This is the first chapter of the first Zeitgeist movie. They disassemble Christianity like it is an old automobile. This was a transformational segment for many people who were once under the spell of Christendom. I saw this twenty years ago, in 1994. After seeing Zeitgeist, I left the Republican party and Christianity. Since then I have studied ancient history and the world's religions. I had to process the PTSD from the Persian Gulf War, in which I was a Marine. My world knowledge was weak. All I knew about the Abrahamic religions was Christianity, and I was a Christian for twenty years. I had to understand the core issues between Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. I already knew a lot about Buddhism, and liked it. I undertook the practice of yoga, and became a certified instructor of Ashtanga. I learned about the Hindu, Jain, and Sikh religions. I learned about the Zoroastrian religion, and the Bahai Faith. And then I learned about the ancient religions of the Near East and Mediterranean. Here is what I believe I have learned about the Abrahamic religions. Judaism - The Jews borrowed their fables and folk lore from the Egyptians, Sumerians, Akkadians, Hittites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans. The grew up between them and were dominated by several of them over the millennia. The Northern Kingdom was decimated by the Assyrians and the northern "ten tribes" were hauled off and never heard from again. The Temple of Solomon was later destroyed by Babylon, and the Jews of the Southern Kingdom hauled off to Babylon for 70 years. King Cyrus of the Persians, a Zoroastrian, set them free after defeating the Babylonians, and let them rebuild the second temple. The Jews then rewrote much of their back story so they could have a valid claim to their land. The wrote the story of how God gave it to Abraham. They borrowed themes from Hindu, Buddhist, and Zoroastrian religions. The learned to write from the Greeks, and adopted Greek language. They retooled their stories, changed their names, and blended it in with their oral traditions. They later fought against the Greeks and then the Romans, though many of the Jews submitted to both. Christianity. Christianity is a Sun God religion. They anthropomorphized the sun to be God's son, and made Jesus a God. Whether or not Jesus actually existed as a human is questionable. There were many cults in the Roman Empire, and the term Christ was used in other religions as the "anointed one" or the "enlightened one". The Romans were adept at blending religions to fabricate new Gods to please the populace from either side. The Messianic Jews fought bitterly against the Greeks and the Romans. They believed a messiah would come and lead them to victory and their own kingdom. The Romans were tired of fighting the Jews, as they were wide spread in Rome. They summoned General Vespasian, who had "erased" the Druid people and culture, and ordered him to do the same with Israel. Messianic Jews were said by Nero to have started the fire in Rome. Nero died, and Vespasian was made Emperor. His son General Titus destroyed Israel with Roman armies. They took the treasure and the Torah from the Jews' temple, and used it to write the Gospels. They promulgated them across the empire. They told the story of Jesus, the Jewish messiah who came and taught the people that the priests of the temple were corrupt, and the law of Moses was obsolete. Jesus taught men to obey Caesar and to be pacifist. He taught men to be faithful in their station in life and their reward would come in the eternal kingdom, the afterlife. This became the explanation for why the Romans decimated Judah and razed the temple, killing millions of Jews and wiping their nation off the face of the earth, taking possession the Levant. After a couple of hundred years of this, they fabricated the formal religion of Christianity and made it the state religion of Rome, a religion they could control. They erased anything that competed with Christianity, and forced it on the masses at the edge of the sword. They canonized the Bible and moved the capital of Rome to Constantinople. Eventually the empire split along the lines of language, Greek vs Latin. The religion split with it, birthing the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire, both of which lasted for a thousand years. Islam. There was a prophet named Mani who claimed to be a prophet of Jesus, the last prophet, and the seal of the prophets. He blended Zoroastrian and Christianity and was popular in Rome, Persia, India, and China. He had a large following. The Romans squashed this religion (Manichaeism) when they created Christianity as their state religion. At the same time, Persia adopted Zoroastrianism as their official religion and Manichaeism declined. A few hundred years later, Muhammad came and they wrote the Koran. They believed that the Jews had corrupted their religion, and then the Romans had corrupted Christianity. They believed that Islam was God's true religion and the religion of Abraham. They gave Muhammad the monikers of The Last Prophet and The Seal of the Prophets. They used Manichaeism as material for Islam and kept the stories of the Jews and Jesus, many of which were destroyed by Rome.

Well, I find it fascinating and some of the points are astounding. I must have been living under a theological rock but that's what an Irish Catholic upbringing and schooling will do for you. And yet, it is simply naive to think that something so grand as the Spirit could be constrained, reduced and restricted to a single 'cultus.' Here, Science can inform us about how the progression of knowledge moves towards Truth and not away from it. In this way, interfaith dialogue is confirming the Spirit's saturation in the World's cults.

I've always thought that religion should enhance lifw without controlling it. Trying to live your life around the tenets of any religion is not only stiffling, but impractical. It can bring comfort, but when it controls, people tend to suffer, usually other people who are not a part of that religion. Religion is a choice and the choices of others should always be respected because it is THEIR life they are loving, not that of the religious person i.e. Lve and let live. At least that's how I think of religion.

Since Zeitgeist and the internet, all sorts of things have happened. Bush lied us into Iraq to go after Saddam Hussein. We spent trillions bombing the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush nearly bankrupt America. Then Obama came and reset everything. We recovered. Then Donald J. Trump, the biggest douche bag to walk and talk, got his hooks into the Christian right, promising them judges who would outlaw abortion. Trump bankrupts everything he touches, and nearly bankrupt America again. Thank God for Biden, calm and collected, allowing the constitution and our democracy to once again clean up a mess made by Republicans.

@WWZenaDo

So many religions are strongly focused on being the 'one, true religion', & the Abrahamic religions are especially bad about having that mentality. Therefore, they are deeply afraid to look at the real, so-called "pagan" origins of their religions; they're afraid to see & understand that their religions have evolved in response to certain pressures common to all of primitive humanity, & they're afraid to look at the primitive, superstitious mentalities behind much of the bizarre edicts in religious holy books, & again I'm especially looking at the Abrahamic religions. Since the three Abrahamic religions control such a significant number of the world's population, those fears exert a great deal of influence & pressure upon the scholars of the world, & upon the general populace who contribute vast financial resources as a result of their ignorance of the realities behind so many religions.

When you look at the rise of humankind, you realize it's a long story. They had to figure out how to make tools, how to harness fire. They learned to use language to communicate. They learned to farm, and domesticated crops and animals. As cultures began to grow, people had to explain the forces of nature, which they could not explain. They gave them names and made them gods. They created stories which explained their behavior and interaction with the other gods. They made up stories about life and death, and bigger concepts. The charted the sun and the moon. They discovered the clock of the ages, the solstices, and equinoxes, and made up stories about them to pass on the knowledge. These became religions and continued to evolve.

There's an astronomical problem with the "Southern Cross" part around @ 8:36 - the Southern Cross is visible from lower latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, but that occurs in May/June, apparently around the SUMMER solstice, not the winter solstice...

Thank you. Although I am not personally responsible for that particular element, this issue is addressed in the Sourcebook, which I wrote and which you can obtain here: freethoughtnation.com/zeitgeist-sourcebook-part-1-the-greatest-story-ever-told/ In brief: It has been claimed that the Southern Cross is not visible from the northern hemisphere and that, therefore, the Egyptians, for one, could not have included it in their myths. In the first place, the fact is that the Southern Cross is indeed visible in the current era from anywhere south of 27° N, which includes a large portion of Egypt, such as some of the most important sites like Abu Simbel (21° N), Luxor (25° N) and Aswan (24° N), as well as some of the most ancient sites like Nabta Playa (22° N), where, again, there is an ancient observatory at least 6,000 years old. Secondly, at the time when the gospel story purportedly took place, the Southern Cross was visible just south of 32° N, as related by astronomer Dr. Chris Dolan: "The Southern Cross is only visible from sites farther south than 27 degrees north latitude. At the time of Christ, however, it was visible from the latitude of Jerusalem (almost 32 degrees N)." As we can see, if the baby Jesus had really and truly been born in Judea, to the south would have appeared in the sky the figure of the Southern Cross.

***** The Southern Crux is visible during the Winter Solstice. Try watching the video "Astrotheology: Fact or Fiction?" Pause the video at 56:33 You can see the Southern Crux right in the middle of the horizon just above the word "South" on the planisphere. Note the planisphere is dialed in at 6am Dec. 21st The Winter Solstice. Note that to the right of the the Crux is the constellation Vela. Vela is the ship of Jason and the Argonauts , thus, Vela represents the Golden Fleece or the Lamb that dies on the Southern Crux. For additional support on this theory, try looking at image #39 from the Lost Book of Nostradamus where you have the lambs next to the cross. Also, not that the Crux is part of the constellation Centaurus which is the one of the 4 horsemen and Leo is riding Centaurs as described in the video "Astrothelogy: Fact or Fiction? " Also, note the bird and the birdbath in image #39 Corvus is the bird and Crater is the birdbath. By looking at image #39 you see all the astronomy Leo, Crux, Vela, Corvus and Crater. Note Leo is bit hard to see in the top of the planisphere at about the 1:00 position.

Jesus is born in a mythological way on dec. 25th since it's then Jesus is reborn. It happens every year. You could say the Gnostics who rewrote the Osiris/Dionysus myth to conform to a follow up on the judean theology made jesus and thus born when he was first written/told about. For the gnostics it's obvious that the stories are just to get peoples foot in as they were performed as a theater. Once you're in you need to advance the 7 heavens to get the devine understanding (to become one with god). Pretty much it worked like Scientology today. The new testament has basic and intermediate texts, but there are nobody alive today that can tell you what they really mean besides the front story. We could thank the Roman empire for killing the real message, but then again, it's more like competition killed it. The Christian branched. One with a clear board and strict hierarchy and one where everyone gets to be priest every once and a while and you celebrate diversity. Diversity means fragmentation and you have several small gnostic branches and still one politically controlled branch. Do you really think the largest religions today are large because they are right or because they managed to keep their members in sync with leadership? If the religion they probably have sold ally your souls million times over to get there and they are probably the best description of evil. Follow the money and power and you'll find evil.

Now people will just dismiss me as a butthurt Christian: But I've found a hell of a lot of flaws, I only just started listing them towards the end of the video. And I haven't looked into the astronomical things. But the whole Horus vs Jesus vs Dinoynus vs Whateva thing has been debunked several times. Jesus' crucifixion is the one thing that religious and non-religious scholars and researchers can agree happened. I forgot a lot of the other shit before I typed this, but looking at the dark ages? Please do some research of the causes of this. The Crusades? They're a bad thing? After 400 years of countries such as Iraq, Egypt and Spain being taken over by Islamic Caliphates a retaliation is a bad thing? Please look into it people, have a look from both perspectives. Take everything with a grain of salt, if you still think they're a bad thing after looking at the history so be it. Same goes for the inquisition, over 430 years they killed 5000 people. Thats fucking tiny in comparison to anything today. It was much more fair and judicial system that that of those ages and people would love to be trialed by the inquistion in those days. Edit: Also the Justin Martyr quotes inside the video: It takes the quote and the following text out of context. The whole thing so far can be summarized by this quote: "If you explain something to a person who doesn't truly understand it and then draw for them the conclusions, they're inclined to believe you in the absence of an opposing argument." I hope when I get to the next part its not going to be as bad. Inb4 people just type butthurt Christian instead of actually trying to have some non-biased research into the above points.

There are plenty of highly respected scholars who support Acharya's work. Scholars who've actually studied Acharya's work tend to be supportive: "I find it undeniable that many of the epic heroes and ancient patriarchs and matriarchs of the Old Testament were personified stars, planets, and constellations." "I find myself in full agreement with Acharya S/D.M. Murdock" - Dr. Robert Price, Biblical Scholar with two Ph.D's, review of Acharya's "Christ in Egypt" Earl Doherty defers to Acharya for the subject of astrotheology: "A heavenly location for the actions of the savior gods, including the death of Christ, would also have been influenced by most religions' ultimate derivation from astrotheology, as in the worship of the sun and moon. For this dimension of more remote Christian roots, see the books of Acharya S" - Earl Doherty, Jesus: Neither God Nor Man, (2009) page 153 "Your scholarship is relentless! ...the research conducted by D.M. Murdock concerning the myth of Jesus Christ is certainly both valuable and worthy of consideration." - Dr. Ken Feder, Professor of Archaeology "...In recent months or over the last year or so I have interviewed Frank Zindler and Richard Carrier and David Fitzgerald and Robert Price all on the issue of mythicism ... when I spoke to these people I asked for their expertise collectively and what I got, especially from Fitzgerald and Robert Price, was that we should be speaking to tonights guest D.M. Murdock,author of 'Did Moses Exist? The Myth of the Israelite Lawgiver'." - Aron Ra, The Ra Men podcast EP10 - Did Moses Exist? with D.M. Murdock "I've known people with triple Ph.D's who haven't come close to the scholarship in Who Was Jesus?" - Pastor David Bruce, M.Div "...I have found her scholarship, research, knowledge of the original languages, and creative linkages to be breathtaking and highly stimulating." - Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham, Pastor "I can recommend your work whole-heartedly!" - Dr. Robert Eisenman "This book is a slightly revised version of my doctoral dissertation entitled “Solar Worship in the Biblical World” which was submitted to the Graduate School of Yale University in the Spring of 1989. As may be judged from the title of that work, I had at one time planned to cover more territory than sun worship in ancient Israel, but found the material pertaining to ancient Israel so vast that I never got beyond it." - Rev. Dr. J. Glen Taylor, "Yahweh and the Sun: Biblical and Archaeological Evidence for Sun Worship in Ancient Israel" (1993) "At Stonehenge in England and Carnac in France, in Egypt and Yucatan, across the whole face of the earth are found mysterious ruins of ancient monuments, monuments with astronomical significance. These relics of other times are as accessible as the American Midwest and as remote as the jungles of Guatemala. Some of them were built according to celestial alignments; others were actually precision astronomical observatories ... Careful observation of the celestial rhythms was compellingly important to early peoples, and their expertise, in some respects, was not equaled in Europe until three thousand years later." - Dr. Edwin Krupp, Astronomer and Director at Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles ; )
