So, in the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Swords GDC trailer an orchestrated version of Zelda's Lullaby was played backwards. So, I found an orchestrated version version of Zelda's Lullaby and played it backwards to see if it really matched up to the trailer.
My answer is: yes

A week ago at Anime Central, I asked the guy in the booth selling ocarinas (STL Ocarina) if he could play Zelda's Lullaby backwards and he did without much hesitation. Someone standing next to me was like, "hey that sounds like Ballad of the Goddess from Skyward Sword :)

Without a doubt. Skyward Sword's theme is Zelda's Lullaby backwards. For a while there I wasn't sure whether or not it was a fake.

@AxelaFireFoxx I was just about to say what you said. One thing, though, the Link in Phantom Hourglass is the Link from Wind Waker, and the Link in the Legend of Zelda shows up a few seasons later in the Legend of Link, so there is more than one occasion where the same Link stars in two games.

Makes sense (sorta) how the Goddess theme play backwards put Zelda to sleep. She is connected to Hylia after all.

@Zelda7145 It's backwards, of course it doesn't sound the same. But as a musician I can tell that it is the same melody, just backwards... I learned Zelda's lullaby on guitar, then I played it backwards and it is skyward sword =]

It's because, while the melodies of backwards SS theme and zelda's lullaby are the same, the chord progressions and key signatures are different.

@SonicSpriter14 SPOILER WARNING Actually, It could be a prequel AND a sequel. We don't know how many thousands of years passed between zelda going to sleep and waking up in SS. Twilight princess and many other events could have taken place inbetween the sleeping and awakening.

@ShibbyDaisy Actually, it can be proven. The Japanese have released an artbook, I believe, that contains the canon timeline of the series. Someone translated it to include the sidenotes or whatever.
