb and the 36t sprocket rockets me up hills. They do honor warranties well when builders have issues. Run oil rich 25:1-32:1 Rinse out the bottom end with gas before you install the motor, they have allot of junk in the case. Do it safely with a water hose near by. And be carful, this motor has crazy power for a new builder.

I'm a MASSIVE two stroke fan, I say this from experience an owning an riding dozens an dozens of two strokes!. the two main issues with two strokes but more so with smaller displacement two strokes, is one they depend on the best expansion chamber you can get, if you wont maximum performance an proper reliability!, An two which I think is the most important of air cooled small displacement two strokes is, they DO NOT!! like being held at a high rpm for long periods of time! (now just before you anger type an cry BS yelling at me that, there's 300-600cc 2stroke street bikes from the 70s! lol, remember I said small displacement two strokes), leaving it in the top end of the rpm range for longer than usual time can an will chew up the plug scorch the piston an warp the rings after prolong use, its way better to get up to your top speed or top rpm range then after 10 seconds or so, let of the throttle so the bike can coast an then back on the throttle, an work your way back up to the top rpm range again an repeat!. This is also the best way to ride smaller cc two stroke dirt bikes with prolonged power bands, you wouldn't take a chainsaw turn it on an pin the throttle for 2-3minutes straight right!. You would work your way up an down the top end of the chainsaws rpm range as your cutting. I hope this helped anyone an if you do lock a two stroke up let it cool down, throw some liquid wrench in the cylinder an start it back up, but you will need at a minimum more than likely new rings, but the oil in the head trick should get you home or off trail etc, but its a two stroke piston an rings are inexpensive an super easy to install. Cool videos thanks! GOD BLESS YA ALL!! have fun an be safe!.

You'd think a Horizontal Dropout would be more or less standard issue on any engine-ready frame, but nope, CDH's frame has the standard Bicycle dropout, making it necessary to modify the dropout if you wanted to use axle-mounted Chain Tensioners, ala most Motorcycles, eliminating the need for something hanging off the Frame/Engine, waiting to fail. It seems to me a lot of those types of things would be no-brainers in the design of any of this stuff, like the Triple Tree Forks, another CDH item...no matter what I try to do I can't get rid of the front/back slop in the stem...no up/down to speak of, but nothing I've tried will eliminate that front/back slop, even with the plastic bushing they provide...there's a lot of things about these bikes that require constant attention, but that Phantom Engine, and all it's fallacies? Could be it was intended for a Racing application, requiring the constant replacement of parts? Just a guess on my part...

2 peace cylinder is a lot nicer idea hopefully it helps with cooling and does not overheat the rod or bearing and motor can last longer so I'm just going to wait if I get one of those

I almost bought the Phantom 85 when it first came out, but I decided to follow your videos on it and I'm really glad I did, still love the motor but I'm definitely going to wait and see if they get The Kinks worked out, I have enough things to work on!
